"Nico and Jax." Danna motioned to the two huge figures standing in my doorway, with their backs to me. "Your bodyguards."
I frowned. I was expecting it but this quick? Never. Zayden was a man of his word, I bet the doubled security was in place too. Call that man paranoid or what but something about his gestures spoke volumes. All of this, just to protect me. Suddenly the man in the black suit didn't hurt my sight and my frown eased.
"He really does love you," Danna admitted as she replaced the empty water jug on the side table, with a filled one. Her words caught me off guard and I simply smiled at her. Love was an unfamiliar word to me. Elio was my first boyfriend but even with him, it wasn't quite love and I was aware of it. It would have been foolish to consider that love since I hadn't even turned 18 then. I used to ask the Moon Goddess for a soul mate, someone I would experience love with, but it remained just that - a wish. My heart was too bitter for love and I doubted if things would ever lead towards love with Zayden.
"Oh and by the way, he's waiting for you downstairs." She added. Any remnants of sleep vanished from my eyes. He was doing what? and why? I cleared my throat and immediately got ready. This wasn't normal, he would usually leave before I would even wake up. Many thoughts kept in my mind as I took a shower before making my way downstairs.
The moment, I opened the door the two men straightened up. "Woah, at ease. It's just me." I raised my hand. They both glanced at me and then continued to stare into an abyss across them. Honestly speaking, I found it quite creepy. I was never a careful person ever in my life and the biggest example of it was my affair with Elio. Rebellion played an important role in my life and nothing was different now.
"Which one of you is Nico?" I asked. The one on my right with pale skin and ginger hair nodded, "That would be me, Miss Dawson."
"That makes you Jax," I said c*****g my head to the left. Jax gave a curt nod. He was tan and had black hair that was shaved by the end of his head, weirdly.
"How long will you two be here?" I asked as I began to walk towards the stairs, both of them trailing behind. Their footsteps were as quiet as a cat and despite their enormous figures, much like Zayden's, they were swift in their movements. Well, my fiance did select the best to be my bodyguards.
"We aren't sure about that." He replied in a monotone voice. Of course, they were not. The men asked no questions and only answered mine. We turned another corner, nearing the stairs.
"Tell me about yourselves," I asked taking them both off guard. There was silence for a while before Nico continued. "We are both among the top ten warriors of this pack. Our specialities comprise of hand-to-hand combat, tracking, attacking and defending." By the time, he was finished we had reached the stairs.
I turned around to through them a look. They were bulky but this was a little too much. He really did choose among the bests to protect me. I didn't know if to be impressed or freaked out by Zayden's over-protectiveness. Although, an idea did pop into my head.
I did need their protection for now but somehow, I would have to be able to defend myself too. They really were an opportunity to take advantage of especially, since I had always wanted to learn hand-to-hand combat. It would be a great way to gain stealth in my wolf form. I was a noob at fighting and defending. With a weak wolf, it was even harder. A shiver went down my spine at the thought of how I was at the mercy of those two rogue wolves as they tried to hunt me down. It was high time that I upskilled myself.
"Well, I had always wanted to learn hand-to-hand combat!" I squealed with excitement. "Can you guys teach me?"
Their faces went pale and my smile flickered. It wasn't as if I had asked them to resign from their posts or to fight me off. They would have to show me the moves and help me practice- why did they look like they had seen a ghost?
"One of you can be on guard while the other teaches me. I don't think it would be a problem." I shrugged, putting my hands on my hips. "So what do you say?" I urged them but their heads bowed down as if I was talking to a wall and not them.
Bodyguards were supposed to be uptight but not that uptight. These guys were overacting if you asked me. I was simply offering them some time off duty in return for teaching me hand-to-hand combat yet there they were, acting like I had asked them about how they lost their virginities. Well, I guess not all brutes were always confident around people or maybe it was the doing of another brute, my brute to be specific.
"I bet Zayden told you both to not speak-" I said, grunting out loud. "I am so done with him," I murmured lowly, turning around to continue down the stairs. It was only then did I realize, I had f****d up. I wasn't completely turned around when my eyes landed on him, on the greatest brute to ever exist. He was only a stairs or two down and the next thing I knew, I had lost my balance falling right onto him.
A mere second later, his hands were there encapturing me. Strong arms wrapped around mine, as I collided into a granite-like structure - his chest with a muffled noise. My ankle was the first thing to respond with sharp pain, ripping through it. I had probably strained it. Cursing internally, I closed my eyes waiting for it to dissipate. That was until my senses started to respond too.
Wait- where was I? What was this warm, huge and hard structure holding me? My eyes opened to find the ghost that had made Nico and Jax's faces pale. Zayden Castillo was looking down at me with narrowed eyes.
