Running out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her chest, Ivy almost slipped but was lucky to hold the door before she finally hit her head to the ground.
“Oh my god!” she exhaled through her mouth and got up on her feet. Slowly, this time around, she sat down on her bed and rolled her eyes at herself. She began to regret everything, going for the job, getting an apartment and pretending to live a normal life when she could not.
“Hey…Ivy,” someone banged on the door and pulled her away from her thoughts. She glared at the door and wished she could burn the person who was at the opposite side of the door.
“Don’t tell me that you are still sleeping. I need to lock the door,” her voice came again and she jerked up. she remembered the agreement she had with her supposed roommate. The key to the apartment had no spare and her roommate had decided to keep the keys to herself, since she paid more of the rent. Now she was regretting the decision she made already. She was regretting everything in general.
“Ivy…” she banged at the door one more time and she growled. In annoyance, she stood up and stomped towards the door. She pulled it open and came face to face with the girl she had only met once.
“Ahh…. there you are,” she entered the moment she met eyes with Ivy.
“Get out, I need to lock the house and go to work as well.” She added rudely. Ivy balled her hands into a fist and glared at her wishing that she could do something to her, but at that point she was powerless.
“Hmmmm….”
“What’s your name again?” Ivy ran her hands through her wet hair.
“Maddie,” she replied and popped a gum.
“I’m also going to work, just let me finish dressing up,” she forced a smile.
“Five minutes, anything more than that and I would drag you out or lock you in,” she popped another gum and turned away. Ivy rolled her eyes and shut the door, then she walked over to her wardrobe.
“Four minutes,” Maddie's voice roared loudly and she jerked. Realising that she was serious, she quickly began to apply lotion on her skin. Then she went to her wardrobe and quickly picked up a dress and some flats.
“Three minutes,” Maddie rang again and she shut the door with a glare like it was Maddie.
“b***h,” she cursed and picked a perfume. Then she went over to the mirror. She took off what she used to cover her hair and sighed in relief. At least it was no longer wet. Quickly, she ran a brush over it and fixed it up while adjusting it on her hair.
“Two minutes,” her roommate yelled again, making her groan.
She picked her purse and turned to the door. Maddie was standing right beside it and she did not fail to send her a glare before she walked past her and walked out of the room and towards the door. When she checked the time again, it was almost eleven.
“s**t…” she grumbled and ran out of the house.
“Taxi…” she yelled even before she ran into the streets. This was her first ever job, a normal job that she was being paid for and there she was, ruining it before it even started. The street was filled with cars and people going to and fro but there was no taxi even as she peered from a distance. It was unlike it and in such a time when she needed one.
She was still looking for a taxi when her phone rang and she picked it up without realising who was calling.
“Ivy…Ivy…Ivy.” the voice of her uncle came through the other end of the line and the amusement in it irked her.
“I’m guessing that you are still at home,” he guessed right.
“Welcome to the normal world, dear and pray you do not get sacked on your first day,” he added and ended the call. She groaned and looked around her, especially at the rooftops and found him standing at one of them. He waved at her and she glared at him. Instead of waving back, she started towards the road and decided to walk till she found a cab. Her steps became faster when no cab came her way and she thought of a different alternative. But just before she decided to go on with it, she found a cab coming her way. She waved at it just as some people before her were waving at it too.
“No…come on.” She mumbled and started hopping as she waited for it. But it stopped in front of the couple that were before her.
“No…no…no,” Ivy ran towards it and pushed the couples away even before they got in.
“What the hell?” they yelled.
“You look jobless, get another cab and maybe a job,” she shut the door.
“Go…go…. go,” she directed at the driver.
Before the cab came to a halt, Ivy jumped down and ran into the building. It was busy and everyone was already there. The receptionist raised her head from her desktop and turned to her. A disapproving looked appeared on her face as she scrutinised the woman in front of her. She had wished she got her job, she wanted to be close to Damon and had fantasies about impressing him enough just as many other women did, but the clumsy one had to get it.
“Are you just coming in?” she asked, realising that she did not see her come in.
“No,” Ivy responded and started towards the elevator with hurried steps but stopped in her tracks.
“Coffee,” her thoughts whispered and she immediately turned to the direction she came from. She ran out in a dash and ran towards the coffee shop opposite the office. She dashed through the door, gaining attention to herself as everyone turned to her. She ignored them and went over to the canter, then she searched her purse for money and turned to the attendant.
“Coffee, please,” she handed the money over to him. He was a nerdy kid with glasses and a stupid grin on his face.
“Which…?” he took the money from her and for an instance she froze.
“Which one was it again?” She questioned herself and tried recalling what she read. It was right at the top of the list of things to do.
“Hello miss,” the sales boy called to her and she flashed him a glare.
“Can’t you see that I’m thinking?” she snapped and he flinched. He lowered his gaze immediately and moved away from the feisty yet beautiful lady.
Ivy groaned again as she tried to recall what type of coffee she was supposed to send to her boss. So many had been listed down and she had to send each of them in different times, but there she was forgetting it all.
“Well f**k it…” she slammed her hands against the canter and the sales boy lifted his eyes to her.
“I’m ready now,” she smiled at him and he turned red instantly. Shyly, he walked back towards her and lowered his gaze, unable to meet her gaze.
