Tess's Point of View
The bus ride was long and boring, and uneventful. As we pulled up to the bus stop in Telluride, Colorado, I grabbed my bag, pulled out a map of the local area, and began studying it. My mother had a spell placed on the map to show me where to go, and it looked like I would need to hike through the woods for a while.
I felt the bus stop moving, and the driver announced we had reached our destination. I stood up and exited the bus.
I walked away from the bus station and followed the map to a small park and onto a pathway. As I walked further into the woods, I veered off the path and deeper into the woods.
As the sun started to set, I climbed up a tree and ate some of the protein bars my mom left me. I couldn't risk rogues or anyone finding me out here alone.
I tied myself to the tree just in case I hit rem sleep and closed my eyes. I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and to my stomach growling. I was so hungry. I grabbed another protein bar, and I heard my wolf whisper, "I want real food."
My wolf hardly spoke to me, but she was there. Her name is Lucinda, and I freaked out the first time she spoke to me. That was the day I found out who my dad was and that I was half wolf. Needless to say, I was shocked and angry.
As I walked through the woods, the map showed I was about an hour away from the pack. My mom had told me to wait at the border and ask for my father.
I walked for another hour, and as I got closer, my wolf started to bounce around. This was the first time I had ever seen her so active before.
'You okay, Luc?'
'Just hurry,' She said.
I looked on the map, and I was about five feet away from entering the pack lands. I stood there for a moment and yelled, "My name is Tess Greenfield, and I have come to speak to Dallas Ward. It is a private matter and urgent."
I stood there for several moments when a man walked out from behind a tree. His eyes were yellow, and he had a beige-colored hair. He smelled like Cinnamon french toast, which was my favorite with a hint of berries.
'Mate,' my wolf said, and I felt her trying to push forward.
The man in front of me walked closer to me, and I heard him inhale my scent. "This is private property."
"I know, but I need to speak to gamma Dallas."
"Why?" He asked.
"It is a personal matter."
"I need more than that, sweetheart," He whispered.
I looked at him and said, "This is personal business."
He lightly growled, and then I watched as his eyes glazed over and then return to normal.
"My alpha is on the way."
"What of Dallas?" I asked.
Just then, my mate growled and said in a harsh tone, "He is a gamma, and you will address him by his rank."
I looked away and then looked back at him. "When can I see him?"
Just then, a large black wolf walked up with another black wolf not as large. I watched as they both went behind a tree, and when they walked out from the trees, I gasped.
My father looked just like the photo I had of him and my mom. I wanted to run up to him and hug him, but he has no clue who I am.
The two men walked up to me, and the one said, "I am alpha Richard, and this is my Beta Ben." He pointed to my mate. "And my Gamma Dallas."
"My name is Tess, and I need to speak to Gamma Dallas in private."
"Why?" My father asked.
"It is a personal matter."
"What you have to say to me in private can be said here." He said with a stern voice.
"I took my backpack off and pulled my folder out. Then, I grabbed the envelope my mother had left for him and handed it to him.
"Perhaps this will change your mind."
He opened the letter, and when he was done, he looked at me with shock and disbelief. "You need to go," He said.
"I need your help."
"I don't care. You are not welcome here," He said as he dropped the letter and walked away. The Alpha grabbed it and quickly read it as tears formed in my eyes.
I looked at my mate, and he shrugged his shoulders, and I walked away. My father did not want me, and my mate did not care. So I was alone in the world, and I had no clue what to do.
I was several feet away when I heard the Alpha run up behind me and tell me to stop. I looked at him as a tear escaped.
"Is this true?" He asked me.
"What do you want to know?" I asked.
"That you are his daughter?"
"My mother told me he was my father. Unless a DNA test is done, then it is my mother's word over his."
"And where is your mother."
"Dead, just like the rest of my kind." And I began to cry.
The Alpha hugged me, causing Ben to growl.
"What is your problem, man?" He asked as he hugged me tighter.
"Nothing," My mate said, and I heard him walk away.
I pulled back and said, "Thank you. I should get going."
"And where do you plan on going?" He asked me.
"I am not sure, but hopefully, I can start a good life and avoid the hunters."
"How about this. We get a DNA test done, and you can stay as my guest until the test is done."
"Really?" I asked.
"Yes. Come with me."
