Jacksons Point of View
I placed Rose onto the hospital bed whilst Doctor Richards busied himself with machines and monitors. The rational side of me knew that she wasn't badly hurt, but the other side of me was a nervous wreck. She was my gift from the Moon Goddess and she was hurt. I watched as the bruise around her eye went from a dark purple to an inky black. Her physical pain was causing me mental anguish. She looked so fragile and small in the hospital bed.
The good doctor pulled up each of her eyelids to check for concussion and that's when I noticed that the white of her injured eye was completely crimson.
"Subconjunctival haemorrhage" He commented. My anxiety levels shot through the roof before he explained further "Burst blood vessel to you." The relief that it was nothing more serious almost caused me to black out.
"She's got a nasty concussion and a broken nose." The nose I can fix without any major problems but she'll need to stay here for at least 72 hours so that she can be fully monitored.
"f**k" I said. She'd be in for the night of the party. There was no way I was going to be able to stay with her tomorrow evening without raising suspicion.
"We'll take good care of her Alpha, I guarantee you of that." I just nodded. Seth was whimpering in my mind. I envisioned him curled up like a baby waiting for the pain to pass. Because that's exactly what I'd be doing now. Instead I had some decisions to make about what the best way was to protect her.
"I need to take her for a head CT."
I growled with enough force to shake the windows.
"On second thoughts, we have a portable machine. I'll get someone to bring it down." He excused himself and left the room.
I slumped down in a vacant chair and put my head between my knees. I was finding it hard to breathe and if I didn't get my s**t together I would be no good to her. I took some deep breaths. 'She's ok, man. She's ok' I repeated this to Seth and myself until I was sure that I could handle opening my eyes again. I took her tiny hand in between my own. She made a small humming noise in the back of her throat. My touch was bringing her some comfort. She might not feel that way when she woke up so I decided to enjoy this minor win.
"Rose-" I stopped. I had wanted to call her by her full name. But I had no idea what it was. I rummaged around in my brain and thought back to our daily conversations from when we were younger. I knew it was beautiful, unique, but I couldn't get the name to form on my tongue. I let go of her hand so that I could clench and unclench my fists. I had a real fiery temper sometimes and this was one thing I used to try and get a handle on it.
"Come back to me" She whispered, stretching her hand out to find mine. The sound of that voice spoke to my soul and soothed me from the inside out. I gently grabbed her hand again but this time used my other hand to stroke her forehead tenderly. Her mouth turned up very slightly at the corners, making me smile in turn. 'She's ok man, she's ok'
The door reopened and Dr. Richards reappeared.
"Alpha Jackson, I know you don't want to hear this but there are at least 15 extremely expensive cars parked outside the front of the main house."
Shit!
"I need to give Rose this head scan and get that muzzle fixed. It might be time for you to take your leave."
'JACKIE!! I don't know where the f**k you are but you better get your ass back her now with the best explanation in the world!'
I winced as my fathers order rang through my head.
"I can't leave her," I said, trying to swallow the huge lump that had formed in my throat.
"Son, you can't stay either." Dr. Richards was looking at me with nothing but sympathy in his eyes. He'd never looked at me that way before. He'd always had me pegged as an Alpha wanna be, and he wasn't completely off base.
I let out a deep breath and took a few steps away from my mate. It was agony but I had to protect her.
'Jude?' I linked my Beta.
'Alpha? What the hell's the matter' No doubt he could hear the distressed edge to my thoughts.
'I can't explain that now. You need to get over to the Hospital. Room one. The wolf in this bed is your number one priority. If anyone other than medical staff enter the room, you kill them on sight! You understand?'
'Yes chief. I'm on my way'
'Go through the back door in the Kitchen. No one is to know where you are. You are the only person I would ever trust with this Jude. Please don't let me down.'
'You have my word Alpha'
I relayed my plans to the Doctor. I kissed Rose delicately on the forehead and then slipped out of the door.
On the way out of the hospital I stole a quick glance at my reflection in one of the glass doors. I had Rose's blood down my shirt and on my sneaks. I'd figured out a plan of what to tell my guests and the fact that I looked a mess would work in my favour.
"Here he is!" My father boomed in his loud social voice as I got through the door. He wore a huge smile but his eyes told me he was furious. "Honestly Jackie we thought we were going to have to send out a search party."
"I apologise Alpha, and to everyone else here who has been kind enough to give me some extra time with them this evening. I'm afraid one of our she-wolves was attacked and I took it upon myself to take her to the hospital. My father has always encouraged me to be fully involved in our pack, and not just for the celebrations, but for the tough times too."
"Here, here" murmered a couple of the Alpha's and Beta's. The daughters of the ranked wolves started making cooing noises and batting their eye lashes in my direction.
"You are turning into a very wise young man, Jackson" My father sniffed, making out that my words had caught him emotionally off guard.
"Ladies, Gentlemen," I continued. "If I could leave you with my father for just a few more minutes, I'd like to head upstairs and change into something less bloody."
This earned me a few chuckles. My father was smiling at me, but it wasn't sincere and he looked like he was in pain.
"I think that's an excellent idea." My mother chimed in from across the room. She looked absolutely perfect and her flawless makeup showed no trace of the horrendous slashes to her face. "If you'd like to follow me, we've got welcome drinks for you all."
Everyone followed my mother with the exception of my Dad.
"What the hell happened Jackie? And which she-wolf was it. It better not be someone high ranked! Everyone of importance needs to be at this dinner tonight!"
"Relax Dad." I said, giving him a fake smile of my own "It was one of the useless laundry omega's. I yelled at her for not having my shirt ready. She was frightened enough to fall and stupidly smashed her face on the floor. I dragged her back up before I saw that she was bleeding. Everyone else was already dressed and the last thing they needed was their clothes wrecked. Dr Richards is patching her up on the Omega ward. She'll be fixed up in the next few hours. Don't worry I've already fired her!"
My Father seemed to accept this. "Well, Jackie boy, it looks like you might just be able to take on the mantle after all."
"And that's not all Dad." I said with a cruel smile. "I have reason to believe that one of the male omigas here has a drug problem and is stealing from us to feed his addiction. I've got Jude investigating right now. He'll need to be excused from dinner, but if what I say is correct you can decide whether to deal with this publicly or privately."
I watched as an evil smirk slithered onto my fathers face. I tried my best to mirror it.
"Very impressive Jackie. Very impressive indeed. Now go wash up, you look like s**t and you're a total embarrassment to me"
