Chapter 9 Unknown “Did you see him?” I asked. “I felt his presence as soon as he came onto the territory, but did you see him?” “Yes,” the minion replied. “He arrived as dragon with the sycophant, Clayton. He is at the castle now.” “Excellent,” I said. “Keep an eye on him and when he is alone, approach and speak to him.” “Yes, master,” he said. “What should I tell him?” “Tell him you knew his parents,” I said. “That will get him interested. But don’t offer to show him what you know just yet, build his curiosity over a day or two then lure him away. Bring him to me.” “Yes, master,” he said. “I’ll make contact tomorrow. He should be performing the forest task. I will speak to him them.” It has been years since I lost my pet, she ran off with my one heir. She became my pet after I lost my true mate and I was unkind, angry, and cruel from the loss. My pet eased some of the bitterness inside me and satisfied my desires. I may have been, what some have called, abusive and cruel. But she was my pet. She promised to be mine. Then she ran off with some low life minion; claiming they were mates, but she was already pregnant with my heir. My child. My son. Now it seems he has returned to our homeland. I wondered if he knew who he was, what was inside him. Elias “Baby, I miss you so much,” Ginny whispered through our link. It had been so hard not hug her or kiss before we went our separate ways at dinner. “I just want you to hold me.” “I know, angel,” I sighed. “I miss you too. We’ll get through this.” “But we can barely go a day,” she whined and I felt the lustful feelings she had coming strong through the bond. “I need you, Elias.” “I need you too Ginny, “ I replied. “We can do this, and then as soon as we step off this land with Gran’s blessing, I’m burying myself as deep as I can inside you on the plane ride home.” “Oh please,” she moaned. “I wish you could do it now.” “That’s not helping,” I chuckled. “Did anyone tell you what we are doing tomorrow?” she asked. “No, do you know?” I asked. “No,” she sighed and was silent for a few long seconds. “I didn’t like some of the things Aunt Mary told me.” “Like what?” I asked. “Apparently Gran is very superstitious about red eyed dragons and thinks they’re a bad omen,” she said. “And her difficulty with her memory is making all her old superstitions worse.” “Does she not know about me?” I asked. “Or you for that matter?” “Gran’s never seen us change,” she said. “She came to Elle and Everett’s wedding, but she didn’t stay for the reception or the flight. She went back to her room.” “Yeah, but everyone else knows,” I said. “Argus, Mary, Clem, Clayton. They all know, why didn’t anyone tell her?” “Because she’d probably have refused to do the blessing rite,” she said. “Well what the hell is going to happen when she finds out?” I asked. “Why didn’t anyone tell us this?” “Maybe mom forgot?” she asked. “I was going to call her, but I wanted to check on you first.” “Ginny, you know she’s going to want to see our dragons at some point,” I said. “What are we going to do?” “That’s what I’m gonna ask mom,” she sighed. I felt my phone buzzing on the bed beside me and I checked it quickly. I saw Everett’s goof ball face come up and I sighed. I told Ginny I was going talk to him so she can call her mom then clicked on. Everett was stuffing his face with steak and chugging a beer. He smiled like an i***t at me. “What’s up boyo?” he asked. “How’s Blood Fire?” “Dude,” I said and closed my eyes. “You have no idea.” “Yeah it’s a bit different there,” he chuckled. “I hated going for visits as a kid. Too many rules and restrictions.” “That’s not even the worst of it,” I groaned. “First of all, Gran didn’t want to do the blessing in the first place because at Blood Fire, women don’t get married until they’re twenty-one. She only agreed because she knew we allowed it at Black Wing. Then Ginny just told me that your Gran has a superstition about red eyed dragons being bad omens! And nobody has told her that I nor Ginny have red eyes!” “What?” he said and c****d an eyebrow. “What are you talking about? I never heard Gran talk about red eyed dragons. How are they bad?” “I don’t know, you’d have to ask Ginny,” I sighed. “I’m screwed dude, she’ll never give us her blessing now. She’s probably going to make Argus and Clayton roast me for turning her granddaughter into a red eyed dragon.” “You know Argus and Clayton wouldn’t do that,” he said. “Well, maybe, they do follow rules an awful lot.” “Not helping Everett,” I growled. “Sorry,” he said. “Have you talked to mom yet?” “Ginny is calling her now,” I sighed. “Maybe we should just come home. I don’t want to cause any family drama.” “Every family’s got drama,” he said. “And our family is full of it, its not just you.” “Is that Eli?” I heard Elle’s voice then saw her face appear over Everett shoulder and she smiled. “Hey stranger How’s the warriors treating you?” “They’re going to be roasting me before the weeks over,” I grumbled and her eyes widened. “Gran thinks red eyed dragons are a bad omen or something. She’ll never give her blessing when she finds out Elle. What do we do?” “Call mom?” She said and I groaned. “Already thought of that huh?” “Yeah,” I said. “Can you come? All you need to do is talk to her and she’ll give us her blessing.” “I don’t think I can do that,” she said. “It wears off after awhile, as we learned during Everett’s bachelor party when you two idiots decided to have a damn fire fight in the forest.” “Hey Brenton and Minnie put anti burning spells on the forests, we didn’t burn any thing,” Everett spoke up. “Everett you had no eyebrows for our wedding,” she said. “Your sister had to draw them on so you wouldn’t look ridiculous in the pictures!” “She did a good job though,” I added and Elle groaned loudly before slapping her hand over her face. “Not the point!” She shouted. “The point is the persuasion wears off and I’d hate for her to rescind the blessing. Besides we’re still in Italy.” “Damn,” I groaned and flopped back on my bed. “I thought this was going to be easy. I thought Ginny was over exaggerating as she does, you know her. But it’s even worse!” “Maybe you can talk to Argus before you have to reveal your dragon?” Elle suggested. “Or Clayton. Maybe they can help?” “I guess,” I groaned. “Ginnys right, traditions suck.” “I’m sorry mate,” Everett said. “I wish I could be there to help or have your back.” “You’re too busy eating steak and drinking Italian beer,” I laughed. “Drink one for me. Or six.” “We love you Eli,” Elle called out and blew me a kiss. Everett eyes flashed to his dragons for a split second which made me laugh again. “Oh Goddess! It’s been two and a half years!” “Sorry, kitten” he said but shot me the bird behind her back. “Saw that,” she said with a smirk and winked at me. “Camera shows you right there, babe. Anyway, love you Eli, tell Gin we love her too and tell everyone else I said hi!” “Love you guys too,” I said. “Bring me back a tiny Eiffel Tower or something.” “That’s France,” Elle sighed. “We’ll bring you a mini tower of Pisa.” “Cool,” I said. “Later!” We hung up and I laid back down on my bed. I didn’t want to bother Ginny in case she was still talking to mom. I thought about who I could talk to about this problem when a knock came to my door. I opened it to see Clayton standing there carrying clothes in his arms. “Hey,” I said. “Heya,” he said. “Argus wanted me to bring these to you for tomorrow and explain what your task will be.” “Task?” I said.
