Ch 60

The Loup-Garou festival represents the beginning of the werewolves, dating back to the day when our first ancestor was made. We were not magically born but created one day, and it was said that the Moon Goddess sent her daughter, a beautiful werewolf, as the mate for the first werewolf, and from there onwards, our lineage began. The day had always been regarded as important for two reasons: one being the creation of the first werewolf, and the second being the day when he found his mate in the Goddess' daughter. The day is preceded and followed by two days of celebration in mid-November and is known as the Loup-Garou festival. Although it was celebrated throughout the world in every pack, their leaders would have to leave for Senenia Island for the celebrations. An annual meeting among all the packs, along with the festival, would be held on the mentioned Island and arranged by the council. All of the leaders in the world would have to participate if they wanted to keep the goodwill and peace among the packs well-established, and it was also a great time for handling disputes and encouraging strong relations with certain packs. Normally, certain packs would include the strong ones, and the Night Walkers pack was one of them. While the Lunar pack was also a strong one, we came nowhere near Zayden's pack, and it made me even more nervous about representing both the pack in the festival. Growing up, I saw Mom and Dad leave for the celebrations, so we would always plan our family celebration together a week before, but I had been missing out for the past 5 years, and this once when I was finally back for everything, I had upgraded responsibilities. Though, I would be lying if I said that I wasn't intrigued and had been expecting to go one day instead of my parents. Now, that the day had finally come, I was a nervous wreck with no idea how I was going to manage it. I was initially supposed to go with Zayden as his mate and not the Luna or any leader yet. It would have been fine, and he would have managed everything, but now it was entirely different. Mom had forwarded me the documents stating the points that needed to be discussed in the meeting and the people I needed to interact with, who would prove to be beneficial allies for our pack. The document was more of an instructive manual to guide me through each step, and I couldn't be more thankful for it. I barely got any sleep for the night and spent it mostly memorizing the points and practising speaking in front of every supernatural leader to exist. Though Zayden hadn't returned by that time either, and I ended up sleeping at last since he had told me not to wait, he would return late. The next morning when I woke up, I found a masculine figure slumped on the couch. With slow and steady steps, I made my way to him. Zayden looked worn out and he was out cold. His shirt was half unbuttoned, his toned chest peeking out. It reminded me of that night in the metal door room. Now that things were better between us, maybe I could ask him about it and why he walked out on me when I could see damn well how much he wanted me. His hair was rustled, and it looked as if he had barely managed to throw his shoes off before slumping on the couch. A part of me suddenly felt bad for making him sleep there. Maybe we can change that after the trip... - I thought. Leaving him, sleeping peacefully, I went to take a shower and get dressed up for the flight. He was still asleep by the time I finished. I was finishing packing when his phone began to ring. My first thought was that he would wake up, and he already had a long night. Leaving everything, I ran to it and grabbed it before turning the volume down. A sigh left me, and I threw a look at Zayden. He shifted a bit but went right back to sleep. I found myself smiling at the sight, and as I proceeded to put the phone down, my eyes landed on the name of the caller. Audrey. My brows furrowed, and I clenched my jaws. Why was she calling him? Didn't everything end between them after our engagement? I shook the thought off and put the phone down. It was probably nothing, and for a moment, I wanted to pick up the call and ask her why she was calling him, but I refrained from it. It wouldn't be something to worry about, or else he would have told me. As distracting and breathtaking as my fiancé looked, I was completely distracted now by the thought of his ex calling him. That woman would have been on my list of good people if she had only remained the designer I got the dress from for the engagement party instead of turning out to be his soon-to-be fiancée. Well, as if that wasn't enough, she thought it was a nice idea to try and steal someone's mate. It surpassed me as to why that engagement was happening in the first place and why Esther was so insistent on it when Zayden was putting that ring on my finger instead of hers. I knew by now that anything related to Esther was bad news, and something told me that Audrey wasn't any better either. What could she possibly be wanting, calling him? I had only begun to come up with possible reasons as to why she was calling when his screen lit up once again. This time it was a text notification. Picking it up, I took a closer look. "I'll be waiting for you, can't wait to see you." The text said. My eyes widened into two huge saucers. Why the f**k would she be waiting to see him? And what was worse, she couldn't wait?! I was sure by the time I finished reading the text, fumes were coming out of my ears and nose, and I could actually be fuming. What was she on about? Was Zayden meeting her behind my back?
