The Last Page is Different

Chapter 3

Rey was walking nervously across the main hall. Yu Jane dubbed her house "The Night Palace" since she only stays there to sleep. The clock's ticking sound was so loud that it disturbed the thoughts of those who were now seated. Dr Jin, who was also waiting anxiously, suddenly got up and pointed his Watch, which lit up as he rose. "It's three in the morning. We have to do something! I have surgery in the morning and can't remain here for long. Rey! We should go back; she was never so late! Are you truly going to stand here and wait as she ordered you? "What if she dies by the morning?" Rey, who was moving restlessly, turned to Dr Jin and said, "Pack what you need. We're going to the Southern Waters." He called Jenna, their office assistant, and said, plainly worried, "Call headquarters and inform them of the news, and tell them to dispatch a search team immediately."

Yu Jane's condition oscillated between consciousness and a state of trance. As her mind drifted, she heard people running towards her, yelling someone's name loudly that she couldn't recognize, and when she regained consciousness, she saw people running towards her, calling her name, which she recognized.

Dr. Jin and Rey rushed her to the ambulance, holding their breath in hopes of saving her life. "Hang on! Don't Give Up! Can you hear my voice? Do you know who I am?" Rey was literally crying in her ears to keep her awareness in check.

"Shut Up, Rey... You're extremely loud."

After a moment of silence, Yu Jane said, "I believe I just witnessed paradise! People rushed towards me. They all sounded concerned. Someone called me something... I can't recall"

"Well, whatever... Rey, you know what to do. I have taped everything, but the person who stabbed me is not that old man. It's the lady in red. You must locate her...."

"and my dog doesn't enjoy sleeping alone. Keep her close."

Rey hadn't expected her to utter so much in a one breath, and dread could be shown in his eyes. "Save it! When you get alright, tell the rest".

"Don't say a word more... you are not dying here!"

Yu Jane smiled and hummed as she lay down, without moving. The ambulance neared the hospital, and Dr Jin pushed the stretcher to the entrance, gently placing her on it, and rushing inside.

After 5 hours of operation, Dr Lin exited the theater and sat next to Rey, "She saved both of us." Rey's eyes were as big as the ocean. Despite his objections, Dr. Jin continued, "I could save her, but she is in a vegetative state". He paused, "I'm not sure whether she'll wake up since the damage is lethal, and she also have several internal injuries . You..... must go and do what has to be done."

Rey saw her through the doorway and rushed back to her house. He unlocked the door and entered her home office, turning on the computer. He paused for a moment and entered the password "ReyisStupid", Jane changed her password to this as Rey lost in a very stupid bet long back. He then opened her cloud storage and examined the data. Scrolling down revealed a file with a date and time that matched the occurrence. He copied and pasted the data into the hard disc. As they were copying, he discovered folders with various names, including his own. After a moment of doubt, he clicked to open it. He chose the most current one to see what it was.

"Oh! Shut up, Rey! I'm reading a f*****g book. If you are going to continue annoying me like this, I might as well to employ you as my nanny!"

"This one? Didn't you shout at this one and throw it away last week? Dr. Jane, are you aware that you still have 400+ unopened books on your shelf? Why hang on to this one? and......Why are you cleaning it again?"

"I like this one, but it's pretty cliché. Hmmm... at the very least it had a fierce female protagonist, but she died too early, and he married her closest friend shortly after. What a scumbag! Men may marry as many as they want, but women cannot. If I'm in this book as his wife, I'll make sure he never looks at any other ladies".

"And..... because you forgot about my OCD, I cleaned your laptop as well. Now fu*k off. Do not disturb me while I'm reading or cleaning... your nagging makes my ears bleed"

"She really records..... very.... random things," Rey said painfully as he picked up the puppy that was cuddling up on his leg. In about a minute, he heard 'Bing' from the monitor. He closed the computer, took up the dog's lease, and headed to do what he needed to do.

The rain slowed, as if the clouds had depleted their water stocks. The calm breeze was gently moving the window curtains in her home office, and the book she loved and despised equally slid from the window cushion and opened on a random page.

The emperor of the Sapphire Dynasty, Arth Spencer II, brutally murdered his Northern kingdom ally and his family, seizing his sole 12-year-old kid as a prisoner and a war trophy. Later, it was uncertain where that youngster disappeared off the face of the world. Karma, on the other hand, allowed the Sapphire Dynasty ministers to band together against their own emperor, executing him under the guise of sickness, five years after ascending to the throne. They finally decided to make the emperor's only daughter Lynn, who had just turned 18 that year, their puppet queen, whose only wish is to collect beautiful things while ignoring her duty as ruler and agreeing to everything that was brought to her, just as they wanted her to be.

Yu Jane couldn't completely open her eyes due to the dazzling sunlight. She screwed her brow in disbelief that someone had the audacity to pull her curtain aside early in the morning.

"I swear to god...... If it's you, Rey, you will be in the headlines tomorrow morning!"

She spoke with rage while still struggling to deal with the intense light that was gradually revealing how much agony she was experiencing in her body. "Fu*k it hurts everywhere!". Yu Jane opened her eyes slowly, adapting to the pain and brightness, only to discover that the people in strange garb carrying water containers, garments, and other items, gazing at her in horror.

"Who are you all?"

"What are you doing in my bedroom?"

Yu Jane looked around at the gathering and recognized one face.

I saw him somewhere...huh? Isn't this him? In my dream, somebody ran towards me, crying, while others screamed about something.

"Wait?'

"Is this Heaven?

"I'm... DEAD?"

She put her head in her hands and eventually accepted that she was dead and had gone to paradise, since no one dared to say anything to her.

"Please tell me this is Heaven!"
