Chapter 6

Emerlae really gave me something to think about, looking at the bracelet she left me I really tried to dig deep into the closed parts of my mind to see if it brought back any memories but it didn't. Shoving it in my pocket, I returned to my path and went back to the cabin.

Xayvion wasn't off duty yet, I noticed he was working till late and that's what probably made him lose a little weight. It wasn't only Xayvion that was out, Charlotte and Xenia were gone too, leaving just me and my newly found thoughts, although I would have loved to ponder on the things Emerlae told me there was a much bigger issue to consider, the new bloods mutation

I haven't experienced much of them but from the little knowledge I have gained thus far they weren't always like this, comparing them from vampires in movies was a little immature but I was putting all things into consideration. From how badly the warrior wolves looked, I could feel the poison ran deeper than just blood.

"What can you do Dev?"

Even though Mabaya sent me away to work alone I still want to help her in any way I can, this is my pack too after all. Xayvion has a library here, oddly enough, I had never seen him read before, maybe I can find something in there if I check hard enough.

The library wasn't even a library, rather a half-empty room with two or three shelves, it didn't have much but it was a start. Searching the shelves, I picked out any book that looked like it held valuable information, some were in a very complicated language but they had pictures, with a little imagination I could possibly piece something together.

I had at least four books in hand, it was enough to begin research, I didn't want to overwork my brain too soon. Placing the books down on a round yellow carpet I began flipping through pages to see what I could find. The first book, covered in brown leather, only had information about werewolf transformation, it was interesting for the most part but I wasn't looking for that kind of information.

The two other books I picked out were in a difficult language, no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't imagine what they were trying to describe. The last book restored my faith that I could find something, it had information about plants and the bonus was, it had pictures as well, paintings to be more precise.

The plants I was reading through I had never heard of before, either they are really ancient plants or they were renamed because of the difficulty in pronunciation; Out of all the plants two really caught my eye, Klasnettle, and Edahies; according to the description, Klasnettle is a plant that is highly poisonous, its roots hold toxins strong enough to harm an alpha and Edahies is a 'miracle plant', when used properly it could heal all but it went extinct with the first generation of wolves.

One plant that can fatally harm a wolf another that can heal all, the most disturbing part, the more helpful plant doesn't exist anymore. The book didn't give out locations of where anyone could find them but that was alright, the first step was finding out about them anyway, everything else could come later.

I looked out the window to relax my eyes and realized it was really dark outside, since I was all the way to the end of the hall maybe I just couldn't hear everyone, I had done enough work already, closing the books I carried them out with me so I could study them in my room later on.

I ended up studying the book of plants all night, with an hour of rest I returned to the books when the sun came up, the more I read the more fascinated I was, around here, they have a plant for everything, sicknesses, wounds, skin problems, and even evil spirit problems. I had my knees to my chest just flipping through all the pages and taking down notes, I had never been so interested in a book.

Although I was enjoying my studies my stomach cried for something to be put in it, having already taken my bath as early as 4 I left the room with ease. 

Inside the kitchen was Xayvion, Charlotte, and Jinx, I felt like I hadn't seen Jinx in forever. Giving a kiss to Xayvion, I sat beside Jinx and waited for breakfast;

"Good morning"

I turned to Jinx

"Good morning to you too, why are you acting so weird"

"Nothing, I just feel like I haven't seen you in forever"

"You just woke up, also I've been pretty busy with my own pack, big things are on their way"

"Oh yeah, Like what?"

"Well-"

Xayvion cleared his throat to draw Jinx' attention but it also drew mine, he gave her a certain look as to keep her quiet

"What the hell was that all about?"

"Nothing...what are you talking about?"

He evaded my eyes

"In case it hasn't sunk in yet, I'm not the same Dev I was 2 years ago, so don't treat me like it"

I glared until he finally looked at me

"Look, this has nothing to do with me not wanting you to overwork yourself...it's just a really delicate issue right now and it's still under discussion"

"No it's not Xayvion", Jinx protested, "It's way past the talking stage, it's now time for action"

"I'm not talking to you"

"But you are talking about matters that concern me"

"Woah! Everyone just relax, I apologize for starting this fight"

I tried to defuse the situation but it seemed the pending issue was ready to be discussed fully

"It's not your fault, the fault is Jinx who is too eager to grow a pair of balls"

"If I had best believe they'd be bigger than yours, what bothers you about this issue, tell me?"

