Chapter 4: Turning Eighteen

1087 Words
❤ Liv's POV ❤ SINCE then, Aaron regularly picked me up from work at the restaurant. It wasn't every day, but it was usually the days that we didn't get to see each other at the hospital. So, essentially, we see each other every day. I've told my mom all about Aaron, and she's been wanting to meet him for the longest time. Since my 18th birthday is coming up, I decided to prepare some food at home and have Aaron come over to eat with us. This way, I could get to celebrate my birthday with the two best people in my life. My birthday fell on a Sunday, which is fortunate, because I didn't have to work, and my mom didn't have to go in for treatment that day. When Aaron dropped me off at home that day, I didn't get out of the car right away. He must have noticed that I wanted to say something. He turned to look at me and said "Is everything okay?" Liv: "Uhm, it's my birthday this Sunday, and I wanted to invite you this Sunday to come to our house." Aaron's face livened up when he heard what I said. Aaron: "Oh yeah, you're turning 18, right?" Liv: "Yeah. What do you say?" Aaron: "Of course, I'll be there." Liv: "Really? Thank you! My mom is looking forward to meeting you too." Aaron: "Does your mom know about me?" Liv: "Yeah. I had to tell her where the pastries were coming from. That's okay, right?" Aaron: "Yeah, of course. What did you tell me about who I was?" Liv: "Uhm, I told her you're a friend." Aaron: "Friends, huh?" Liv: "Well, what are we?" Aaron: "Well, I was hoping I was more than just your friend." I bit my lip as I felt my face blushing. Aaron moved closer to me and touched my face with his hand. He moved closer and when his face was only a few inches away from me, I closed my eyes. Within a few seconds, Aaron's lips touched mine. It was a sweet kiss, and my heart beat faster as our lips kept touching. I opened my eyes when the kiss was done and smiled when I saw Aaron's handsome face. He was still touching my face. Aaron: "You're so beautiful." I could only smile at the compliment. I wanted to tell Aaron how he's the most handsome man I've ever met, and I can't believe that he would want to be more than friends with someone like me. ---------------------------------------------- I was on cloud nine the entire night after the kiss. I even dreamt of Aaron. I can't remember what the dream was about, but I remember that Aaron was there. The next day, I went to the grocery store to buy the things I needed to cook spaghetti and chicken pork adobo. I bought half a kilo of spaghetti, which should be more than enough for me, my mom, and Aaron. I decided to cook the adobo in case Aaron wanted a rice meal. I woke up early on Sunday to prepare and cook. Aaron is supposed to arrive around noon and I'm very excited. My mom wanted to help me cook, but I told her to just rest and relax. I was done cooking with more than enough time to spare, so I got ready. I took a bath and changed into a dress. I braided my long hair, and put some powder on my face, and some tint on my lips. I don't usually put makeup or anything else on my face, but it's my 18th birthday. I am allowed to make myself pretty today. When my mom saw me, she smiled and said "You're very pretty," before sobbing. I walked toward her and asked "Mom, what's wrong? Don't cry. It's a happy day. I'm turning 18 today." Lydia: "That's what I'm crying about. You deserve more than this. My father and I have always dreamt of giving you the best of everything. I'm sorry, Olivia." My mom was the only one who could get away with calling me Olivia. I didn't mind it, and it always sounded so good when she called me by my full name. I sat next to my mom and put a hand on her shoulder before saying "You've given me everything I needed. I love you, Mom." I hugged my mom and she sobbed some more until my phone pinged. She then wiped the tears off her eyes and said "That must be your boyfriend." I chuckled and said, "Mom, he's not my boyfriend." Lydia: "Not yet, at least. I can't wait to meet him." I was still chuckling as I looked at my phone, and true enough, it was Aaron. He sent me a text letting me know that he was parked where he usually drops me off. I had to go fetch him since he did not know where our house was. When I found him, he was leaning on his car holding a bouquet of roses. I smiled as he walked up to me and said "Happy birthday, Liv," before handing me the flowers. I sniffed them before saying "T-thank you." That was the first time anyone had given me flowers, and it was awesome. I asked Aaron to move his car further from the street before we walked toward our house. He got a few more things from his car before he followed me. We had to pass by a few other houses before we got to ours. I felt conscious as I realized how unfortunate our community looks. There are a lot of people outside their houses, loitering outside, because their houses are too small, and there's just not enough space for them inside. The community is quite dirty too, with stray cats and dogs everywhere. I suddenly regretted inviting Aaron here. Aaron looked like he didn't belong here, with his smooth skin and expensive clothing. He looks too well-off to be walking in our community. I moved closer to him and said "I'm sorry." Aaron: "Why?" Liv: "For bringing you here." Aaron: "There's nothing to be sorry about. I'm glad you invited me to your birthday, and I'm excited about meeting your mom." I smiled at Aaron. He really is amazing. He then moved closer to me and whispered "By the way, you look really beautiful." I smiled again before bowing my head to hide my blushing face. This is going to be an amazing birthday.
