Jacksons Point of View
I sat on the decking outside of the pack house peeling the label off of an empty bottle of beer. I had sent Jude off to seek out some more alcohol as I had already drunk what we had. I was fractionally more mellow than I had been a couple of hours ago but that wasn't saying much. My temper was frayed and I was hanging on to reason.
After Jude and I had finished training, I had tried everything I could think of to track down my mate. We'd gone through the kitchen, the laundry and the dining staff one by one. We'd gone to the pack hospital to see if I could smell any hint of her and we'd spoken to practically every female in the pack house. We got nothing! Whoever this wolf was had evaporated into thin air. Seth was absolutely crushed that she had managed to slip through our fingers. Whereas I was just pissed off and disappointed in myself. The future Alpha can't even find his mate! What a total Asshole.
Unexpectedly the scent that I'd been craving all day came crashing into me, almost knocking me off of my chair and onto my ass. My body felt like it was on fire, and my heart beat accelerated to a breakneck speed. It was the sweetest kind of torture I would ever experience. But where was she?
I was on my feet when the door to the front of the house swung open and there stood the source of the smell. Rose! My Rose!
'MINE' Seth Howled almost deafening me with the volume. I shot forward towards her, before planting my feet firmly on the ground. Seth was trying to get to her, to mark her. I thought we should at least acknowledge her first. Sadly my brain and my mouth didn't seem to be working together.
'You?' I asked her incredulously, which wasn't really the smooth intro I was hoping to give. My mind then shot off on a different tangent. Why had she not been in school today? Was she ok, was she sick?
She looked up at me with fear in her huge brown eyes. Did I scare her? Why? Her skin was abnormally pale, whatever was going on she was terrified. Tearing my gaze away from hers I took in the rest of her face. I almost lost my mind when I saw her bleeding. Her face was battered, blood was pouring from her nose and her left eye was starting to go black. I was as furious as I was devastated. How had I allowed this to happen? Why wasn't I with her this afternoon? Why hadn't I been with her for the last four years?
The door opened again and this time, her roommate, Henry stepped out. His eyes were so focused on Rose he didn't see me standing just three feet away. His eyeballs looked like they were going to pop right out of their sockets. He was livid, and his anger was fully directed at Rose. If he was responsible for her being hurt I would kill him on the spot.
"You can f*****g run, but you can't hide Rose." He sneered at her. How dare he talk to my mate like that. She was his future Luna. I stepped towards him with my claws extended, ready to rip out his heart and let him watch it beat its last. Until Rose started to fall and I darted forward to stop her from hitting the deck.
"Oh s**t!" I caught her when she was inches away from the floor.
"Rose? Rose? What the f**k did you do to her" I snarled at Henry.
"Nothing!" It was an obvious lie but I didn't have the time to call him out on it! I picked Rose up and carried her bridal style back into the house. It was becoming more and more difficult not to kill her roommate so I needed to put some distance between us.
The entrance hall was like a ghost town. Everyone that had been here an hour ago was nowhere to be seen. My father had probably ordered the staff to stay out of the way whilst the guests started to arrive. They would be here imminently, I needed to get Rose some help.
"Alpha, why don't I take Rose back to our room." Henry volunteered, he'd slithered in behind me without making a sound, just like a snake. His voice was strained and his fingers were twitching like he was playing air guitar. His behaviour was nothing short of manic. "You've got guests from other packs arriving soon, I'm sure you don't want to waste your time with the trash can kid"
My eyes turned black as Seth tried to break through with the sole intent of killing Henry "You will NEVER EVER touch her AGAIN" I roared at the top of my voice. "Now get the f**k out of here! I'll deal with you later!" Henry moved so fast he looked like he had a rocket up his ass!
I began to hear the crunch of gravel outside as cars pulled up outside of the pack house. The ranked wolves from other packs were arriving. I was supposed to meet my father here in a few minutes to greet them but I couldn't give a flying f**k about that right now. The only thing that mattered in my universe was the dark haired beauty in my arms.
There was no way I'd be able to get out of the main entrance without causing a massive scene and my Dad going ballistic. Whilst that didn't bother me in the slightest if he took it out on Rose I would never forgive myself. I bolted into the kitchen so that I could get her out of the back. The only thing of consequence in this moment was that Rose was treated and kept safe.
The head of the kitchen, who I think was called Alice, rushed towards us taking in the state of the girl in my arms
"Rose? Oh my Goddess Jackson what have you done?" Me? Why would she think it was me?
"Nothing I swear. I found her like this and I'm trying to help her."
Alice eyed me suspiciously, lips pursed. She didn't trust what I was telling her. Like a mother interrogating her daughter's unacceptable new boyfriend. She must care a lot for Rose.
"Please," I begged. "I just want to get her to the hospital, I don't think she's seriously injured but I need her to see a Doctor"
Something in my expression must have hit home because she nodded. "Out through the back door, if Alpha Cain asks we haven't seen you."
"Thank you. I promise I'll look after her."
"Make sure you do! She's not had an easy four years, and you are responsible for that." Alice scolded me. I felt awful. I nodded and ran her through the back kitchen and back outside. I used my full wolf speed to get her to the pack hospital as fast as I could.
As soon as I was through the entrance I headed straight towards Dr Richards' office and kicked open the door.
"What the hell?" he exclaimed, spinning around towards me whilst removing his half moon glasses. "You might be destined to run the pack Jackson Carter but you will treat this hospital with respect."
"Dr Richard's this is kind of an emergency!" I cut my eyes to the bleeding girl in my arms.
"Rose?" He looked at her for a few seconds more than necessary before trying to take her off of me. "I'll take it from here, Alpha Jackson."
"Like hell you will!" I growled, making him jump "No one will touch her without me being present."
The Doctor's eyes widened a fraction in surprise, but he said nothing.
"Follow me, we'll take her down to the Omega ward and get her admitted."
"I want her in our private rooms. She needs to be priority." And I needed to stay with her.
"Jackson if your father finds out-"
"He won't!" I cut him off. "No one else knows we're here. And if he finds out I will take full responsibility." He didn't look convinced. Time to change tack.
"Dr Richards, Rose is my fated mate. Her safety is my primary concern. If my father finds out he may very well kill her for being unranked. I don't care what he dishes out to me, but I won't let him harm a single hair on her head. So when I say I'll take full responsibility I mean it."
Dr Richards let out an enormous sigh. “Fine. But if this goes south, you can pay for my retirement, assuming I’ll be alive to enjoy it.”
My body sagged in relief. "Thanks Doc."
