Russel stared at her, his heart melting away at the very feel of her anger. He was scared for a lot of things, he was scared for the people who had turned her the way she was, he was scared for the supernatural realm, he was scared for her and the evil waiting to be unleashed. But he was more scared that it would destroy her sooner than he realized.
“Now stop looking at me that way and tell me why you are here,” she snapped at him when she noticed that he was looking at her with those same eyes he always did. Those eyes that wanted her to be normal, to act normal and look normal. He had to stop dreaming, because she was already scared beyond repair, there was no normal life for her, not until she was done. She let her towel go loose, and allowed it fall back to the ground, while ignoring the man who she had come to know. He could do nothing to her, that she was sure of, because she would snap his neck if he tried.
“You tried going into the house?” he said, remembering exactly why he came to see her. He had felt the force that tried to break in to his house and was very sure she was the one especially after he missed her call.
“Yes,” she flashed him a hard glare remembering the way his protective barrier over his house had flung her to the other side of the street. But he only chuckled and shrugged at the look on her face. Then she turned back to dressing up.
“I wanted to eat. I was so hungry, I felt like something was eating my inside,”
“Why didn’t you call?” he asked and once again she flashed him a deathly glare.
“Oh!” he exclaimed, understanding that she called.
“Why didn’t you use your card?”
“It’s out,” she simply said and picked up a black heel with a low pump.
“Oh!” he said again.
“You need to get me a new card or else you will have dead bodies in front of your house by morning.” She added, meaning every word of it and he sighed heavily.
“Okay, grumpy.”
She finished with her heels and got up, then she turned to the mirror and realized that her pupils were dark instead of blue. But then, she remembered something and turned to the man who was still sitting on her bed.
“Damon is a Velaryon,” she stated. His eyes went wide, then he opened his mouth to speak but nothing seem to be coming out as well. He was just as surprise as she was.
“Oh, my world!”
“How? When….” He took a deep breath and ran his hand over his head as he got up.
“I should have known that,” he slapped his head.
“They were all wiped away except for the rulers then. Queen Zehra was pregnant then. On the night of her delivery, they were all killed, mysteriously but their bodies were never found. What was left was simply ashes of them and that was how the Velaryon’s were wiped from the face of the world. Only…”
“Her son, the heir to the throne wasn’t dead,” Aziza completed with a smile on her lips.
“But how did you know?” he asked, curiously.
“His eyes,” she said and turned back to mirror, then picked up the box that contained all blue contact lenses.
“That drugs keeps his powers at bay. If he could only tolerate the pain, then he would see what he is capable of,” she added and wore the lenses. Then she stared at her self again, and concluded that it was all good.
“He doesn’t need the supernatural world Az…”
“Please,” she raised her hand in the air, halting him before he continued what she knew that he was about to say.
“He is going to be the prince, whether he likes it or not,” she concluded, picked up her bag and walked away, leaving him behind. But she stopped in her tracks and turned back to her room remembering that she needed money to board a cab and eat. The room was empty when she got there, but on the bed, was a stack of cash. She smiled at herself and picked it up, then she turned back to the door.
“You are welcome,” the voice of Russel spoke in her mind and she rolled her eyes.
“I never said thank you,” she replied
“You just did,” he chuckled.
Fortunately, she got to the office just as early as she wanted and was happy that she did. Apologizing was not her thing and she would prefer to not apologize to Damon or Charles. She strode past the receptionist and towards the elevator just as a lot of other employees walked into the building and towards their various directions and most towards the elevator. It was already filled up when she got there, so she had to wait for her turn.
“Being here is like hell,” a lady said, standing beside her. Aziza turned to her then looked away without saying a word. There was no need speaking to such a person who did not know how to keep her mouth shut, moreover she was not there to make friends. Humans were not worth it.
“Who knew that working for Damon Roxwell could be like this, I would never have applied,” she continued talking yet Aziza said nothing.
“But I bet that you are having the chills working side by side with him. But it’s not all that hard since you have such handsomeness close to you,” the lady continued, bent on getting a reply from the clumsy pa of their boss.
