Chapter 7

Everleigh I stood frozen in place, my heart pounding with a mix of fear and anticipation. Isaac's gaze locked onto me, his eyes searching mine for a moment before he spoke. "What's your name?" His voice carried a hint of both authority and curiosity. "Everleigh," I managed to say, my voice trembling. Isaac studied me for a moment, his face unreadable, his silence amplifying my anxiety. I couldn't help but wonder what he saw when he looked at me, what he was looking for in his choice. After what felt like an eternity, Isaac's expression softened ever so slightly. "And how old are you?" I took a deep breath, my voice steadier this time. "I'm twenty," I replied. Isaac's gaze lingered on me for a moment longer as if he wasn't sure about me. Good, maybe he thinks I'm ugly, I thought to myself. Isaac reached out and touched my face, making me flinch. "Cute. I've never had a redhead before." Isaac's touch sent a shiver down my spine, a mixture of discomfort and disgust coursing through me. I resisted the urge to recoil, keeping myself composed despite the fear that threatened to consume me. His words hung in the air, his comment about my hair color making my stomach churn. I kept my gaze fixed on the ground, unable to meet his eyes. "Well, Everleigh, it seems you've caught my interest," he finally spoke, his voice filled with a mix of arrogance and entitlement. I fought the urge to let despair overtake me, my heart sinking further. I had hoped for a different outcome and prayed silently that I would be overlooked. So much for that pipe dream. "I will take this one," Isaac declared. Isaac's declaration sent a jolt of panic through my already trembling body. His decision quickly extinguished the glimmer of hope I had clung to. I felt a surge of anger rising inside me, but I suppressed it, knowing that any resistance could lead to more problems for me. "Now, wait a minute!" I heard his brother protest in the background. Isaac turned his attention to his brother, his expression hardening. "What's the problem, Aleks? I made my choice." Aleks grinned. "But she is just my type. I was going to pick her." Oh, great. This was the first time I wished other people thought I was ugly and plain. Isaac grabbed my hand, his jaw clenching as he shot a glare at his brother. "You said I could pick first, Aleks. And I pick her." "But you didn't even look at the rest of the girls yet. What about the one with black hair and big breasts?" Aleks suggested. Isaac glanced at the girl in question but turned his attention back to me. "No, I want this one." Isaac's insistence on choosing me over the other girls wasn't exactly thrilling or flattering to me. The thought of being subjected to this was terrifying. Isaac's grip tightened around my hand. "Do I need to fight you on our birthdays, brother?" Aleks chuckled. "Of course not. How about I make a suggestion?" Isaac looked at Aleks. "What's that?" "Why don't we both have her?" Aleks said, keeping his eyes locked on mine. My heart sank even further at Aleks' suggestion. The realization that I had become a bargaining chip in their twisted game made me sick to my core. Rage boiled inside me, but I didn't utter a word. Isaac's grip on my hand tightened, his possessiveness becoming suffocating. I could sense the tension between the brothers, their desire to assert dominance over each other clouding their judgment. "Both of us?" Isaac responded sharply. "You want me to share her with you?" Aleks raised an eyebrow, a wicked smile playing on his lips. "Yes. Why not? This isn't the first time we will share a toy." A toy, that's all I was to them. My body burned with rage and disgust. "No," I finally spoke, my voice trembling but filled with defiance. "I am not a toy to be shared between the two of you." Isaac's face contorted with a mix of anger and surprise. "Oh, she speaks!" I lifted my chin, meeting his gaze with unwavering determination. "I...I'd rather die than let you both ruin me." For a moment, a flicker of something flashed across Isaac's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a cold, hardened expression. Aleks laughed, the sound echoing with malicious amusement. "Well, well, looks like we have a feisty one here. How entertaining." The brothers exchanged a glance, a silent conversation passing between them. I could feel the weight of their deliberation, the power struggle that hung in the balance. Finally, Isaac released his grip on my hand, his voice dripping with menace. "Alright, I made my decision, Aleks. I am willing to share her with you." My heart sank. I realized that my fate was sealed now. I felt trapped, powerless to escape the clutches of these cruel individuals. Tears welled up in my eyes, a mix of anger, fear, and resignation consuming me. I had hoped for a glimmer of humanity, a shred of decency that would save me from this fate. But now, all hope seemed lost. "Excellent," Aleks remarked. "I get to have the first taste," Isaac announced before Aleks got too excited. Aleks waved his hands in dismissal. "Alright, whatever. Since you selected her first, you can have her first, too. I will be a good brother." The words pierced through me like a knife, each syllable cutting deeper into my wounded soul. The callousness and indifference with which they spoke about me as if I were an object, a mere item, made bile rise in my throat. I was nothing more than a plaything in their twisted game. I wanted to scream, to fight back, but I knew it would only lead to more pain. My spirit felt crushed, and my confidence deteriorated with each passing moment. Aleks looked at Rod. "We made our decision, so we are leaving with the redhead now. You can send the rest of the girls back to their room." As Aleks's words echoed in the room, a wave of despair washed over me. I watched helplessly as the other girls, my companions in this nightmare, were dismissed and sent away. "I don't want to leave her with them! Let me go!" the fifteen year old girl protested as Stacy took her hand to lead her away. My heart ached for the young girl's plea. I wished I could do something to protect her, to shield her from the horrors that awaited. But I, too, was trapped in this grim reality. Stacy's expression softened, her eyes filled with sympathy for the first time. "Let her be, child. Be glad they didn't pick you," she whispered. "It's okay, sweetheart. I will be okay," I tried to comfort her despite my situation. Tears streamed down the girl's face. "They will hurt you." I walked over to her, disregarding the presence of Aleks and Isaac for a moment, and gently took the young girl's trembling hands in mine. "Listen to me," I said, my voice steady yet filled with compassion. "All that mattered is you are still safe." The girl looked at me, her eyes filled with fear. "Yeah, for now. But they will sell me to someone else." It was true. She was not safe, far from it. "What's your name?" "Fiona," she said. "Fiona, I wish I could protect you, but I can't," I said with a shaky voice. "I want to go with you," Fiona said, grabbing my hand. "Please, don't leave me here!" "How touching. You two could be sisters," Aleks said with a hint of mockery in his voice. "But enough with this drama. We need to hit the road." He paused and looked at Fiona. "Fiona, is it?" Fiona nodded. "If you would rather go with Red over here, you are more than welcome to come with us," Aleks said while eyeing me. My heart pounded in my chest. On one hand, I wanted nothing more than to protect Fiona and keep an eye on her. On the other hand, going with them could mean the possibility of Fiona becoming their prey too. Fiona wrapped her arms around me. "I want to come with her." Rod cleared his throat. "We were told to give up two girls for you anyway." Isaac looked at us both irritably. "Whatever, just get in the car. I don't have all day."
