Returned (ATHENS WOLVES NOVELLA)

"I can't f*****g believe this." I growled looking from my phone to my uncle and he raised his eyebrow. I had just dismissed the other rogues from my presence and I get a message from Courtney about René. "What?" He asked sensing how close I was to loosing my s**t. "A rogue attack in Athens, and they only focused on René." I ground out before standing. I had lost my s**t the moment I said attack. "Is she alive?" He asked and I growled as I shoved open the doors and saw a couple rogues and growled again. "Barely." I said when I reached the front door. "You're going back?" He asked me already knowing the answer. "She was asking for me." I told him once I got to my bike. "You sure you're okay to ride? You just took on three men in the ring." He asked me and I glared at him again. "You're the king of the rogues and someone has gone against you... what are you going to do?" "Protect the vulnerable part of my family." I told him and revved my engine before looking at him. "You hold things over while I bring them back." "You going to tell them about being King?" He asked me while I backed out of the small spot. "Maybe." I said and sighed before turning. "I'll check in." I told him before starting my 19 hour ride back home from the forests of Canada. I rode solely thinking about all of my memories of Rene. My baby sister was hurt because of retaliation. I would kill anyone who hurt her or Courtney. 19 hours non stop not even to look at my phone I arrived in the familiar boarder I had left the summer after graduation. Just three months after my 18th birthday. That was 8 years ago now. I came to a stop and sighed before looking both ways on the boarder. I shook off the feeling of someone watching me and rode in and took the familiar paths right up to the pack doctors seeing and smelling old familiar scents. One hit me like a brick wall and I stopped in my steps before remembering what Courtney had texted me. I walked faster into the building and caught my sisters scents and followed it. I opened a curtain and growled instantly seeing the cuts and bruises all over my baby sister. "You came." I heard Courtney and I looked at her as she stood and rushed to me and hugged me tight and started crying into my chest even more. I rubbed her back and focused on her rather than getting angry over how Rene looked. "I won't be going anywhere until she is out of here and you are both safe." I told her and kissed the top of her head. "If it isn't the new king." I heard Ian Russell and turned to see him and his Beta standing there. "King?" I heard Courtney ask and I looked back down to her and she moved back. "King of what?" "The Canadian Rogues." Jack said and she backed up even more. "Sean- rogues?" She looked down to Rene and I nodded slightly and looked at her before feeling my skin tighten. "I think we need to talk Sean." Ian said and I looked back to him and nodded again. "When doc comes in and give you a briefing we need to have that talk." He told me and then he dazed off before clearing his throat. "And Aaron and Greyson want to see you." He told me and I gulped and looked back to Rene. "When will Dr. Emily be in?" "Oh, she's on maternity leave, Dr. Sam is taking over for the next 4 months." Courtney said and I felt my wolf rise in me and I looked at the hallways, wishing to get a glimpse of her brown hair, or her hazel green eyes. "I'll go get Sam then." Ian said before turning and walking down the way. I heard a door open and mild chatting from him and then I heard her voice. It was getting closer and it made me shiver when I could see her shadow on the curtain. "Let's see how she is healing." She didn't even look at me. Just walked past me like she didn't even know me or see me. But then again I had told her to do that for weeks before I left. She used her little doctor flashlight and opened Rene's eyes and then started taking her blood pressure and then doing other tests before she sighed. "She's healing right?" Courtney asked almost scared because she had been watching Sam closely. "Slowly, so slowly... it's like she was a half breed." Sam whispered before looking to her. "Your parents weren't really mates were they?" She asked her and I huffed and turned and started pacing. Why were all the secrets coming out now? "Of course they were." She said and I gulped when Courtney looked at me and I sighed. "They weren't." I stated and looked away when she turned on me. "You knew? You knew that mom and dad weren't mates?" She asked me advancing and I nodded. "Only when dad was going away. That's how mom was never charged." I told her and she narrowed her eyes. "We are going to have a long, real, talk when we go home." She told me jabbing my chest and I looked away. "Is she a half breed?" I heard Sam ask and I shrugged not even looking her way. "I'll take some blood and look." She sighed and walked out, her heels clicking and I watched her walk and then crouch near a portable doctor thing and opened a few drawers before standing back up and then walking back towards us. I looked over Rene's face and she seemed to flinch when the needle pierced her skin. "So she will heal right?" I asked noticing how Ian