Ivy jerked when her body collided against that of her boss. His eyes were icy and they were staring deep into her soul, like they could see the deepest part of her. His brown eyes reminded her of home and the very soil in the forest but it spooked her with the raw power held deep within it. Yet, his overwhelming aura of strength and coldness made her want to inch closer, to close the gap between them and finally have him.
“I like the danger,” her thoughts whispered but it also made her move away, so she struggled to get her hand off him and tried to move away from him but his grip only tightened.
“Give me one reason why I should not fire you right now?” he said within gritted teeth while his eyes glared deep into her soul. She had no reason to not be fired, she had done a lot of wrong in just one day and it was not even up to twenty-four hours. But she had to say something, the man was glaring at her waiting for her to reply and she really had to save herself this time.
She opened her mouth to speak but no words came out of them and she shut them back and lowered her gaze. She found no reason, reasonable enough to save her. Just then, the beeping from the elevator came and eased the tension and silence that came from their boss.
Ivy’s eyes caught the eyes of the grumpy secretary as he walked out from the elevator and a grin appeared on his face. The look of victory and that smug look made her hate the situation that she had found herself. She looked away and turned back to the man that was still holding her by her arm.
“I honestly do not have a reason,” she whispered and his hard glare on her softened like he had been struck with something. Then he released his hold on her arm and ran his hand over his head.
“Get me a different shirt, and a different shoe,” he grumbled and walked past her with the speed of light, like he was scared that if he took a longer time, he would change his mind and fire her after all.
Ivy breathed heavily in relief, not realising that being so close to him had made her hold her breath more than usual. The relief that came from being far away from him was overwhelming and the heavy scent and aura that came from him washed away like a heavy cloud following him. For the first time, she was able to breathe in fresh air and it was better, way better than having him close.
“Ivy…” his cold voice echoed in the office and her heart skipped. She turned to the direction he went through and saw the way his gaze was hard on her.
“Get me a new cloth before the next meeting, or else…” he warned and walked away. Her eyes widened and for the first time since he walked past her, she took in his words and understood them. He had ordered new clothes, that meant only one thing.
“I’m not fired,” she mumbled in disbelief and placed both hands on her chest.
“I’m not fired,” she breathed like she could not believe it. It was truly unbelievable that he took pity on her and still left someone as incompetent as she was to work. It was truly unbelievable, to the human eyes alone.
She smiled and looked around. Eyes were glaring at her, but they were not the eyes of the boss, neither were they friendly eyes. They were eyes of scorn, jealousy, anger and irritation. No one could believe that she actually got away with doing something so terrible just as much as she did not believe it herself. But who was she kidding, she had come prepared and she knew how to play her game more than expected. She smiled and turned to the other staff of the company, then she smirked at them visibly and raised her shoulders even higher, then she turned to the elevator. Not without seeing Charles who was standing close to the door. He openly glared at her like she had committed an atrocity but she smiled at him. she liked the look of disbelief on his face but it was not the time to gloat, not yet.
With her hips swaying more than it should, Ivy walked past Charles and into the elevator to do the bidding of her boss.
Charles turned to the elevator and glared at her as the door shut itself. He still did not believe that she was still working as his boss’s PA when she was supposed to be fired. But he was not the only one who was thinking that way, other staff had wondered how and why she was still not fired even when she had committed too many unforgivable offences in a day.
“Get back to work, you are not here to mop,” Charles growled at the employees who were all gossiping about something and everyone immediately went back to work. He turned to the door of his boss and stared at it. He had questions to ask his boss, he wondered why the man who never had mercy on anyone could tolerate what Ivy had done in just a few hours but he knew he was going to get in trouble for that. He pulled his eyes away from the door and shook his head slightly. This was one of the times he had to remain quiet, just like the many times he had to remain quiet.. He turned away, and decided to head back to his office, but he could not bring himself to do it. So he turned to Damon’s office and walked straight towards it. He knocked on the door twice but no one said a thing. Nervously, he opened the door himself and peered in.
Damon was not on his seat but rather still at the far corner of his office where he watched the street.
“I did not ask you to come in,” Damon voiced out and he chuckled nervously and opened the door widely. Without being asked to, he walked inside and placed his both hands behind his back
“I was just worried,” he began, knowing that Damon would prefer that he went straight to the point.
“About what?”
“The new PA who was supposed to be fired,”
“She is a nuisance and certainly not ready to work.”
“You are being too lenient with her. I can fire her and get someone better for this very position,” he ended and stared at the back of the man he had known for a while.
“Go back to your job Charles. If I wanted her gone, I would have done that myself,” Damon answered and thought about punishing him for intruding like that, but decided against it. His eyes were rather fixed at the ray of sunshine that was working the streets like a confused child. She had no cards or access to his account, there was absolutely no way to buy him a new shirt or shoe yet she was so stupid to not have asked.
“Charles,” he suddenly had an idea.
“Why not get me a new shoe and a shirt?” he requested and the secretary frowned. That was supposed to be the job of the p.a he hired.
“That’s not in my line of duty sir,” he mumbled and Damon frowned. He turned away from who he was staring at and turned to Charles. The secretary lowered his gaze immediately when the hard glare of his boss came on him.
“How about I make sure you have no line of duty at all? Or maybe you would prefer a cut of your salary or suspension,”
“No…I’m sorry, I didn't mean to,” he quivered, hating the thought of being punished so severely especially because of a girl.
“Do what I asked immediately,” Damon turned back to staring at the street and noticed that Ivy was still there, but instead of pacing to and fro, she was waving down a cab.
“What about Ivy?” he asked within gritted teeth. He was hating her even more for giving him an additional workload whereas she was supposed to do it.