“He must give you the butterflies as well, he is so hot,” she turned to her. But Aziza was staring at the elevator, waiting for it to come back down.
“Hey, I’m talking to you,” the lady stretched her hand to reach for that of Aziza but she snatched her hand away from her reach and finally turned to the woman who needed a lot of attention.
“Do you touch every body you see?” she glared at her with hard eyes.
“Do you act like a b***h to people who try to be nice to you,” the lady snapped back. For a moment there, Aziza was taken aback. She never expected the dark skinned, tall and talkative woman to be so sharp tongued.
“People are stupid,” she retorted and turned away. Just then the elevator beeped and opened up. someone walked out and she walked in only for the same woman to follow her in.
“You are a person too, are you stupid then?” the lady continued and she groaned loudly. She could not be doing this at that point.
“Are you bent on getting your tongue cut off?” she turned to her and crossed her hand over her chest. The lady’s eyes widened with shock, revealing the perfect pair of beautiful upturned eyes that she had ever seen.
“For a woman who look so sweet and naïve, you sure act the opposite,” she blurted out and looked away. Aziza immediately snapped out of her state of being Aziza and mentally slapped herself. She was supposed to be Ivy. Getting a grip of herself, she dropped her hands from her chest and turned away.
“I’m Sloan,” the lady blurted out none the less and stretched her hand towards her for a handshake.
“Does she need friends so badly? Is she that miserable?” Aziza thought and stared at the hand opened in front of her, unwilling to take it in hers but she knew that she had to make amends.
“Ivy,” she took her hand and they shook.
“Woke up from the wrong side of the bed I see,” Sloan said and she gave her a nod, still not ready to speak to her, then withdrew her hand. The elevator stopped and opened up like it could hear her thought and she was the happiest to leave the talkative behind.
She went straight for her desk and started the days work without needing to be told. It did not take long for Damon to come out from the same elevator. The atmosphere around the office changed the moment the door to the elevator opened. It felt colder than normal and his scent hit her harder than it had ever. Then it went completely quiet. She ended the call she was on and turned to the elevator. His hair was in its usual way and usual silver color and to lame eyes, he looked even more handsome than ever. But Aziza saw the way the color in his face looked duller, his eyes were not as bright and he had eye bags. But he still had the hard look he always had when he was at work, it. He walked towards her with all the authority in the world surrounding him. Then their eyes met, his gaze softened instantly at her and she looked away without meaning to. He walked past her into his office and she stood up, picking the tablet that she was given the previous day and went into his office immediately after him. He went straight for his sit and sat down beside his desk, then he turned on his laptop and picked some files on his desk, ready for work.
“Good morning…” she stressed longer than normal. Damon raised his gaze to meet hers, as the familiar feeling of being watched descended on him like never before.
“Sir,” she mumbled and lowered her gaze to avoid his. He stared at her for an even longer time, but looked away. He had to remind himself that there was no connection between her and the woman who had broken into his house the previous night. It was high time he stopped looking for one.
“Do you want to state why you are here or….?” He added grumpily and she sighed at herself.
“Your meeting with the contractors would begin in the next fifteen minutes,” she started listing all the things he had to do.
“The CEO of filine corporation would be here by 9am,”
“The shareholders of William Park university want to meet,”
“Cancel,” he stated dryly.
“CEO yang has been calling as well,” she chipped in.
“I’m busy,”
“Lunch with the senator’s daughter and her father by 12pm,” she added. Damon snapped his eyes to meet the woman in front of him angrily, but just as his eyes met that same face, his heart softened.
“Is there a problem?” she asked, lifting her eyes from the tablet once she felt his gaze on her.
“Didn’t I ask you to send the schedule to me?” he asked.
“s**t!” her thoughts mumbled knowing that she had messed up.
“I don’t think that…”
“I asked you to send that to me, right before I left this office last night,” he growled when she tried to lie. The meeting with the senator and his daughter had been something that he had been avoiding for a very long time but that was all over because she had fixed a lunch meeting with them.
“Don’t yell at me, I was really hungry last night,” she blurted out and his eyes went wide, with outraged and shock.
“Hungry?” he asked remembering that a certain red hair was hungry as well.
