Chapter 5 : Monster detector device

 The mysterious man who give hard blow to the monster was none other than Kevin, who had been watching the hunting process from behind a bush. Actually Kevin's strength is still too weak to be able to fight monsters, but Kevin can hit and knock him down because the monster is in a state of jumping and off guard. Then after that, Kevin waved his hand because he felt pain, after he gave a blow with all his might.

 Then Kevin stood up boldly near the body of the monster who was now lying on the ground. But it seems the monster still doesn't want to give up, because it quickly starts to get back up to give Kevin a deadly attack.

 But, quickly, the soldiers who were there also start to attacked the monster again, so Kevin immediately jump to dodging the bullets from them. The shooting from the soldiers continued to rain down the monster's body in succession, so that finally the monster was killed and then its body collapsed to the ground, after receiving many deadly shots from the soldiers. A few moments later, the body of the lying monster immediately burned to ashes, but the horns did not burn, because the horns of the monsters were the part that was destroyed the longest.

 And before the horn was completely destroyed, the soldiers quickly ran toward it, then one of them took and put the horn into a special iron box that could keep the things inside so that it was durable to use later, because the horn is containing the very precious energy that could be useful almost for everything.

Kevin just stood there while watching it, he did not want to hinder the work of the soldiers. Then a moment later, the leader of the Soldiers came over to Kevin, while saying.

 "Good night, beforehand I wanted to thank you for your help just now ... My name is Cross. May I know what your name is? " Asked the leader to Kevin.

 "My name is Kevin, I accidentally was passing by here, then suddenly I heard a commotion and watched you guys fight against that monster." Said Kevin making excuses.

 "Oh that monster, hmmm ... About that monster, can you keep it a secret from other people." Asked Cross to Kevin.

 “Why do I have to keep this amazing thing a secret from other people? At least I can warn a lot of people about the existence of those dangerous creatures, right? " Asked Kevin.

 "Eumm about that, you don't have to worry, we are an army that specializes in dealing with monsters, and we are very well trained ... Our job is a secret task, and so as not to cause panic among the wider community, so you should also keep a secret about it. this is matter." Said Cross.

 "Panic in the community, huh? … By the way, what company do you work for? ” Kevin asked again.

 "We work independently, every night we hunt monsters for the safety of the people." Replied Cross.

 "Oh, yes? Then where will you take the horn? And why are you also shooting at the humans who are still gripped by that monster? Shouldn't human safety be number 1 ?? " Kevin continued to ask questions that both cornered and made it difficult for Cross.

 Kevin actually knows that they are NeoGen's troops, and they don't kill monsters for the sake of the humanity, but for money. So that they ignore the safety of human hostages while carrying out their duties. And that made Kevin dislike them.

 The questions given by Kevin started to make Cross furious, because he had difficulty to answering every question from Kevin at once. Therefore, with an angry expression on his face, Cross immediately grabbed Kevin's collar as he said.

 "Who are you, actually ?? Why do you ask so many questions? Are you currently gathering information about us? " Cross asked emotionally.

 Then with a calm expression and with a slight smile, Kevin answered. “There is no special reason. I guess I'm just, allergic to lies. "

 "What are you saying?!! … You're very suspicious, you might be a gargoyle in human form! ” Cross said.

Then immediately, the Soldiers behind Cross began pointing their guns at Kevin, they prepared to shoot Kevin if their leader ordered them, because there were indications that Kevin was also a gargoyle disguised as a human.

 "Hmm, you can test me." Kevin said as he stretched his hand to one of the soldiers under Cross's order.

After Cross nodded to that soldier, then the soldier took a knife from his vest pocket, and he immediately stabbed a little skin on Kevin's forefinger, so that Kevin's finger spat out a drop of red blood. Therefore, it can be ascertained that Kevin is a human, and not a gargoyle. Because if Kevin is a monster, the blood that comes out will be green.

 "Captain, he is a human." Said the soldier.

