Chapter 2: Meeting Him Again

1034 Words
❤ Liv's POV ❤ I sat at the same table I was at where Aaron found me the last time. I read a book as I waited, but couldn't really concentrate. I kept looking up, expecting Aaron to walk up. After more than 30 minutes, I got hungry and tired of waiting. I didn't get any food or drinks earlier, so I decided to get up and get a sandwich and some water. I wanted to get one of those fancy iced coffee drinks, but it was too expensive for me, so I settled for water. When I returned to the table, I gasped when I saw Aaron sitting there. He smiled when he saw me and said "Hi, Liv." Liv: "Uhm, hi." Aaron: "I brought some snacks from a coffee shop near the hospital." I looked at the sandwich and bottled water in my hand, and at the paper bag of food that Aaron put on the table. I could already tell that he got it from somewhere expensive. Liv: "Uhm, you didn't have to. I'm not very hungry." Aaron: "Well, I am. Take a seat and eat with me." Liv: "O-okay." I decided to put the sandwich in my bag to eat later. I didn't want to put it next to the food that Aaron brought with him. He took the food items out of the paper bag one by one. He took out a big box that contained different kinds of pastries. There are also coffee drinks, as well as fruit juices in a bottle. Liv: "You brought too much food." Aaron: "It's fine. We can take the rest home and eat them later." Liv: "O-okay." Aaron handed me a croissant and took one for himself. I didn't start eating until he did. He then asked me to pick any drink I wanted. I took one of the bottled coffees and thanked him before I took a sip. As I ate, Aaron asked how my mom was, and inquired more about her condition. When he found out that my mom was also waiting for a kidney, he sighed and said "Yeah, that's tough. The list of people waiting for an organ donation is really long." Liv: "You want to know a secret?" Aaron: "Sure. Lay it on me." Liv: "I'm turning 18 in a month, and I plan to donate one of my kidneys to my mom when I do." Aaron looked stunned when he heard what I said. Aaron: "Are you serious?" Liv: "Yeah. I'm healthy, and we have the same blood type, so I'm sure I'm a match." Aaron: "There's a lot of risks that come with live donation. You're still young. Have you thought this through?" Liv: "Yes, I have. She's my mom and I'm ready to do anything for her. She's been waiting for a kidney for years, and the dialysis is starting to take a toll on her. I just want her to be healthy again." Aaron put one of his hands on top of mine. I felt goosebumps and stopped breathing for a bit. Aaron: "That's very noble of you. Your mom is very lucky to have you as a daughter." Liv: "Thank you. She's a great mom. She deserves a normal life." Aaron smiled and nodded, and handed me another pastry. Aaron: "Have a cream puff. This is one of my favorite pastries." I smiled and said "Thanks!" before taking the cream puff. It tasted as good as it looked. We ate less than what was on the box, and there were two bottled drinks left when we stopped eating. Aaron put them back on the bag and handed them to me. Aaron: "Take it. Have your mom try some of the pastries. She'll be hungry after her treatment." Liv: "Thank you." There was some silence before I got the courage to ask "So, what do you do in the hospital? Are you a doctor or something?" Aaron froze for a bit before his phone pinged. He looked at it and said "I have to go. I'll see you again in two days. Same time." Liv: "O-okay." Aaron: "Bye, Liv." I waved goodbye and looked at Aaron as he walked out of the cafeteria. He looked back a few times and smiled at me as he did. I couldn't help but smile back. My heart was still beating fast as Aaron left the cafeteria. When he held my hand earlier, I thought I was having a heart attack with how fast my heart was beating. I had to put my hand on top of my chest to calm my heart down. As I walked back to the treatment area, I couldn't stop smiling as I thought about Aaron. I've had crushes before, but what I feel towards Aaron is not just a mere crush. Aside from being gorgeous, he's such a nice, down-to-earth man too. I wish I could know more about him in the next few days. When I got to where my mom was, she was already awake. She was watching television when I arrived, and she smiled when she saw me. Lydia: "You look happy. What's up?" Liv: "I met a friend." Lydia: "Really? Is this a guy friend?" I smiled and nodded. I handed a cream puff to my mom and a fruit juice. My mom still had about half an hour left before her treatment is done for the day, so I headed out of the room and waited outside. My mom made me promise to tell her about my new friend when we got home, and I agreed. As I waited for my mom outside the treatment room, I kept thinking about Aaron. My mind kept imagining him as a doctor, wearing a white coat, with a stethoscope on his neck. He looks really handsome. Aaron looks too young to be a doctor, so it is possible that he might have another job at the hospital. Could he be a nurse, a medical technologist, or some kind of therapist? It could also be possible that he has a sick relative at the hospital whom he visits. I really need to find out the next time I see him.
