Chapter 25 I won't dare to interrupt you again

1340 Words
"Mr. Lu, don't you know table manners?" she asked, her voice sharp with disapproval. The servants gasped, their eyes wide with shock. Dr. Ryder's eyebrows shot up, his face a picture of surprise. Lugard's expression didn't change, but his thumbs paused for a moment before continuing to type... The room fell silent, the only sound the soft hum of the air conditioning. Lisa's words hung in the air, a challenge to Lugard's behavior. The servants' eyes darted back and forth, their faces pale with discomfort. Dr. Ryder leaned back in his chair, a mixture of amusement and curiosity on his face. "Well, Lugard, it seems you've been called out," he said, his voice light. Lugard's expression still didn't change, but his thumbs slowed, then stopped. He looked up, his eyes meeting Lisa's. For a moment, they stared at each other, the tension between them palpable. Then, Lugard's gaze dropped back to his phone, his thumbs starting to move again. "I'm busy," he muttered, his voice dismissive. Lisa's face burned with anger, her eyes flashing with indignation. "Busy?" she repeated, her voice rising. "You're too busy to even acknowledge us? To even eat your food?" The servants gasped again, their eyes wide with shock. Dr. Ryder leaned forward, his hands clasped together. "Lisa, perhaps—" But Lisa cut him off, her words tumbling out in a rush. "No, Dr. Ryder, I won't let it go. This is ridiculous. He's being rude and inconsiderate, and someone needs to tell him." Lugard ignored her, his eyes fixed on the screen as he continued typing away emotionlessly. Lisa's words seemed to bounce right off him, without leaving any impact. His face remained impassive, his expression a mask of indifference. Lisa's anger turned to frustration, her eyes flashing with annoyance. She couldn't believe Lugard's behavior, his complete disregard for her feelings. She felt like she was talking to a brick wall, her words falling on deaf ears. Dr. Ryder cleared his throat, trying to intervene. "Lugard, perhaps you should take a break from your phone. We're trying to have a conversation here." But Lugard didn't even flinch, his thumbs moving swiftly over the screen. Lisa threw up her hands in exasperation, her chair scraping against the floor as she stood up. "Fine," she said, her voice tight with anger. "If you're going to ignore me, then I'm not going to waste my time trying to talk to you." Lisa stormed towards Lugard, her eyes blazing with anger, her face set in a determined expression. The room fell silent, the servants' eyes wide with shock, as she marched up to Lugard and snatched the phone from his hand. Dr. Ryder's mouth dropped open, his eyes fixed on Lisa in amazement. "Well, I'll be..." he muttered, his voice trailing off in shock. Lugard's face turned black with rage, his eyes flashing with anger. He looked like he was about to explode, his body tense, his fists clenched. Lisa stood her ground, her chest heaving with anger, the phone clutched in her hand. "You're being rude and disrespectful," she spat, her voice trembling with fury. "You're ignoring us, ignoring me, and it's not acceptable." The room was electric with tension, the air thick with unspoken words. Lugard's eyes seemed to bore into Lisa's soul, his gaze intense, his anger palpable. Lisa felt cold run down her spine by his intense gaze on her. Dr. Ryder finally found his voice, his words barely above a whisper. "Lisa, perhaps you should..." But Lisa cut him off, her voice firm. "No, Dr. Ryder. I won't let him get away with this. He needs to learn some manners." Lugard's face twisted in anger, his eyes flashing with fury. For a moment, it seemed like he was going to lunge at Lisa, his body tense, his fists clenched. But then, he seemed to regain control, his face smoothing out, his eyes narrowing into slits. The servants gasped, their eyes wide with fear, as they thought Lugard was about to harm Lisa. But instead, he spoke in a cold, detached tone, his voice sending shivers down their spines. "Give me back my phone," he said, his eyes fixed on Lisa's hand, his gaze icy. Lisa hesitated, her grip on the phone tightening. For a moment, it seemed like she was going to defy him, but then she seemed to think better of it. With a snort of disgust, she handed the phone back to Lugard. Lugard's face didn't change, his expression still cold, still detached. He took the phone from Lisa, his fingers brushing against hers, but he didn't flinch. He simply put the phone back in his pocket, his eyes never leaving Lisa's face. The room was silent, the tension palpable. The servants were frozen in place, their eyes fixed on Lugard, waiting for his next move. Dr. Ryder seemed to be holding his breath, his eyes darting back and forth between Lugard and Lisa. Lisa, however, seemed to be unafraid. She stood her ground, her eyes flashing with anger, her chest heaving with indignation. She seemed to be daring Lugard to do something, to react, but Lugard just stood there, his face cold, his eyes icy. Lisa's expression changed in an instant, her anger melting away, replaced by a bright, radiant smile. Her crystal-clear eyes sparkled, her face lighting up with a warm, gentle glow. She looked up at Lugard, her eyes pleading, her voice sweet and melodious. "Please, can you eat? You can continue with your handsome phone later," she said, her words dripping with sweetness. "I won't dare to interrupt you again, I promise." Ryder's eyes widened in surprise, his face a picture of confusion. He couldn't understand Lisa's sudden mood swing, her rapid transition from anger to sweetness. The servants were equally perplexed, their faces pale, their eyes darting back and forth between Lisa and Lugard. They seemed to be trembling, their bodies tense, as if they were waiting for something to happen. Lugard's eyes furrowed in confusion, his brow creasing in a frown. He looked at Lisa, his expression unreadable, his gaze intense. For a moment, it seemed like he was searching for something, trying to understand her sudden change in behavior. Then, his face smoothed out, his expression returning to its usual calm, collected mask. He nodded, his voice low and smooth. "Very well," he said. "I'll eat." The servants breathed a collective sigh of relief, their bodies relaxing, their faces still pale. Ryder shook his head, his eyes still fixed on Lisa, his expression puzzled. Lisa, however, seemed to be triumphant, her smile still shining bright, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Lugard sat down in his chair, his movements economical, his expression still calm and collected. He picked up his fork, his eyes fixed on his plate, and began to eat. But it was clear that he wasn't enthusiastic about his food, his movements mechanical, his bites small. The servants exchanged nervous glances, their faces still pale from the earlier confrontation. They knew that Lugard was a picky eater and that he didn't always like what was put in front of him. But they also knew that when he was angry, it was best to just let him be. Lisa, however, seemed oblivious to the tension. She sat down in her own chair, her eyes fixed on Lugard, a look of concern on her face. "Is everything okay?" she asked, her voice soft. "You're not eating much." Lugard didn't respond, his eyes fixed on his plate. The servants held their breath, waiting for him to explode again. But he just kept eating, his movements slow, his expression unchanging. Dr. Ryder leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed on Lugard, a look of curiosity on his face. He seemed to be studying him, trying to understand what made him tick. The room was silent, the only sound the clinking of silverware against plates. The tension was palpable, the air thick with unspoken words. But Lugard just kept eating, his face a mask, his emotions hidden.
