Chapter 5

Lena’s POV

A thunderous slap took me to the floor, I glared at Alice and scoffed. “Is that all you got? Starving and hitting me all the time? Do you think you're a goddess or what?'' I lashed at her, still on the floor.

She came closer with a mockery smile on her face. “This is just the beginning, I'll make sure you hate yourself and hate this palace until you give up and run away.”

I stood up from the floor. “Seriously, you want me out of the palace badly. Why not speak to the Alpha about that? He will grant the wish of his Luna.'' I gestured, very sad. “Looks like it's high time you stay away from me and focus on your work in the internal court to avoid being denied that position…stop coming after my peaceful life,'' I remarked and shifted my feet towards the door but she dragged me back.

“Who ordered you to leave? Or you forgot that I'm your mistress huh?'' She stood before me. “I understand that you're still important to Damien, that's why I'll start by disorganizing your life so you'll look useless to him.”

“Do that to yourself, not to me who has been starving for three days.” I threw back at her and made my way out of the room. This time she didn't stop me, and even if she did, I wouldn't give her a f*****g time. She said it and she meant it, that I'll starve and my salary will be deducted or won't be paid at all until the money for her chain completes.

I had thought things would change after the first and second days, but everything was still the same. Alpha Damien stopped the Beta from coming closer to me, and that made it more difficult ...the little I got into my stomach which isn't enough from the maids that have been looking after me.

“Isn't this too hard? Will I even survive this? Even if I was sold to Alpha and can't leave the palace, is that the reason I should die in the palace when that isn't what my cruel uncle wants?” I shoved my hair, feeling hot.

If there's any way for me to leave the palace so easily, I wouldn't hesitate to do that, and I wouldn't want the Beta to fall into trouble again this time because of me. I decided to go into the kitchen and see if there was something I'd see and have a taste of…even if it was a cup of water.

The excruciating pain that struck my lower abdomen the moment I stood up made me lose balance, but I held up immediately and slowly approached the door with my palms placed under my belly. I opened the door and my eyes fell on the maid who had been getting me meals all this while.

“I was about to push the food inside. Are you okay?” she asked and dropped the plate on the floor.

This isn't something I could hide, not when I feel like I'll end up dead after all. “My stomach, it hurts….” I complained and she helped me back into the room. “Go, take the food and go, and call the Beta,” I said to her and she nodded.

She let go of me and grabbed the plate, but looks like she was scared so she ran back again. “Leave me, I'll be fine if you call the……if you call the….”

“Your Highness!!” I heard her voice as I slumped to the floor.

It looked like I was in the midst of life and death, my body was too weak to move and my eyes were struggling to open.

“Your Highness….” she let go of me that moment and vanished from the room.

Now I know the reason Alice has been bittered is because I was still seen as Luna and not a maid. First was the Beta, and now is the maid. I smiled and my eyes shut.

I was woken by the noise in the room, it wasn't just noisy but it looked like a quarrel. I peeped to see Alpha Damien, Alice, and the Beta all standing. But Alpha looked enraged, he was pointing his fingers at Alice, and yelling at her.

Why does he act like he cares when he hates me? Maybe it is still because my uncle had a deal with him, so he doesn't have to fail that beast I call an uncle.

The eyes clocked with the Beta and he came closer, drawing the attention of the others. “You're awake, I can now have a rest of mind,” he said, patting my head.

Alpha came closer while Alice stayed back, he came to the other side of the bed and forced me to look at him. “I wonder why you're so silly…”

“Your Majesty…” Beta mentioned but he threw heavy glares at him, keeping him shut.

“Looks like you still don't know what it means to be a servant in the palace. If you feel hurt, you must report to either me or my Beta—don't you get it?” he screamed at me.

I scoffed. I wanted to tell him a lot but I didn't want to waste my saliva talking to my ex-husband. I wonder how I'll be able to approach him when he doesn't want me, and even stop his Beta from coming closer to me.

“You should be grateful to the moon goddess for not letting you die, or I would have scolded you even in the grave,” he added and hissed.

That was so ridiculous. I just hope he is scared of my disappearance.

He tapped his Beta. “for now, look after her and make sure she's strong. I have a lot of things to organize ...put a call if things get beyond your power.” he ordered and left the ward. Alice glared at me for a while and then left the ward as well, leaving me to stay with just the Beta.

I looked at him. “How is my health?”

“You're okay, and the baby wasn't affected,” he replied.

My eyes narrowed. “Baby? What do you mean?”

“Doctor had told me that you're pregnant and that's why you couldn't stand starving.”

I shut my eyes and licked my lips. “Why should I believe this?”

He smiled and brought out a folded paper from his pocket, then gave it to me. I went through it and finally believed that I was pregnant. But one thing bothered me. “Is Alpha aware of it?”

He shook his head, making me take a heavy breath.

“Please don't tell him, I want him to find out for himself.”

He nodded with a slight smile. “I'll get you something to eat okay.” he patted my head and then left the room.

Why on earth am I pregnant for that monster? I can't let him know about it, he doesn't deserve to father my child after I was abandoned. He will either take the child from me, deny it, or make sure I terminate it ... That's why I must leave.

I pulled out everything that was fixed on my body and climbed down from the bed. This is the only opportunity I have to run away from that palace even though I have nowhere in mind to go–but it's better than being in that hot palace with my baby.

I put on the footwear which I saw beside my bed, then made my way out of the room.