and Jack were still hovering. "In time." Sam sighed and started shaking the blood vials and leaving the little room yet again without looking at me. "Let's go then." I said and nodded to Ian and Jack. "I'll be back and I'll stay with her tonight. I want you to go home when I come back.. get some rest ok Courtney?" I asked her but I wasn't really asking her. She knew my tone and she sighed and looked at our sister before taking her hand and nodded at me. "We're just going to go outside. Grey and Aaron will be here shortly." Ian told me and I nodded and walked side by side with them all the way out the front door. "It's good to see you Sean." Jack told me and I nodded to him and then looked around. "We're really sorry that we couldn't protect Rene... but we did capture one of the rogues." He told me and I looked from him to Ian. "What's his name?" I asked and Jack laughed lightly before clearing his throat. "He is a she and she claims she wants to be queen." He told me and I growled and the another scent hit me and it was hybrid smells. I turned and saw Greyson and Aaron walking up and I smiled slightly at how they didn't look a day older than when I left. Whereas Ian defiantly aged and has gray hairs and Jack had grown a beard. "Look at you! 8 years later and you have muscles and slight facial hair?" Aaron asked coming closer and giving me a tight hug. I had been taller than her since I was in 10th grade. "You look good kid." Greyson told me with a smirk and came closer and pulled Aaron away from me slightly. "But I guess being King of Rogues does have it's perks." "By the way... you couldn't have waited to announce that to Courtney?" I asked looking to Ian and then Jack. "We thought she knew... but I guess no one knows." Ian said and I shook my head. "No one but my uncle. And you guys, how did you know anyways?" "You don't think we just let you leave do you? We have eyes on you at all times Sean. You're still pack." Ian told me and I crossed my arms and looked towards Aaron and Greyson. "So what happened with this girl who wants to be queen?" I asked them and Greyson huffed. "She was not fit. She and I went a few round with just words, I described some of my less brutal tactics and then pretended as if I would act on them and she spilled everything." He told me and I blinked just waiting. "She didn't really want to be queen, but someone does. She was told to say those things. Someone else defiantly wants your position." He told me and I growled and started pacing before the doors opened and I saw Sam walking out with her bag slung over her shoulder. "Heading out for the night Doc?" Ian asked and she looked up and at us before nodding. "The nurses will call me in if anything happens." She said and kept walking towards the street instead of the parking lot. "What about the tests?" I called out needing to know. "Won't be ready until tomorrow morning." She called out still walking away and I clenched my teeth. "You two still don't like each other huh?" Aaron asked and I laughed and rolled my eyes. "She wouldn't even look at him the entire time." Jack said with a laugh and I turned my laugh to a glare and he caught it. "Hit a nerve?" I growled and he smirked. "That looks familiar doesn't it little brother?" Greyson asked with a loud laugh and Ian let his mouth drop open. "Is she your mate?" Jack asked suddenly realizing what his brother and best friend realized. "Yeah." I muttered and sighed before looking back at the door. "I've been riding for 19 hours... I want to be with my sister for the night... I might not get any rest but I need to know she will get better." I said and looked at all of them. I might be the king of rogues but that didn't mean I had the right to tell an Alpha what to do. "Get some sleep. You look good but you need to eat... come over when you get some good news. I want to hear more about you." Aaron commanded and I just nodded to her and then looked back towards the front door. "Go on." She told me and pushed my shoulder a bit. "Are you going to stay until she gets better? Or for a while longer?" I heard Courtney ask and I walked even closer. "Until you all are safe, and she is better. And then we'll have to see." I told her honestly. "You're king of the rogues?" She asked me and I sat up and looked down at myself and then back at her and nodded and she sighed. "So you have to go back eventually." She told me almost cracking when she said 'back' and I walked closer to where she was sitting and then pulled her closer to me and hugged her to my chest. "Go home and get some rest. I will stay here for the night." I told her lifting her slightly and she sniffled and nodded again before going towards her bag. "Get a shower too." I told her and she sent me a small glare over her shoulder before walking out slowly. I sat where she had and pulled the chair closer and then moved to wrap my hand around hers. She was just 17, still in high school. My baby sister. "I am so sorry Rene, I should have been here." I told her and used my other hand to move a piece of hair from clinging to her neck. I started to tell her what happened after I left the pack and once I was yawning I fell asleep laying near her hand.
