Chapter 7: new plan

639 Words
Sadie’s grandma woke up to the quiet of the countryside, but something felt off. The absence of Sadie’s cheerful chatter from the previous day weighed heavily on her. She tried calling Sadie’s phone, but it went straight to voicemail. A growing sense of dread spurred her into action. She began calling Sadie’s friends and neighbors, but no one had seen her. After exhausting all other options, she dialed the local police station. The officer on the line listened to her distress and promised to look into it. An hour later, the police called back with surprising news. They had recently detained a girl who matched Sadie’s description due to an incident involving Jake. The officer provided the address where the girl had been held, urging her to go there immediately. With her heart pounding, Sadie’s grandma drove to Jake’s house. The drive felt endless, each passing moment deepening her anxiety. When she finally arrived, she found Jake standing on the porch, a smirk playing on his lips. “Here you go,” Jake said, casually handing over Sadie and Serena, as if it was an everyday occurrence. His nonchalance only added to her unease. Sadie and Serena looked exhausted but unharmed. Sadie’s grandma took them by the shoulders, leading them towards the car. First, she dropped Serena off at her home, making sure she was safely inside before driving back with Sadie. Once they were home, the tension was palpable. Sadie’s grandma couldn’t hold back her frustration any longer. “Sadie, what on earth happened?” she demanded, her voice sharp with worry. “And where have you been? Why didn’t you tell me?” Sadie looked down, avoiding her grandmother’s gaze. The silence was heavy as her grandma continued to scold and question her, but Sadie’s responses were minimal and evasive. Finally, overwhelmed and unable to bear the interrogation, Sadie turned and walked away towards her room. The door closed behind her with a soft click, leaving her grandma standing alone, her frustration and concern mingling into a knot of unresolved emotions. The house seemed eerily quiet as she tried to piece together what had transpired. Despite the ongoing tension at home, Sadie felt a pressing need to talk about what had happened with Serena. Determined, she went back to Serena’s house. Serena greeted her with a mixture of relief and concern. They quickly found a quiet spot to talk. “Hey,” Serena began cautiously. “I’m glad you came by. I was starting to worry about you.” Sadie nodded, her expression serious. “I needed to talk. What happened with Jake? What’s the deal with this event?” Serena took a deep breath. “So, Jake isn’t the one who invited us. We kind of manipulated our way into getting invitations. There’s this big event he’s hosting, and we managed to get ourselves on the guest list to keep an eye on him.” Sadie’s eyebrows furrowed. “What’s the plan?” Serena smiled, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “We need to come up with a way to make sure the event doesn’t go as planned. Maybe something that exposes him for what he’s done or causes a disruption.” Sadie felt a flicker of determination. “Let’s do it. We need to show him that he can’t just get away with everything.” They spent the rest of the afternoon brainstorming ideas. The conversation flowed easily, the familiar camaraderie between them rekindling as they plotted their plan. They were determined to turn the tables and make sure Jake faced some consequences for his actions. By the time Sadie left Serena’s house, she felt a renewed sense of purpose. Despite the ongoing tension with her grandma, she was ready to take action and confront Jake, knowing she wasn’t alone in this fight.
