Chapter 3Madoc stared at the letter in his hand. Free Mail was written on the envelope. Sitting down on one of the chairs in his kitchen, he picked up a knife and carefully cut it open. His hands shook, which was uncalled for, but a voice in his mind screamed that he was touching something Levi had held in his hands not too long ago. Looking around his empty kitchen to make sure no one had sneaked in while he wasn’t watching, he brought the envelope to his nose and inhaled—paper. It didn’t smell anything like Levi. Of course, it wouldn’t smell of Levi. Several people had touched it after he’d parted ways with it. He grimaced. He’d just smelled a piece of paper that could be crawling with germs. Tearing it open, he read the greeting and dropped it on the kitchen table. Could he read it?