“Give me a latte, black coffee and Americano.” He nodded his head and went ahead to get the coffee she ordered. While she thought of how dark and bitter her boss’s coffee was.
“He definitely needs some kind of sweetness in his life,” she mumbled.
When the coffee was ready, she took the three cups and ran back across the street and through the building. She ran towards the elevator and stared at it. Her hands were filled up and there was no way she could press the button. But just before she started thinking of yet another dilemma, the elevator opened up and there came Charles. He scoffed at the sight of her and walked towards her with scrutinising eyes. It was official, he hated her and wanted her out of here. Ivy saw the way he watched her from head to toe and knew immediately that she had just another problem on her plate.
“What exactly are you doing here?” he questioned and it was her turn to scoff.
“That question is very stupid, don’t you think?” she snapped. Refusing to speak friendly to a man who was definitely not friendly to her. His eyes hardened at her and he bawled his hands into a fist.
“Didn’t she know who he was?” he was the secretary of Damon, common staff could not take him for granted, not to speak of one who was about to get fired.
“How about I fire you right now and here,” he growled and she rolled her eyes.
“You are not Damon Roxwell…now move,” she shrugged him aside and walked into the elevator. Charles turned to her with an evil glint in his eyes.
“I give you a few minutes to get fired,” he smirked and helped her in pressing the button to the top floor.
On her way to the top, she thought of getting fired and how she could not afford to. It was her first day and she had a very important reason to be his pa. She could not just throw it away. She thought of lying, something big, something that would make her gain sympathy from her boss.
“My uncle got into a car accident while I was coming to work,” she thought and grinned at herself.
“Perfect.”
When the elevator beeped and came to halt. She walked through the door and found that everyone was already working and no one bothered to pay attention to her. Lie….
Everyone was actually busy, but as she walked past them towards Damon’s office, many of them took note. Some scoffed at her boldness and others simply wanted to see how she would be thrown away disgracefully. It was known to all who she was, Damon had been raining hell and fire ever since he came to work and realised that his supposed PA was nowhere to be found.
Ivy heard their murmurings, she heard their voices and heard what most had to say. But she chose to play ignorant and walked towards his office with bold steps. She stopped right at his door and thought of how she was supposed to knock on it with her hands filled up when the little murmurings and voices died down.
“Ivy…” the voice of the demon prince sent chills down her spine. Nervously, she turned to the direction of his voice and found that he was just coming out of the conference room. Guards surrounded him and other staff were behind him, while others turned their eyes to him.
“Just great…way to go hybrid,” her thoughts whispered to her. But she forced a smile and walked towards him courageously.
“I’m so sorry sir,” she started her made up story.
“My uncle had an accident earlier and I had to run to him, seeing that it was so serious and he was the only family member I had.” The moment she was close enough, the guards gave way, surprisingly. She cursed inwardly, wishing that they didn’t, she would rather maintain her distance with him. But seeing that she ought to come close, she went closer. The smell of his scent and his hot glare on her burned into her skull and made her even more nervous.
“I should…. I should have called,” she muttered fearfully and stopped right in front of him.
“But I was so…… occupied and…. scared that I forgot…. His injuries were…so serious and….” She raised her eyes to meet his. His dark eyes filled her skin with goosebumps and she lowered her gaze.
“My apologies,” she mumbled.
Silence
Silence
Silence
The room was deadly quiet and not even anyone’s breath could be heard. It was so quiet; a tissue paper could probably be held falling down. Everyone waited for the mighty roar of the lion, everyone thought of how he would skin her alive. But the silence stretched for a long time, so long a time and he said nothing.
Damon glared at the woman before him and simply wanted to yell or growl with how angry he had been. Constantly, he had checked his watch and waited for the blonde woman to walk into his office. But the time stretched into minutes and minutes into hours and she still did not come. He had gotten so angry, his heart felt like it was on fire because he had to handle things last minute by himself. He had concluded on firing her himself. But now that she was in front of him. That familiar face was simply too lovely to chase away. Last night, he had seen Aziza, who was the exact identical of her, only she was dark and with her red hair, she was simply dark while Ivy was the light, the opposite version of her. The same pull he had with the other, was the same he had with her and the words he had planned on saying could not just come out of his mouth.
“I brought you coffee and…” Ivy decided to spoil the deadening silence and stretched the latte she held towards him, but it slipped and it fell, spilling on his shoes. Gasps filled the air instantly, followed by another silence.
Ivy mentally slapped herself and chuckled nervously at the mess she was creating, but turned to Damon all the same.
“My apologies…how about this….” She paused as she stretched her other hands towards him and tried remembering the name of the coffee that she held.
“I can’t remember which it is,” she smiled nervously.
“Sir, there is a problem,” a different voice broke the silence from behind her and she quickly turned around, swinging her hand while the cover of the cup she held flew open and the content spilled over Damon’s suit.
The man who had interrupted them was short and chubby and he was panting with his hands resting on his knees while sweating like he had only just ran a marathon from the last floor. Ignorant about what she did, she stared at him and wondered why he was panting so much and also grateful for interrupting them when he did.
Damon glared at her even more, and immediately grabbed her arm and pulled her to himself ready to fire her.