 After that, with a sharp gaze, Cross spoke before Kevin's face. “Hmm, looks like you are someone who knows a lot about monsters. Now you have our attention, and if you ever mess up with us, then we won't be stay still. You should be aware that right now you are not dealing with ordinary soldiers, but with something bigger than you can imagine. So you better stop your investigations here, or your life will be in danger." Cross threatens Kevin.

 It seemed like Cross thought that Kevin was a journalist or something, so he thought that just by threatening, so Kevin would be afraid of him. But However, Kevin actually knew more than Cross could have imagined, even Kevin already knew that Cross and his men were troops belonging to the NeoGen company.

 Then after Kevin got the threat, Kevin immediately smiled, and he said. "Hmm, alright. I won't tell anyone. "

 "Very nice! If this news gets public, then I'll know who i have to looking for. " Cross said, still menacingly.

Then after Kevin nodded, Cross immediately released his grip from Kevin's collar. Then he walked away with his soldiers, and left Kevin there alone. They've got what they want (namely the monster's horns), and they've also marked Kevin as a person to watch out for, so for now their business there is over.

 "Let's go, our business here is finished ... Soon the cleaning team will come here to clean up everything." Cross said to his soldiers.

 "Yes Captain." Then at last they were all gone.

 Likewise with Kevin, his business there is also over, because he has got what he wants, namely a monster detection device, which can show the location whereabouts of the gargoyle and other monsters.

 Kevin can get the detection device with a trick. So that the detector was now in Kevin's hand, he managed to take it out of Cross's pants pocket secretly, when he and Cross were close to each other, he purposely made Cross angry so he could take something from Cross. So that means, from the start Kevin had a special intention in his meddling action against the Monster Hunter Soldier, led by Cross. So from now on, Kevin can find it easier to search for monsters, then maybe he can meet Christa.

 After a while, Kevin returned to his house in the middle of the night, when things were getting quiet on the streets. Along the way, he had tried to use his monster detection device, but he had not detected a single monster. Maybe because at that time the monsters in action preying on humans were only a few. Actually Kevin wanted to patrol longer, even until morning, but because he saw hundreds of unanswered phone calls from his mother, Kevin decided to go home immediately so that his mother wouldn't worry.

 When Kevin arrived at his house, he sneaked out and entered from the back door. It was so dark and quiet inside his house, it seemed that his mother was sleeping. But when Kevin had just finished closing the door, the light suddenly flashed so that Kevin suddenly felt shocked, and when he looked back, apparently the mother was standing near the switch, staring at her child with sharp eyes and a broom stick in her hand.

 Then the mother asked, "Where are you from?"

 "Eumm, mom ... I'm was ..."

 But Before Kevin finished his sentence, his mother asked him again. "You're drunk right ??"

 "N- no mom."

 "Don't lie!!"

 Then immediately the mother approached Kevin, while holding up the broom stick in his hand, so Kevin immediately ran asking for mercy, so there was a chase and commotion in the house, until Kevin was beaten up by his own mother, not by a monster.

 In the morning, Kevin returned to his normal activities in the office where he worked. At first he found it difficult to do each task, because he had stopped working in the office for more than 3 years. However, by asking a lot of questions to his friends who were there, Kevin was able to do all of his tasks that day well, even to completion. And currently he is sitting at his desk staring at the computer screen to find some information related to the phenomenon of the monsters appearance all around the places, which is still a mystery and is still considered a hoax in the wider community.

 While focusing on gathering information from his computer, Kevin found some surprising things, namely about the number of missing people who were increasing day by day, there were even cases of people being eaten by mysterious beasts, and cases of uncommon homicides by tearing the victims apart. The locations of these incidents include a murder in a public toilet, a murder on the street, a murder at a pedestrian bridge, and so on. This led to speculation in Kevin's mind that almost all those murder cases must have been committed by monsters, especially gargoyles.

