Chapter 2 - Let's talk

After just sitting and cuddling for a while, we decided to get up and dance. We are supposed to be enjoying the night, so we might as well celebrate and enjoy everything. Looking around, I can see my sister is dancing up close with a very nice looking man. Hopefully she found her mate as well. How great would that be? I can't help but stare at Jack as we dance he is so very nice looking. I sure hope he doesn't mind I am a little curvy. I have tried many times not to be, especially since most werewolves are very slim and muscular. I mean he doesn't seem to mind by the way he keeps looking at me.

Back to how gorgeous my mate is. He is at least six feet tall with short black hair and the most beautiful brown eyes I have ever seen. They have these beautiful golden flakes in them. He is wearing a very well put together suit that seems to have been tailored to him because of the way it lays across his hard body, showing that he is muscular but not in a huge way. Maybe more like a runner or a swimmer that I sometimes see on TV.

After dancing for a while, he asks if I would like to meet his Alpha. Soon to be my Alpha as well I suppose. Smiling and nodding my head, I can't help but feel shy as we approached this huge man that I am guessing would be the Alpha. He towers over everyone here. He has to be almost seven feet tall with arms the size of my legs, which is saying something since I am a bit curvy. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Beside him stands a woman the same height as me and ... oh my god she is curvy as well. I am so happy I won't be the only one. I can't help but beam a smile at her.

"Good evening Beta Jack, did you find your mate tonight?" the man asks, smiling down at me.

"I sure did." Jack said, smiling "Alpha, Luna, this is Ava, my mate. Ava, this is our Alpha Alexander, and Luna Izzy."

Luna Izzy squeals and jumps straight at me, giving me the warmest hug I think I have ever had.

"I'm so glad Jack finally found his mate, now I won't have to hear him whine all the time about us being lovey dovey." She said chuckling as she teases Jack.

"I'm very happy to meet you, Alpha Alexander and Luna Izzy. I can't wait to join the pack and start our lives together. I said, blushing, couldn't help but feel shy.

"Well, we can't wait to finally have our Beta female. Let us be the first to welcome you to our pack." Alpha Alexander said, shaking my hand. "You two should run off and enjoy the celebration. We can work everything out later. You will be coming back to the pack with Jack, won't you?"

"We haven't spoken about it yet, but yes, that is my hope." I answered shyly.

Smiling Jack speaks up "Ummm yes I am sure that is what we will do." I watch as his face grows impassive, which causes me to frown slightly.

Judging by his answer, I have to wonder if maybe there is something he isn't telling me, but obviously, we haven't had much time to talk about anything. I can tell there is a conversation going on between them through mindlink because everyone suddenly has a grim look that quickly leaves.

The Alpha clears his throat. "You two should go have some fun. We can discuss everything later like I said. Again, welcome to the pack Ava. We are happy to have you."

"Thank you Alpha, I will do my best."

As we walked away, I can't help but glance up at Jack and see he still has a grim expression on his face.

"Ummm is everything ok Jack?" I asked as I grew more concerned.

"Yea.. Yes, of course, what could possibly be wrong? I found my beautiful mate and we have accepted each other. I couldn't be happier." He said, taking my hand in his and kissing my fingers. "Come on, let's get some of this wonderful food and then wander around a bit so we can get to know each other better. Sound ok to you?"

"Yes, of course, that sounds like a great idea."

After, we ate some of the food and I introduced him to my sister Shelly, who also found her mate. We headed off to walk around the grounds and get to know one another.

"So tell me a little about yourself Jack. What kinds of things do you enjoy?"

"Well, I enjoy working out and training. But mostly I really like to read and just enjoy the quiet evenings. What about you? Tell me about ... your family. I met your sister but there was no mention of parents."

I can't help the deep frown that takes over my face at the mention of my parents as tears threaten to fall. I turned away from him. The last thing I wanted him to think is that I am some super emotional woman who wants a lot of attention.

Stopping, he stepped in front of me. "Is something wrong Ava, did I say or do something to upset you?

All I could do was shake my head for a moment while I reined in my emotions the best I could. I know I need to tell him he is my mate and there is no point in trying to hide things. I just didn't want to touch on this subject so quickly. I was hoping for a day or two but I guess it's a very normal question to ask.

"You don't have to tell me. If you don't want to its ok I can wait. I didn't mean to upset you."

Looking up, I can see the concern on his face. I might as well get this over with, get it together, Ava, and stop being a baby.

"My parents died when I was 15....in a car accident. Shelly raised me since then." I said, looking away from him.

"Oh, Ava, I'm so sorry I had no idea, I would never have asked if I even suspected."

Waving him off, "No it's perfectly fine, it just ... it still hurts that's all, knowing they won't be here for my mating ceremony or any kids we might have." Realizing what I said, knowing we haven't even discussed any of this, I quickly add "That is if we decide to have kids you know since we haven't discussed any of this. Anyways, it's fine. I'm fine."

"Of course, I want children with you. But I am truly sorry about your parents. I couldn't even imagine it myself."

"How about you? Any siblings, parents?"

"Nope, just me and yes, my parents are alive. They went traveling after I became the Beta last year. It's something mom always wanted to do, so dad promised when he retired to take her all over the world. They are currently in Belize and mom seems to be having the time of her life. Dad, on the other hand...not so much. But they will both be very happy that I found my mate." he said, smiling.

"That's great. It sounds like they are having a lot of fun. Do you mind if I ask you something?"

"Sure, go ahead. You can ask me anything."

"Earlier, when you all were mind linking what was that all about?"

He visibly stiffened for a moment before saying "Oh that was nothing, just some pack business, nothing to worry about."

"I hate to do this, but judging by your reaction every time it's brought up, I don't think your telling the truth." I said, stopping and putting my hands on my hips. I'm not letting this go. I have a feeling it might affect me. "You might want to just come out and say it or I will simply just go home tonight while you figure out that being honest with your mate is a must. I won't start this relationship this way. So the options are for you just to come out with it..or I'll go home till you figure out what your priorities are."

I turned and started back to the ball, no way am I going in blind. He doesn't want to share what's going on? I will just remove myself from the equation. I have no idea if he will come after me or not, but I have heard enough horror stories that I am not going in blind. When there is obviously something he doesn't want me to know.