"I'm not dragging this conversation on with you, your father, may his soul rest in peace, left you in my care and I get to decide when you're ready to leave"

"Leave?"

The conflict had been revealed, Jinx wants to leave the pack but Xayvion is saying otherwise

"There it is, I told you this is a delicate issue"

"Jinx, you want to leave, but why?"

"It's not just me, it's all of us Dev, my pack and I want to leave and start fresh somewhere else"

It already didn't sit well with me, it wasn't only because Jinx was my friend but because, at this time, when the new bloods are going on a rampage we need to protect each other and there's strength in numbers

"Jinx I don't want to upset you further but..."

"You agree with your mate, figures"

"Don't make it sound like that, you know how vocal I am about what I believe is right and I always fight for it even if it means being up against Xayvion, the reason I'm on his side is because I see where he's coming from"

"And where might that be?"

"The side of sense of course, at a time like this, when every pack is fearing for their lives you want to leave and possibly endanger not just you but everyone else in your pack"

"Don't you dare call me an irrational thinker, I know very well how to handle my pack"

"It doesn't look like it if you're desperate to leave just to die"

She didn't like my comeback at all, she approached me as if she wanted to fight, sizing me up looking to intimidate me, had I been as small I was when I first got here I would have backed down but my newly found height and stamina gave me a confidence boost, she was wrong and I am not backing down

"Dev, it's none of your business, back off"

"Because you're my friend and I care it is, I don't know what reason you may have for wanting to leave so soon, nothing is worth the kind of risk you want to take, just sit down and talk to me, I know we can work-"

Before I could even finish she pushed past me and stormed out of the kitchen, I felt my anger rise above its usual level, the urge to chase after her was strong but I fought to maintain it

"Dev, are you alright?"

Charlotte put her hands on my shoulders, I took a breath

"I'm alright"

"That was...unexpected, I didn't expect you to side with me, let alone go head to head with Jinx"

"I didn't want to fight her, I just wanted to talk and she just...forget it, she just needs to blow off some steam"

"Looks like you do too"

"I already told you, I'm fine"

"And I insist, come outside with me"

"For what?"

"I want to see something"

He had a look of curiosity mixed with what looked like confidence, he said he wanted to see something but I wasn't in the mood to do anything for his amusement, nevertheless, I followed him.

Xayvion took me outside to an entirely different section of the grounds where several men and women were training, some doing cardio exercises and others fighting, they were all well built, skillful and tactical, it was like soldiers training

"What's going on here?"

"These are my elites, as cliché as it may sound, these are the warrior wolves we are depending on when it comes to new blood attacks"

"That's a lot of pressure, I can only imagine how hard they train every day"

"It's insane"

"How would you rate their level of strength?"

"You see that blonde over there? The one putting a man in a headlock"

At the furthest end of the grounds, a tall blonde woman was manhandling her opponent, she did not look physically ripped like the men but it didn't matter, she was dominating

"She's intense"

"That's Rebecca, joined our pack at 16 and ever since has taken the title of strongest female, if she and Jinx went head to head they'd be fighting till sunset because their skill is so well matched"

"That's amazing, I'm all about female power"

"I know you are, that's why I brought you here"

"Huh? I don't understand"

"Back in there, when you had your dispute with Jinx, I noticed something in you, something strong"

"Oh?"

"Mmm-hmm, you didn't back down from her intimidation, almost anyone with a strength level lower than hers would back down but not you, do you know what that means?"

"I'm getting a hazy image but I don't want to be cocky"

"You and Jinx now have the same level of strength, if not higher"

Those were words I never thought I'd hear from anyone, sure, I didn't back down but it was because I wanted to prove a point, not because I knew I could fight her

"That's...a little impossible to believe"

"No, it's not, I've noticed your new body in all its glory, it's not just the appearance but the way you're walking now and even acting, whatever it is that you're going through it's helped get your body to this place and we're going to test it out"

"You lost me again, how are testing my new body out"

"You", he stood behind me and placed his hands on my shoulders, "are you going to fight Rebecca"

"What?"
