Eunice

“What are you doing here in our territory?” Mitch asked as we met MiZa. We all stood up right in front of four women wearing black masks and black fitted overalls. I could cringe at their costume. As a matter of fact, Nanette is already snorting at them. “What are you laughing at, Dipper?” M asked as she gritted her teeth. We have faced this same gang before but I still don’t understand why their codenames are literally the letters of their gang name. Or was it the other way around? Nanette shook her head. “You all look like a downgrade of Catwoman,” she replied that made all the members of MiZa to scowl at her. Z was already about to throw her a knife if not for Mona throwing a stone on Z’s wrist making her drop the weapon. Mitch cursed. “Are you seriously armed?” she asked in disbelief. A laughed. “Are you seriously dumb?” she asked. “Are you seriously that weak?” I spoke and A growled at me. A shook her head. “I, take her now,” she ordered and I lunged at me. She was already inches from me before I punched her in the gut making her double over. “I!” her members all screamed her codename. Nanette whistled and that was already the start of the rumble. To be honest, I don’t even know why we’re doing this right now. We have beaten MiZa a lot of times now. I don’t know why they’re always sending us invitations when they already know what they’ll end up to next. Three of the members are already down while Mona and Z were still at it. Nanette was about to help but Mitch stopped her. Mona and Z have been fighting from the beginning of our encounter. Z had always been the best fighter in MiZa but she’s nothing near Mona. Mona is wise. She knows how to expend her energy. She knows how to start and finish a fight. And this was nothing but a repetition of all the failed attempts of Z to beat her. Mona never loses—at least not to this kind of opponent. Mona elbowed Z’s back and that ended it. Nanette sighed and Mitch shook her head. “Why do we always end up wasting our time whenever we meet them?” Mitch asked. I was wondering about that too. I don’t really know why they’re so obsessed with beating us. Nanette stared at A in disgust. “Please practice more,” she said. “So you won’t always end up in a hospital bed.” We all walked out and decided to call it a wasted night. ~*~ “Why do I need to do this?” I asked Mom as we arrived at a ballroom hall. Mom was giddy while she accompanied me inside. I already knew what this is. She’s already told me last night that she and Josiah’s mom has already agreed that me and Josiah attend a dance school so we’d have a perfect first dance. When she told me that, I almost cursed at her. Is it not yet enough that I am going to marry the man I don’t love that I needed to attend stupid dance lessons with him, too? “Your wedding with Josiah is going to make headlines, Eunice. We invited the media so you need to have a perfect first dance as a married couple,” she explained with a hint of a little scolding. I sighed and shook my head—trying to calm myself because of this ridiculous idea. There are women who greeted us and led us towards a room. In there, I already saw Mrs. Kim and Josiah sitting down. He looks like he’s only been dragged here by force, well, like me. When he saw me, he immediately clenched his jaw and gave me a death stare. I could still remember the last time we talked. He was so pissed off because I went home and didn’t tell him that I was done with the dress fitting. I don’t really understand why he’s so pressed about it. If I were he, I would thank myself because I was wise enough to not bother me anymore. Mrs. Kim was so happy to see me. She hugged me and kissed me on the cheek. “It’s so good to see you again, Eunice,” she said in a wide smile. I smiled back. “Same here, Mrs. Kim,” I replied. She giggled and looked at my mother who also greeted Josiah. I raised my brow when Josiah politely greeted my mother back. At least he is not disrespectful. Josiah narrowed his eyes at me. I can sense that he wants to say something but he chose to just shut his mouth. That’s good, because I feel like anything that would come from his mouth right now would piss the elders off. “We’ll have to get going,” Mrs. Kim said as she clung onto my mother’s arm. My eyes widened when I saw my mother smiling widely at Josiah and me. “The organizers found some florists so we need to check them out,” she told me and Mrs. Kim nodded. “Mom?” I called her in disbelief. “Eunice, you need to practice with your fiancé,” Mom said. Mrs. Kim nodded. “He’s going to drive you to school right after, don’t worry.” What? As if that’s one of my many worries right now?! “Bye!” the two already left in a blink. Damn, I haven’t even retaliated yet! I took a deep breath and relaxed all the surging emotions inside me. I shouldn’t have agreed to this in the first place! I shouldn’t have been so bothered by my conscience. Damn it! “Let’s get going,” I heard Josiah tell me. I looked at him in disbelief. “Are you seriously fine with this?!” Well, I couldn’t believe him. He has a girlfriend and he’s here with me, a stranger, for this dance lesson. If I had a boyfriend, I would have not agreed to this! Josiah lazily looked at me. “I am not fine with this,” he said. “But do any of us have a choice now? If you want to back out, that would be fine with me, too. It would be very fine, my fiancée.” I pursed my lips in a thin line and sighed. Damn it. “You shouldn’t have agreed to this in the first place!” I couldn’t stop my burst. I am so stressed by this whole scenario. Josiah looked at me. He’s probably confused because this is the first time that I yelled at him. I don’t really let my emotions get the best of me but this is becoming so frustrating now that the wedding is getting near. I sighed and looked away. “Damn it,” I muttered under my breath as I sat on the empty stool at the corner. I messed my hair and continued uttering curses inside my mind. This is so annoying! Everything is so annoying. I could feel Josiah sitting beside me. He didn’t speak but I can feel that he’s trying to understand what I am doing. I shut my eyes and leaned my head on the wall behind the stool. “I shouldn’t have agreed to this,” I mumbled. I heard Josiah sighing. “So, why did you?” I looked at him. “I already told you. I don’t want to fail my parents,” I replied. “Why did you agree to this when you have a girlfriend?” He shrugged and rested his elbows on his either of his knees. “I don’t want my mom to throw my girlfriend out of the country…” he trailed. I looked at him and gasped. “Why would she do that?” What the hell? He chuckled weakly. “She doesn’t like Hannah,” he confessed. “Actually, not even one person around me likes her for me.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Where’s all the hate coming from?” He glanced at me and shook his head. “I don’t know. Maybe it’s because they don’t see the good in her like I do.” I nodded. He played with his fingers as he looked so sunken and sullen at the same time. “What happens to the two of you after this marriage?” I asked. Of course, if Josiah’s married, Hannah—I’m guessing that’s the name of the girl—would not want to continue their relationship. Because who wants that? Who wants to have a boyfriend that’s married? That’s against the law of God. Josiah looked at me and shrugged. “I don’t know. It would be up to her,” he replied in a lonely voice. I sighed. Now, I feel guiltier. I feel like I’m the reason why his relationship could end. Why did I have to agree to this again? “I’m sorry…” I told him. He narrowed his eyes at me. “What for?” I shrugged. “For agreeing to this marriage and possibly ruining your relationship?” He smirked. “Eunice, this would push through whether you like it or not,” he said. “Our parents are so desperate to merge the companies so they will do whatever they can to push this through.” I bit my lip and sighed in defeat. He’s right. No one know what desperation can do to people. “Therefore, we’re screwed,” I said. “Yeah,” he replied, sighing in dejection.
