Chapter 9 Confrontation

822 Words
POV: Sapphire Despite everything that has happened today the world hasn't stopped. I still have work. Since it's Friday I'm working tonight at the bar. I started out as a waitress there. Now that I've turned 18, Levi the owner of the bar says I can be trained as a bartender which will give me a raise in pay. Compared to the cafe and the bar I can earn more in one night. However, I only work at the bar two nights a week. Sometimes Levi will let me perform during karaoke nights. The bar has karaoke night every Saturday. I will make a little extra doing that. He's even let me perform some of my own songs. I don't want to be some music star or anything like that. This is just a hobby. It's my outlet, you know. I don't want to ever end up in the life of a celebrity. Anyway, during my free time today, I've been getting some things done around the apartment, like cleaning, laundry, and meal prep. I look at the time to see it's almost time to leave for work so I get ready. I change into a pair of jeans and a solid pink T-shirt. I put on my sneakers and tie up my hair. For the cafe I'm not required to wear a uniform but for the bar I am. I have to wear a pair of jeans with a T-shirt with the bar's logo on it which is just a photo of a car in flames. The bar is called The Drunk Grease Monkey. Levi is a retired mechanic. I'm about to grab my helmet to leave when someone knocks on my door. Who could that be? I open the door to see who it is to find it's the last person I'd ever expect it to be. Mia. "What do you want?" I ask in a not-so-nice manner. Mia scoffs at me. "Can I come in?" She asks. I narrow my eyes at her trying to figure out what she's up to. Against my better judgment, I let her into my apartment. She enters and I shut the door. Whatever is about to happen shouldn't be done in the hallway. "Mia, what do you want? Why are you here? I have to get to work." I tell her. "I know that. Is it true? Did you do that to the locker room?" Mia asks. "I guess Josh told you. Then you should know you and I are no longer friends." I tell her. "But why? Did you even stop to think that maybe just maybe Josh and I are in love and he didn't know how to break it off with you? My parents were called into the school today and had to see those photos. How could you let everyone at school see me like that?" Mia argues. "Don't you dare turn this on me! I could have forgiven it had he broken up with me first! You've been the one going behind my back! You're the one who slept with him! Did you stop to think how I would feel? Don't make this out where I'm the bad guy. It's over Mia." I let it all out. "After everything? After I stuck by you this whole time you're going to just toss me aside? It was one mistake and you're just throwing away our friendship?" Mia argues. "You threw it away a long time ago. When was the last time we did something I wanted to do? It's always about you. News flash Mia, you're not the only one in the world who matters." I argue back. "You b***h! There is no getting through to you is there? You're always so stubborn. You know Josh told me how you went out whoring around last night. What a slut. Keep it up, Sapphire. You'll end up a drug addict just like your mother. You'll be dead soon anyway and no one will care because who would ever want or care about a worthless orphan? No one wants you. Josh was only with you to get in your pants." I freeze at Mia's words. What Mia just said hit me hard. I can't believe she just said that to me. "Get out! Get out!" I scream pointing at the door. "Me? get out? Yeah, that's just like you to toss everyone away. I'm not surprised, Orphans deserve to be alone anyway." Mia slaps me across the face before leaving my apartment. How can she act like this is all my fault? I never asked for any of this. I swallow my tears and emotions down not having time to face them. I grab my bag making sure I have my bar shirt packed inside for later. Then I grab my skateboard and helmet leaving for work. This is my life. I don't get to be a kid, I never have.
