He held his arms wide. “Look at me. Do I look sick?” Calvin thrust out a hand, shooing off the idea as if it were the craziest question he’d ever heard. She recognized that gesture from his classroom when a student gave an incorrect answer. Others would squirm until he called on another victim. She would not be treated like that. Steeling herself, she asked, “Then what is it?” “I have a…situation.” April hugged her arms across her midsection.
