“Yes,” Aziza said quickly, as she tried to cover up her tracks.
“I ate nothing all day. So, when I got back home and ate, I slept off immediately after,” she added. Damon sighed at himself and looked away from her in annoyance. That was not what he wanted to hear, but he still did not understand why he was bent on connecting the both women. Aziza’s eyes were always on him, always and Ivy had no connection to it, he had to accept that.
“Leave,” he said and ran his hand through his hair.
“The meeting,” she responded, stubbornly and he raised his gaze to meet hers. His brown eyes were tired but angry and she took it as a cue to leave.
It did not take a very long time for him to come out of his office. Aziza stood up from her sit and followed behind him as they went for the meeting with the contractors. It was right at the conference room and from the look of things, they were already seated and waiting for him. It was made of simple soundproof transparent glass, whoever was at the both side of the room could see what was going on inside and out. The contractors and people present at the meeting were talking and having little chat before he walked in. It went quiet and still like sudden death just walked into the room. She could not help but to smile at herself and the aura he carried. For a prince who was so clueless and powerless, he was something. His face was in a cold look and everyone who saw it had all the right to feel scared and go quiet. He sat down and she sat at the empty chair that was right beside him.
“Begin,” his cold voice came immediately as he relaxed into his sit. The meeting began immediately after with a lot of talk concerning the projects they had at hand. They talked about finance, and which project would go first and when it would end. The meeting was rather a boring one and the minute they started, Ivy felt the need to yawn. But she held it in and listened attentively as they spoke for a very long time. It was hard understanding what they were saying and the way they spoke about it. It was something she was not used to, she was always used to breaking into a meeting just as this, or a party. She brings the fun out of every boring meeting. Always likes a grand entry at the very late hour and she did know how to make an entry, she just never thought that she would sit in one and do absolutely nothing but listen and write. The meeting stretched for a very long time and all they did was talk and talk and more talk. When there was an argument, it was so light and never noisy and they were back to talking again. Damon said few words, really few words and when he had something to say, it was rather a very short question and they would go back to explaining and talking and more talking.
When Aziza could no longer hold it in, she yawned with her hands covering her mouth. Damon turned his attention to the woman who was sitting at his side and she lowered her gaze. He was supposed to be angry at her, that was the reason he had turned to her, but no, his lips broke into a smile and he turned away instantly. Then he checked his wristwatch and turned back to the man speaking. Aziza dared to not yawn anymore and tried being serious especially after the way he had stared at her. When the last speaker finished talking, they turned back to Damon, as they waited for a question from him again. But he said nothing, instead he stared at his watch and stole a glance at his assistant, then he stood up.
“Let’s end this here for today.” Aziza almost shrieked when he said those words. They were the magic words that she needed to hear and she could not help but to feel happy at those words. She shot up from her sit with a smile on her face and turned to leave when her eyes fell at Damon. He was staring at her and his eyes held humor. She smiled foolishly and looked away from him, then he walked away and she followed behind.
Back to her sit and position in front of his office, she sat down and sighed heavily at herself. Being Ivy was harder than she thought, when she was younger it was less terrible, though horrifying but it was less complicated. She was simple, Ivy, the child of the cursed couple, who could be used, tossed and treated how ever it pleased anyone to. She was naïve and weak. She hated her, she hated Ivy so much but there she was, back to being Ivy. Only, it was more complicated, she had to pretend to smile, she had to lower her gaze when she meets Damon eyes, she had to pretend to like company and simply be a very bright girl where as Aziza was different. The world deserved Aziza.
“Get that done soon,” the voice of Damon broke out from behind her and she jerked from her thought and turned to him.
“I’m off for lunch with the senator and his daughter,” he said and turned to the elevator.
“Wait…” she ran and stood in front of him, blocking his path and making him to come to a halt.
“The lunch, Am I not supposed to go with you?” she questioned and his brows furrowed into a frown.
“You are my assistant, not my handbag,” he said and moved to the right to walk past her, but she moved to the right and blocked him off.
“I’m your assistant, I should follow you everywhere,” she smiled sheepishly, proving to be ignorant and naïve. But she had to follow him to his lunch date, it was the main purpose of going through the torture of being Ivy. It was to always be close to him, so close that no harm would come to him again, she could not be left behind.
“Ivy,” his eyes went hard, and the smile she had on her face disappeared at the look on his face. It was similar to what she had seen the previous night, his eyes just had to go dark on her and the feel of his power would overwhelm her.
“Stay,” he ordered, then his lips broke into a smile, something he rarely did. Then he lifted his hand to her head and patted it, before he walked past her and towards the elevator. Her eyes widened at the outrage and the way he treated her as a puppy. She turned around and watched him walk into the elevator.
“Wait…wait,” she ran towards him but the door closed before she got close and her heart skipped. She was supposed to remain close to him.
She groaned inwardly and stormed to her desk, then she picked her bag and turned to leave the office when she almost bumped into someone.
“Are you not trying too hard?” Charles grinned at her and she glared at him.
“Get out of my way.” she snapped and walked past him.
“Are you trying to seduce Damon?” he followed behind her and she scoffed. That was the last thing she would do, their relationship would never be more than it was. He was simply what she needed and in return she would keep him alive, there was nothing more than that and it was not going to be anything more.
“A lot of us have more important things to do,” she responded and hit the elevator button.
“Do not push his buttons, he might fire you if you do,” Charles said just when the door opened. She walked in and turned back to face him.
“Have you noticed the difference in his attitude when it comes to me,” she grinned at him just to shut him up and the door closed.
She went down to the reception and walked towards the entrance of the building.
