The following morning, I not only received a good morning message from Finch, but I also received his address and a time suggestion waiting for me. After responding and working out the time I would be at his place on Sunday, I went about my day. The whole day I couldn’t help but have a good day. Not even having to deal with a group of overly touchy-feely guys at the club could put me in a bad mood. Same with the following day after waking up to yet another good morning message from Finch. There was just something about knowing he was thinking of me so much, so he sent me a message letting me know he was thinking of me. I know it was simply him saying good morning. But it was still enough for me to know he was thinking of me.
Sunday morning was no different. When I woke up, I had a message from Finch saying good morning and that he was looking forward to dinner tonight. And I have to say I was, too. I know it wasn’t going to be a date, date with his daughter going to be there. But I didn’t care. I was going to get to see him. First, I had to get through lunch with my dad, Sandra, Noah, and Luke. And I would be lying if I said I was even the slightest bit excited about it. But keeping my dad in my life was something my mom made me promise I would do before she passed. Unfortunately, with my dad comes the other three, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Getting ready to go to lunch, I spent a little more time than I usually do picking out what I was going to wear for the day. My choice was made not because of who I was meeting for lunch but because of where and who I would be with for dinner. It wasn’t anything fancy, but it still looked nice, but not, so I was overdressed. A simple dark purple sleeveless knee-length sundress that I paired with a simple pair of sandals. Doing a light layer of makeup, I finished the look by curling my hair and leaving it down for the curls to fall over my shoulders. When I was ready to go, I made my way to the restaurant my dad had chosen for lunch.
To my surprise, Sandra, Noah, and Luke were already inside, sitting with my dad. Normally, he had some kind of lecture he wanted to give me first, but I could only guess he didn’t today. Though I knew it was a matter of time before he found something to lecture me on, unfortunately, I didn’t realize it would be nearly instantly after I walked in and sat down with them.
“Petal, dear, you look lovely today. What’s the special occasion?”
Sitting next to Sandra, Noah scoffed at his mother's fake interest in what I was wearing. Ignoring him, I decided to answer Sandra's question.
“Oh nothing special, I am just meeting a guy for dinner tonight and didn’t want to have to change between.”
Again, Noah scoffed.
“You really still hanging out with that MC d**k? You know he has a kid and probably a wife already, right?”
Sighing, I shook my head. My dad instantly sat up in his seat and jumped into the conversation before I could say anything else.
“See, that is what I am saying. He is using you daughter and you are being stupid enough to let him. He has a whole family and is still sniffing around you.”
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I sighed again.
“Can we just stop? First, Noah doesn’t know what he is talking about. Not completely, anyway. Finch does, in fact, have a daughter. But he is not married. He is a single father raising a very sweet little girl whose mother died while giving birth to her. Second of all, none of you know him at all. So before you go around judging him for things that clearly have nothing to do with him, maybe you should wait to pass judgment until after you have met him.”
Shaking his head, my dad wasn’t having anything I was saying. And the rest of the lunch was spent with him trying to explain to me why I was making such a bad life choice in dating Finch. The whole time, Noah fueled the fire by making snide comments as often as he could find an opening that he would be heard. In the beginning, I tried to get both of them to understand just how wrong they were. But no matter what I said to them, they were not changing their minds.
By the end of lunch, I was so annoyed with both of them, but I had plans and would keep them. There was no way I would change their minds, and no point in my trying. They thought they were right. Even though they were not. So I left it as I knew they didn’t know what they were talking about, so I counted the minutes until lunch was over. Then, I counted the minutes until it was time to go to the address Finch gave me. To entertain myself after lunch, I went to a couple of stores and did a little shopping therapy to help put me back in a good mood. Something that is always guaranteed to work.
Then, when it was time, I made my way over to Finch’s house. Pulling my car into the driveway as he had instructed I do when we had decided on what time I would be at his place. Parking my car behind the car I had already seen once when he took me to the store while my car was down. Parked in front of the car a little off to the side was his motorcycle. Shutting off my car, I climbed out and made my way up to the front door. Only just making it to the first of three steps that led up to the small porch. Finch already there, opening the front door for me.