“Let her do whatever she wants to do to get me a shirt and a shoe. I want to see how long she remains stupid for and do not tell her a thing,” Damon smirked and turned back to his chair. Then he walked towards it and sat down.
“That’s going to be her punishment for the day.”
Ivy groaned when she got on the cab and thought for a while on what she was supposed to do. She had come to realise that getting a shoe and a shirt for the great Damon would cost a million dollars or more and she was no rich heiress. There was no way she could get such an amount of money to replace what she had spoiled.
“He could have fired me, instead of giving such a punishment,” she mumbled grumpily and cursed at herself for doing too much. There was no way she could get such an amount of money, nor could she buy the kind of cloth and shoe that he wore?
She sighed heavily and opened her purse, at least, she could get him something. After paying the rent of her apartment. She had gone penniless and only had money for foodstuff. Her uncle was of no help, he was more interested in seeing her behave normal and do things the human way.
There was no other way to go about it, than to make use of the money she had and maybe a little from her credit card. Taking out her card from her bag, she thought of the little she could get and decided to go to one of the malls she had never gone to before. It was not like the five star boutiques and stores that rich people go to, neither was it one for a rich man like Damon, but it was good. She could not afford getting something there the last time, but this was for her boss, and she had to sacrifice money for her meals and foodstuff for her foolishness. She had damaged his anyway and who knew how priceless it could cost.
The cab came to a halt and she stared at the mall with pain and reluctance to go inside. It was another devastating moment of her life. She thought of going back to the office and begged Damon for forgiveness but that was below her. Now that she thought about it, she had been doing a lot of demeaning things. Sighing heavily, she made up her mind and walked into the mall. It was different from where she shopped. It was higher and better and so were the people in there. The fanciness of the mall made her want to beat herself up for ruining his shirt again especially with the way it smelt of nothing but money. Regret upon regret, it was getting tiring already.
She looked around, taking in every beautiful cloth or shoe she saw and the people that were in there as well. Everything was beautiful and eye-catching, that she soon got entrapped at the beauty of it and forgot what she was there for. At that point, she did not care, she was angry. Her job was to be a PA and stay by his side always and not….
She froze, remembering the most important task she had, and that was to stay by his side. She hastened her footsteps and stopped looking around. Then she went in search of the particular shirt he wore. It was a white round neck shirt. But as she walked the mall, nothing seemed like the shirt he had worn. It was a simple shirt but all she saw was simply too low in quality. So, she changed her mind and found a black long-sleeved turtle neck and got that instead. Then she picked a pair of shoes and sent them to the cashier. She was unsure of the size, but guessed she had the right size.
“Two thousand dollars, ma’am.” The attendant had said and packed the shirt and shoe like it was a casual thing and her mouth dropped to the ground.
“Two thousand dollars,” she repeated breathlessly and for a second there, thought against getting the clothes. She would starve if she spent that kind of money. But she had to, it was her job and she had to return to it soon.
“Curse you, demon,” she mumbled underneath her breath.
“Ma’am,” the attendant called out to her and pulled her away from her thoughts. She reluctantly handed over her credit card to her and the little cash she had, and watched with her heart racing as they made use of the card.
The attendant smiled and handed over the card back to her, then she packed her goods and gave it to her as well. Ivy groaned at the mere thought of the money she spent and thought of crying. Being normal was harder than expected.
She went back to the office grumpy and angry and towards his office firstly. Eyes turned to her as she walked straight to his office but she did not mind them. She knocked on the door harshly but no reply came, so she just opened the door and stormed in. However, her anger disappeared when the sight of him caught at her heart.
“Are you here to mop?” the voice of Damon’s annoying secretary pulled her eyes away from what she was looking at and she turned to him.
“Are you a wizard or a witch?” she replied and he scoffed.
“You have guts to…”
“Who wants to be sacked first?” Damon growled at the both of them and looked away from his laptop. They both went quiet, deciding that neither of them wanted to and he sighed and turned to Ivy who had been away for a while. She flashed Charles a glare before she turned to Damon.
“I got the cloth and shoes,” she said forcefully and raised the bag in the air, then she flashed him her teeth which was supposed to show that she was smiling, instead it showed a predator about to skin him alive and an ugly one at that. Damon scoffed, believing that she was really stupid and looked down on the new shirt he was putting on. It was not white anymore but a very dark blue and anyone could take notice that it was not what he wore earlier. Ivy followed his gaze and found the different coloured shirt on him as well and she covered her teeth with rage swelling from deep within.
“I got myself a new cloth,” he raised his gaze back to her.
“And it’s better.”
“Burn that and get back to work immediately,” he added and sent his gaze back to the screen of his laptop.
Anger washed all over her at the thought of his ungrateful behaviour and the fact that she would starve that night. No one told her to not buy a shirt or shoe anymore. They had kept her in the dark and made her spend the amount of money she had never spent in her life, yet he ordered that she throw away such good money for him.
“But sir…”
“Trash that and go back to work, Ivy,” Damon interrupted, not once raising his head from the screen.
“That is my hard earned money.” She raised her voice. Something snapped inside of Damon at the sound of her voice. It was more powerful and deathlier like his red hair. He raised his gaze again to meet hers hoping to find red hair but found a blonde and stupid woman before him and it made him so confused. His confusion was followed with anger and his eyes hardened at her while hating the tone she used.
“Drop the bag and leave,” he growled and instantly his migraine hit him.
“Get my drugs,” he directed at Charles and Ivy scoffed….
“Good readings….” She turned to the door and started towards it just as he had ordered.
“And you deserve that…i hope you choke and die,” her thoughts added.
"Or have your brains explode" she grinned at that thought and chuckled foolishly out loud.
But again, she couldn’t wish him that.
