Michelles POV
“You can’t keep doing this Charles! I can’t let you keep hurting us like this!”
This is pretty much what I always wake up to.
My parents fight like cats and dogs. My father is a functioning alcoholic, and my mother loves him.
They’ve been together since high school. He’s the only man she’s ever been with. They dated through high school, and married right after college.
Somewhere along the line he picked up drinking. The more he drank the more abusive he became towards my mother.
She always made sure I was out of harms way. I hated that. I hated how he had beaten the light from her eyes.
She had become almost like a zombie. She would pretend everything’s okay & push herself to smile for me, but I could see the hurt in her eyes.
My mother has always been beautiful. She had a small frame, long slender legs with a cinnamon complexion. She had beautiful chestnut brown curly hair. I would always play with it as a kid.
She had hazel brown chestnut shaped eyes & a smile that could like up a room.
She would joke to me that all the guys wanted her in school, but her freshman year when she crossed eyes with my father she knew he was the one for her.
Her eyes would always darken when she would tell me this story now. So I made sure I stopped asking her to tell me the story of how they met.
If I could just get her to leave him. I know our gray skies will be cleared.
