The Last Page is Different

Chapter 2

The sound of heels reverberated in the space beneath the bridge near the Southern Waters. Above, the rain made it certain that even if someone cried out for help, their pleas would go unheard.

"I can even hear my breath. Is this even a crime scene? An inspection needed right away? what a load of bullshit...... Excuse me! Do you happen to know the whereabouts of the policemen?"

Yu Jane casually expressed her dissatisfaction with their plan to kill her, on how their group should come up with something more exciting next time. As she spoke, she slowly twisted the time-turner pendant on her neck.

"So... you figured out... you quite with the talent to cut yourself off from your partner.. was it to save him?"

"He looked quite attractive... my children would have enjoyed... spending time with him" a voice emerged from the dancing light beneath the bridge.

A group of men strolled over from who knows where casually holding cigarettes in their hands, much to the disgust of Yu Jane. Her eyebrows furrowed with a touch of irritation upon hearing his remarks about Rey. A woman in a striking red dress, revealing more than it concealed, draped herself provocatively over an older man who looked ugly no matter which angle it was. With a flirtatious giggle, she playfully said, "If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't have let that man slip away."

"Perhaps I am more intelligent to understand the importance of not heading out alone when there is a potential threat". The man who was inappropriately touching her responded, "I value women who are smart like yourself" while slowly raising his hands over her thighs.

Yu Jane felt a wave of nausea as she witnessed the disturbing scene before her. She muttered quietly to herself, "I need to go home... I'll have to pester Rey to bring me a full bottle of holy water from the church to cleanse my eyes and ears." Yu Jane couldn't contain her laughter, the sound resonating across the entire bridge. "I probably don't have the same level of intelligence as you, lady," she chuckled, "but you see... I graduated from The West Bridge University with a gold medal. It landed me in a very good-paying job that allowed me to afford a dress that adequately covers my body." She glanced at the woman, sizing her up, and added, "Darling!" I'm not your average protagonist... who needs a man to swoop in and save me. I am more than capable of dealing with your entire infestation of cockroaches by myself". Jane walked leisurely along the corners of the bridge, her face contorted as she gazed at the grimy surroundings.

"Is it real? The person who sent you to harm me is so poor that you all had to conceal yourselves in.... in a sewage?"

"You!!!!!"

"For real? Oh, come on! I would hv greatly appreciated it if they could offer you all a greater reward for my death! It's quite a challenging task, you know??"

She took off her overcoat sluggishly as the entire team across her seethed with anger in response to her biting sarcasm.

"I would hv kept you alive if you were humble and begged! If, by the end of today, my boys fail to remind you of how little your worth is now, I will personally deal with you.. I will make you beg on your knees! I will make you to offer yourself to me". The man forcefully shoved the woman he was holding, his voice booming with anger. "Boys!" Feel free to go and do whatever you please. Give me a very good show!" He took a seat on the stone next to him, igniting a cigar that emitted a rather unpleasant smell.

Ignoring his words, Yu Jane meticulously folded her overcoat and located a spot that was pristine, carefully draping it there. The sound of approaching footsteps, she instinctively spun around to find a group of men advancing towards her, armed with bats and wooden logs.

"Oh my... ! Let's keep it clean. ok? I am quite germophobic". She paid no attention to them, casually taking off her white formal shirt and keeping it over her overcoat. Underneath, a black brief concealed her sophisticated dragon tattoo, which elegantly wrapped around her right arm from shoulder to wrist. On her back, a majestic phoenix with outstretched wings faced the sky, its beauty showcased on her shoulders as Yu Jane gracefully extended her arms, gently stretching her muscles, giving the tattoo the illusion of a poised phoenix, prepared to take flight.

"Then....Shall we begin?" she said with a smile, slowly turning towards them.

Even after many hours of rain, the blood stains persisted, giving the whole area a crimson hue.

Just minutes after boosting, their leader began to crawl backward while yelling, "I'm telling you... STOP! I will tell you all! Absolutely everything! Let me go! Those three ministers' children were among those you detained last month in connection with a r*pe case.

Yu Jane stopped her steps, "So it was them?". She stooped and picked up a hockey bat from the ground next to a limp body with many broken bones. When he realized what she was about to do, he began to scream. "They did it!" Your death was their goal! They sent over the down money and promised to pay the rest after we put an end to your life! the sum was three million dollars... it is the reason for our involvement! Everything was as I told you! Not a single word is a lie! Now let me go!" before he could complete saying the rest of his rants, his voice broke out in panic.

Sitting next to him, she said, "Just three million? You know what? I'm worth more than that". She grinned at him while fiddling with her time-turner pendant, exclaiming, "I got what I wanted but.. you see... my pride hurts.. so you ain't living, hon!"

Soon a scream reached the heavens, the pouring rain muffled it. Yu Jane got to her feet and made her way to the edge, where she diligently hung her dress. She took her clothes and her hand that had been cleaning the coat froze suddenly. It seemed as if Yu Jane had an inexplicable creepy feeling of something. Her exceptional hearing allowed her to pinpoint the exact direction from which the assailant was coming. Upon turning around, she shrieked in terror. "Oh God! That man was nasty from head to toe! I am killing you, and the money is mine now!" the lady in red snarled at Yu Jane.

"This goes beyond what I expected. I can't believe I let myself get killed by a rat! Yu Jane started laughing as the lady gracefully removed the fingerprints off the knife, and putting it in the old man's hands casting his fingerprints.

It was the last thing Yu Jane saw, before closing her eyes forever.