 Even in the future, Kevin often deals with gargoyle-type monsters that can change into human form, so that several times Kevin was fooled when he was happy that he had met a human, but it turned out that the human was a gargoyle who was trying to devour him.

 Over time, with his power, Kevin is able to sniff out the whereabouts of gargoyles and other monsters that are not far from where he is, but he can only do this in the future, whereas in the present he does not have the ability to smell like that, because he still can't awaken his power yet, so Kevin is still a normal human.

When work hours are over, Kevin rushes to go home, he looks very rushed and he even refuses several invitations from his friends who want to go hang out, it seems that from now on Kevin will never have time for his friends anymore, but thats not a problem for Kevin.

 On the way home, Kevin tried to turn on the detection device to find the whereabouts of monsters, because who knows he could find the monster's whereabouts and meet Christa. After a while, Kevin saw that there was a red dot that flashed on the detector's screen, so that without thinking, Kevin immediately stepped on the gas at his motorbike to the location indicated by the detector.

 When Kevin arrived at the location, he immediately parked and got off his motorbike, then he felt a little surprised, because the location is a small restaurant that is in a narrow alley and was not traversed by many people, so that it aroused curiosity in Kevin’s mind. What was a monster doing in there?

 Then Kevin immediately entered the restaurant with a very careful step. When Kevin walked in, there was no one inside, but things were pretty good there, with a neatly arranged table and an unguarded cashier, also a fan whose head moved from side to side.

 When Kevin opened the door, there was a bell ringing, and the sound of the bell indicated that a customer had arrived, so a few moments later, someone appeared from the kitchen door, a middle-aged man in a chef's outfit and a friendly smile.

 When he saw Kevin, the man immediately greeted him. "Welcome mister, please have a seat."

"Ye- yes." Kevin said, while still feeling awkward.

 Then after Kevin sat down, the man immediately gave Kevin the menu book so that Kevin could choose and order the dishes he wanted. While looking at the menu, Kevin asked.

 "Are you a chef here?"

 "Yes, thats right."

 "You work alone here?"

 "Yes, today my employees are unable to come, so I am had to serve and cook for customers by myself." Answer the chef.

 "O- oh, I see ... I'll order this one."

 "Very well sir, please wait." Then after getting an order from Kevin, the chef rushed back into the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Kevin just continued to stare at him very seriously, then he looked again at the detection device, which showed that the red mark in the place was now slightly dimmed, it indicated that the monster was still there but his form was turning into a human. So after seeing this, Kevin became even more convinced that something strange was happening in this restaurant.

 "Hmm."

 Therefore, Kevin tried to find out more. Kevin started to get up from his chair and then he walked towards the kitchen door, because there was no sound of the stove on, or the sound of cooking utensils being used, it made Kevin feel even more suspicious.

 Without thinking, Kevin opened the kitchen door and then he entered the kitchen room which was quite dark. Instantly, Kevin began to feel a quiet and tense atmosphere when he was already in the room. Kevin walked while paying attention to the situation around him as well as looking for the whereabouts of the chef who wasn't there.

 Then Kevin immediately felt shocked, when he saw the corpse of a woman lying near the refrigerator, with fresh blood splattered on the floor.

 At the same time, Kevin also felt the presence of someone behind him. That is none other than the chef, who is currently standing behind Kevin while smiling and saying.

 "As I thought, you came here not to eat ... But to be eaten."

 Then, Kevin looking back, while asking, "Is that woman your customer?"

 "Yes, she came about an hour ago."

 "How long have you been doing this?"

 "Doing what?"

 "Prey on humans." Kevin said angrily.

 "You don't need to know, get ready to become a food!" Then immediately, the chef's form turned into a creepy gargoyle monster.

 With gray skin as hard as rock, green horns, also sharp fangs and claws that are ready to be used to rip his prey. Meanwhile, Kevin, who saw that, immediately acted so fast, he took the pot and knife that was on the table to arm himself. Then Kevin got ready to do battle with that chef who became a monster.