“Hey,” a familiar voice yelled from behind. Aziza closed her eyes and took in the scent of the familiar annoying woman, but she did not turn around. She hoped that Sloan would stop calling out to her when she did not respond. But she was a stubborn one and started running towards Ivy. She gritted her teeth at the sound of her heels and increased her walking pace.
“Hey,” Sloan called out panting just when she stood beside her.
“Are you trying to run away from me?” she asked and started walking beside her. Ivy feigned a smile and turned to the woman who was intruding in her space.
“No, no, I would never,”
“I was just going….”
“For lunch?” Sloan added and grinned widely.
“I’m going for lunch as well,” she added and intertwined her arm with that of Ivy.
“Come on, I know the perfect place,” she pulled her along.
“No, wait,” she protested and drew her arm away from her hold. She was not going for lunch, there was no need to follow this woman, moreover, she had something more important to do.
“What is wrong?” Sloan stopped and turned to her. She had the look of hurt in her eyes and it made Ivy groaned inwardly.
“I’m hungry, lets go please,” she stalked closer to Ivy and pouted her lips while she opened her eyes a little bit more, making her both sexy and helpless. It enhanced her beauty and honestly, she would have her way with that look anytime, but Aziza was no man or human.
“Stop that,” she snapped instead and Sloan frowned.
“Okay,” she retorted and turned away to leave. Aziza rolled her eyes at the woman but something struck her heart, just a little.
“Maybe I should not have snapped at her?” her thoughts voiced out and she sighed. Sloan was acting desperate and pushing it, she could not tolerate that.
“But she was being nice,” her thoughts added and her stomach grumbled.
“Sloan,” she called out and the woman stopped. The tall beautiful woman turned back to her with a wide grin on her face.
“I knew that no one could be able to resist my charm.” Ivy chuckled at her words and rolled her eyes as she walked towards the woman who was so full of herself.
Just as she wanted, she followed her to the restaurant that she was speaking of. It was a simple restaurant but it had a familiar air to it. It was filled up to the brim and almost all the tables were filled up and Sloan just did not stop talking.
“Geez, this people are like scavenging wolves,” Sloan said as they walked in and found the place filled up.
“Oh, they are not,” Ivy responded.
“They are just hungry.” She added.
“It’s always filled up here,” she whined and turned to her.
“You are not the only one who likes good food,” she retorted and looked away. Her eyes roamed the restaurant, and the people in it and her mind went to Damon. He had left her and she did not follow as she ought to, it made her worry for she was very far from him.
“Hey,” Sloan pulled her away from her thoughts and she turned to her.
“Is something wrong?”
“No,” she answered. But the air around her suddenly went hot and her heart skipped a bit. That was a familiar feeling.
“Go make an order, let me use the restroom.” She said immediately and turned to the restroom.
In a dash, she found herself in the restroom and took a deep breath. She had to be sure of what she was feeling. She shut her eyes and thought of Damon, in a flash, the streets, the people and everything else zoomed past her sight till it got to the exact restaurant she had scheduled the lunch date. Damon was sitting at the top floor of the restaurant, close to the window with a man in his forties and white beards, and a lady with dark hair and a red gown. Her gaze moved from them to the building around and gasped escaped her lips when she saw the man on black, he was at the top of the next building and was coupling a gun. She dashed into one of the bathrooms and took off her wig, then her lenses but she stopped when she thought of what she as putting on. She could not go to Damon looking like Ivy, or dressed like Ivy. If she did, he would know that they were the same and the relationship between them would be different and suspicious. She groaned and took off the gown and her shoes. Left with only her bra and panties, in swift speed, she ran back to her apartment and just like lightening she wore her dark attire and zoomed to the restaurant.
Her eyes went back to Damon and he was relaxed in his lunch. His guards were clueless and stupid and the sniper was ready to fire. She ran towards the building and slammed the assassin against the wall, the gun fell from where it was to the very ground.
“Don’t hurt me,” the man quivered.
“Seriously” she growled and threw him off the building. Then she bent down, relaxing her hand on her knees as she took a deep breath. Her heart was panting and her ears were hot.
Crack
The sound of gun fire made her shot up just as she saw a bullet heading straight for Damon.
“No,” she ran down from the building she was in and right through the other building, crashing through the glass door and straight for the floor Damon was. She hurled herself against him and pushed him off his chair just at the same time the bullet brushed past him. They crashed against the window and down they went from the top building. The rush of air against their skin as they fell quickly made Damon hold onto her tighter. She spun around, holding Damon with all her strength while making sure she was below and he was on top then her back hit hard against a car. The back of her head slammed against a hard surface. Car honks followed and the pain of a broken bone followed then gasps.
Damon eyes widened as he saw the woman below him.
“Aziza,” he whispered and tried to get up from the woman who was below him while he tried to understand what happened.
“Shut up and get up,” she groaned. He stood up from her with the help of his guards that had suddenly surrounded him. Her head hurt, and her back felt like it was no longer there. she was sure that she had broken a few bones or should probably be dead with the hit her head took. But she was supernatural.
“Aziza,” Damon called out and tried helping her down, but she slapped his hand away and rolled on her back to the opposite direction. She fell hard to the floor and broke her arm.
“s**t,” she cried in pain. Damon winced, her pain getting to him way more than it should. He rushed to her with a few of his guards.
“Gunners are everywhere,” she whispered to him and shut her eyes. She had not paid attention before but it was not only one assassin, neither was it two. They were all positioned strategically and she had been too stupid to see. She took a deep breath and another, then another. Oxygen felt like life spreading into her, as her bones slowly began to heal. She pushed herself up to a sitting position, then she shot back her broken arm back to its joint.
