His arms were gripping me steadily against his front. His body had clearly tensed up as if anticipating something bad was to come. People switched their places from the ones, waiting patiently at the side as another song began to play.
I moved out of his hold and began to walk away. I looked back at him to find him staring at me, probably contemplating what was important enough, and if not that, then certainly contemplating my tone. Our eyes met as I continued to take slow steps away. He held onto mine, narrowing them ever so slowly but never looking away, and moments later, he began to walk towards me.
I hurriedly made my way out of the ballroom, once more not looking back. I knew he was following me out, and nothing, not even the huge crowd until the exit, could stop him from finding me. I continued to push through the people, awaiting their turns to dance. They were eager enough to make way for me to pass just so that they could continue to watch the second round of dancing. Some of them I recognized as reputable leaders, but I managed to escape in time from them with only a dismissing smile. Zayden and I, both have spent enough time with them, and now I needed my man all to myself. He has got some serious questions to answer.
Earlier, when I was returning to my room after meeting with CM Samara, I had done a quick survey of the Hold. It had an extensive library with dual floors and, like usual, it was empty. People were then busy getting ready for the ball, and except for a servant or two cleaning the place up, there was no one else in sight there when I had checked. It was the perfect place to get some privacy. Gardens and lawns were typically the places guests would sneak off to during the ball, but that would be if it was any typical ball. The Loup-Garou ball and leaders trying to sneak off were two unrelated things. So, the garden was off my list, and now I was heading to the great library.
The corridor had a few servants lingering around but not enough to block off Zayden's echoing footsteps. He was several feet behind me, and I could feel him nearing, so I sped up. At this speed, it took me barely 5 minutes to make it to the library. As expected, there was no one to guard the door. Somehow, that made me even more comfortable that the place was probably empty. I pushed open the doors and rushed inside, feeling him nearing. He hadn't called out for me or said anything in the past few minutes that he had been following me. It was as if he knew I wanted him to quietly follow, and he was doing so.
The library had vintage stuff in it, dating back to the 19's. It wasn't as old as the Hold and appeared renovated, though its beauty stood raving. On the ground floor were located numerous bookshelves at the back, and the front provided a view of numerous reading tables spread out over the huge area. The upper floor could be seen from the ground, and its brown furniture looked reflected off the moonlight cascading through the large windows. The lights were switched off, signalling that the place was closed. I wasn't in the slightest bit bothered with it since the moonlight spilling through the glass was illuminating the entire place, beautifully. The lights turned off only made the place more attractive. My eyes searched the floor in search of stairs which could lead me upstairs. I ran inside as my eyes scoured the floor in search of the stairs. I came to a stop when my eyes landed on a spiral staircase, leading to the upper floor. Just as I was about to rush to it, the sound of the library doors closing boomed through the air. It sounded as if they had been closed violently and with strong force.
It was Zayden. He was inside and had closed the door, trapping me in here with him. Well, technically, it was him who was stuck with me in here while I confronted him, but it felt as if I was the one stuck. Maybe this was the result of my impending punishment, but he wouldn't do it in here. Would he?
Inhaling deeply, I put a hold on my extremely distracting train of thought and began to ascend the stairs. When I took the first step on the upper floor, my breath got knocked out. The gleaming rays were creating a shine unlike any I had seen before. The dark interior looked majestic, and the moon could be seen through the window, and it wasn't a full moon yet the light was bright enough. I walked in deeper through the bookshelves. I had ascended to the back side of the floor, and as breathtaking as it was in the back, I wondered how it would look from the front. I could feel his daunting presence closing in as Zayden's footsteps echoed loudly in the quiet place. He was searching on the ground floor, and it would take him some time to move up. I took that as an opportunity to scour the floor by myself before he caught up to me.
The place somewhat reminded me of the Castillo Estate. The interior resembled the Estate a lot except it was a lot more positive here with just the two of us and no sign of Esther around. That woman had a bad vibe in herself. My footsteps were slow and steady, making less noise than that of Zayden. He wasn't trying to conceal it either and was walking on the ground as if he owned every bit of it and wasn't afraid of anyone hearing him coming; instead, the other person should be scared of him. Something about his footsteps was dominating enough in itself.
"Where are you, Red?" Came his voice suddenly, making me shudder. He was getting closer, and a thrill went down my spine at the thought of it.
