Where is she?

610 Words
Heather's POV  I was impressed that Regina lasted as long as she did before needing a break. However, I was not going to stop moving. I am determined to find Stefanie and nothing is going to stop that. "I can''t express how grateful I am that you are helping us look for my sister." I say to Steven as we continue our search. He stops in his tracks, causing me to stop as well to see if he's okay. He grabs my hand and kisses it. "I know we just met, but I won't stop until we find her. I am an only child, so I can't imagine the pain of missing a sibling. We will find her, no matter how long it takes. I promise."  I am taken away by his kind words. I have no idea how to respond, so I just smile at him and begin walking again. We search high and low, feeling defeated each time she's not in the spot we look. I glance at my watch and realize it's been over an hour since Regina stopped for a break. She should have caught up by now or at least be near by.  Dread starts to creep up on me. Did I really just lose my best friend in the same woods as my sister? My heart begins to beat rapidly and I can't breathe. Great. I'm having a f*****g panic attack. Everything begins to  blur as I feel light headed and feel my legs give out.  I never hit the ground though, because I pair of strong arms catch me.  "Heather! What's going on? Talk to me." He sounds worried as he lowers my body to rest on his legs. Grabbing a bottle of water, he places it to my mouth and I take a big gulp. "Regina should have been here by now." I softly exclaim to him, never breaking eye contact. I'm sure he can see how worried I am for my friend. I feel my eyes burning with unshed tears.  "Let's backtrack and find her first. Okay? then we can look for Stefanie when we are all together again." I nod my head and he gently helps me to my feet. "Thank you."  I find myself enjoying or walk back to where we last left Regina. The more we talk, the more attracted I find myself to this man. I wish he could be mine, but I know I'll never see him again after this trip. "s**t!" His shout startled me and  brought me out of my thoughts. I'm quick to notice what the shout was about. On the ground is a bear with several arrows sticking out of its body.  "No! No! No!" I scream in fear. "REGINA!!!!" I shout as loud as I can, hoping she's nearby. Tear are flowing out and I feel the panic attack starting again. I suppress it though with the adrenaline to find my best friend. She has to be near, right? I wonder to myself.  "Over here!" Steven shouts to me. I rush over to where he's standing. "Look, someone killed the bear. Therefore, someone must have seen and helped Regina. There's small blood drops leaving a trail. We just have to follow it." Well, damn. He has a point. I know for sure that Regina didn't kill the bear, so someone else obviously had been here. I just hope she's okay wherever she is.  Steven holds his hand out and I grab a hold of it, enjoying the way my hand fits perfectly in his. I smile softly at him and he kisses the top of my head. "Let's go find Regina."
