Jacob's POV
Finally! Hearing her beg for her life and scream my name is music to my ears. I've had my fun, so now it's time to be rid of her. I squeeze her throat tight until she's dead. I carry the limp body to the basement and begin my draining process.
While she drains, I relax in my favorite chair in the living room area. Why was this girl looking for Steven? They don't look related, so maybe a girlfriend or something? I doubt it. He seemed to be interested in that Heather chick. Well, whoever she is to him, doesn't matter anymore.
I close my eyes and my mind wonders off to what I just did. Or more like what I couldn't do. I had her right where I wanted, but couldn't bring myself to f**k her. I kept thinking of Regina. Ugh. I groan and rub my face due to this stress. Hopefully some sleep will help me calm down and think rationally about what to do next.
Regina's POV
Heather and I woke up early to begin our search mission. By the look on her face, I don't think she actually slept. "Good morning!" She greets my cheerfully, as she unzips the tent. I greet her back and slowly get to my feet. "Let's go! We don't have all day." She says as she throws clothes at my face. "Okay, okay! Give me two minutes." Heather rolls her eyes and stares at her watch. "Fine. I'm timing you." With that, she walks out of the tent. I quickly change and tie my hair up in a bun.
When I leave the tent, Heather immediately hands me my backpack and begins to lead the way to Steven's cabin. My stomach was rumbling and I couldn't wait to get to his place. That man sure knows how to cook. I wonder if Jake would be there as well. I can't seem to get him off my mind. I really want to apologize for freaking him out and hopefully can continue getting to know each other.
"Good morning, ladies." Steven greets us before we even knock on his door. We both greet him and walk to the kitchen. The aroma is intoxicating and I plop down on a chair and begin to fill my plate up with food. "Regina!" Heather shouts at me, but Steven laughs. "I'm glad you're enjoying the food. It's been awhile since I cooked for anyone other than myself." They both join me and we quickly eat our breakfast.
"Have you seen or heard from Jake since we saw him last?" I ask, and Steven says no. I can't help but feel disappointed.
"Okay, let's go!" Heather exclaims the very second she finishes her food.
Two hours later and still no sign of Stefanie. I want to take a break, but I know Heather will refuse to pause for even a moment. We've been searching in any caves, holes in the ground, and just any place in general that someone may have fallen into or be keeping shelter in.
Another hour passes and I can't hold on any longer. I sit down on a fall tree and yell to Heather and Steven that I will catch up with them. They nod and continue their search. Grabbing a bottle of water from my backpack, I gulp down almost all of it.
If Stefanie really is here in the woods, she would have found a way out by now. Something just doesn't seem right. I don't want to say it out loud, especially to Heather, but I have a bad feeling that Stefanie is dead. I guess the only way to find out though is to find her body. My best friend needs the closure and I want to be there for her.
I have taken a long enough break I guess. When I look ahead, I don't see or hear the two. They must be really far ahead of me. Great. My legs feel like jelly, but I continue anyway. When I see movement behind a tree, I assumed it was either Heather or Steven. Wrong. It was an adorable black cub! It was making a whining sound, so I slowly approached it. I wanted to see if the poor thing was injured. It did look like it was limping a little bit. I wanted to get a closer look, but a loud noise made me freeze in my spot. The quick thumping sound was getting louder and louder. Next thing I know, I'm on the ground with a big bear clawing at my body. s**t. I'm dead.
I close my eyes, waiting for the mama bear to kill me. However, the impact never comes. I slowly open my eyes and see the bear with a few arrows sticking through. The cub is whining even louder as it climbs on the mom. Tears run down my face because of how sad I feel for these animals. Even though it was about to kill me, I feel bad that the baby is alone now without it's mom.
I want to stand up, but I can't move a muscle. Everything hurts. Especially the bite marks. I begin to feel dizzy and blackness engulfs me.
Upon waking up, I'm surprised to see Jake on the edge of the bed I'm in. "How are you feeling?" He asks me, with concern evident in his voice. Am I dreaming? I try to think of what happened and how did I end up here and with him? "You were attacked by a bear." He states as if reading my mind. Suddenly, everything comes rushing back to me. "You-you saved me?" I question. He must have been the one to shoot the bear if he was able to get to me so fast.
He nods his head in response.
"Jake.... thank you and I'm sorry."
He looks at me confused. Damn, this guy really doesn't talk much. "I mean, thank you for saving me. And, sorry for freaking you out last time we saw each other." I'm sure my face is red from embarrassment. I expect him to laugh at me or say anything. What he does instead is approach me slowly, and kisses me! I definitely did not see that coming!!
