Abigail's POV seven years ago... "Abby we have to get going if we are going to make it to the party on time. I have a date and I don't want to miss out on anything." Linda said to me. I am not even sure if I should go to this college party. I had promised my mother that I would be a good girl, that I would read my Bible and keep my head down. When I made that promise I thought that I was going to keep it. That was before I met Linda, my roommate who is also a party animal. This is our second year in law school and I can't believe how much I have changed. When I came here last year I was not the person I am right now. I was a good girl. I went to class and kept my head down like my mama told me to do. I had a lot of work so I didn't even mind that I was spending all my time in my dorm room with my head in my books. I had worked very hard to be where I am today. I was here on a scholarship and I couldn't afford to mess anything up. My mother is proud that I had made it here. My mother had me when she was very young. Her parents wanted her to give me up for adoption, they said that having a child would ruin her life, not having my father in the picture was not helping the situation. After my mother told my father that she was pregnant, she never saw him again. After she refused to give me up for adoption, her parents kicked her out of their house, they said that she had brought shame in their house. They could not accept me as their grandchild and that is why it has always been just us two. I was the only child and I didn't have a problem with that. I was also an introvert. I didn't like being around people so I never really made friends. Well that was until I got here and met Linda. Now every weekend is party weekend. I am still not much of a drinker but I love going on these college parties. Linda said that I should get a boyfriend, well she was specific about who I should be dating. I was young, I was dumb and I should have known better. She said that I should be with Greyson, I wouldn't mind because he is so handsome but the problem is that every other girl wanted to be with him. A lot of girls who had it way much better than I did. Girls who wore designer clothes and drove sports cars to campus, girls who are popular, basically, girls on his level. I had never even seen a push up bra till Linda got me one. Coming to think of it, maybe Greyson would be better with someone like Linda, I mean she beautiful and she's loaded. Most of the clothes I have in my closet are her hand me downs. When we started to live together she told me that I dressed like a sixty year old woman. looking back at the way I look right now, she was right. My mother is a catholic woman and she has her own rules especially about how I dressed. Nothing above the knees was unacceptable to her. So was wearing something that showed off my arms, I think that now you're getting the picture of how I used to dress. "I don't know... I mean maybe I should change. I think this dress is too short." I said as I took a look at myself in the mirror. I didn't know what to wear so Linda picked out an outfit for me. I might have made a mistake by asking for her help because right now I can see all the way to the promised land in this dress, the fact that I am wearing a thong is not making things any easier for me. I wonder how my mother would react if she saw me wearing a thong. She would probably think that I was possessed. I am sure she would even tell me that law school was changing me. She would be right about that one, I had changed. "Abby you look good, you want Grey to have eyes only for you tonight so this is perfect." She said with a smile. "Tell me again why I agreed to this again?" I asked her. "Because the most handsome guy in school asked to have a dance with you, I mean all the girls basically throw themselves at him but he asked for you, surely that must count for something." She said. "I guess you are right." I said and took another look at myself in the mirror. She was right about one thing though, this dress was going to get a lot of attention. "I mean what if he tries to kiss me?" I asked Linda. "Then you kiss him back, I know you are a virgin but you must have kissed a few guys..." She said. Well I only told her half the truth about my life life. Well the truth is that I had zero experience with guys. I had never been with any guy so I have never kissed anyone. "OMG! You have never kissed anyone have you?" She asked me with a smile on her face. I was blushing. "Well Mama said boys are evil and that they would ruin my life, I basically stayed away from guys." I said. "Well you were dressing like an old armish lady so I believe you, don't worry. If he kisses you then go with the flow, you lips will know what to do." She said. Well she was right about that one. We went to the party and things were great. I told him that I was a virgin, it just slipped out and I thought that he would run away but he stayed. He said that I was special and that he respected my choices. The following weeks were amazing. I was dating a senior that every girl wanted to be with and he chose me.I was over the moon. My popularity at the school went over the roof. After a couple of months I was ready to move our relationship to the next level and we moved to third base. The s*x was amazing and I couldn't have enough of him. Pretty soon it was time for graduation, Grey was getting his law degree whilst I had to stay for two more years to get mine. He left me with the promise to keep in touch, that was the last time I saw him. The first few weeks where the hardest. I missed him dearly. He never called or wrote. I would jump at the phone everytime it rang. After a couple of months I stopped hoping that he would call me. I accepted my fate and moved on with my life, it was hard but it had to be done. Although Mama was disappointed in some of my choices, she stood by me and supported me. I took some time off school but I finally got my degree. I worked for the government for few years and now I was ready for the corporate world. Present Time... I had been trying to get into corporate law for about two years now. I am good at my job so I thought that it would be easy to get a job, boy was I wrong. Despite my experience every company I applied to wanted me to start at Junior level. I was ready to give up hope when I saw an email in my inbox a few days ago about an interview. I must admit that it was a long shot. I sent my resume at that company with no promises that I might even get an interview. Working at Legal Dome was only but a dream. I don't know who the CEO is but I know that it the most successful law firm in the country. Working there would certainly change my life for the better. I had to send money to Mama every month and this job could set me up for life. Living in a big city like New York is no joke, the competition I tough out here. It's a concrete jungle and every day is survival of the fittest. Today I get to have a chance to fight for my own place. I had an interview with one of the Junior partners. There was a position they had to fill in. I am sure that they had a lot of highly qualified professionals with more experience they could hire and the fact that they even considered me for a position was unbelievable. "Miss Brown we are ready for you." I young woman came to fetch from the waiting room. I had been sitting here nervous about my interview. My nerves were not getting any better. This office was beautiful and sophisticated. I loved how big and spacious the offices were. At my last job I didn't have an office of my own. I had a cubicle and so did ninety percent of the staff. Offices were for senior staff only. This job came with a lot of perks. I will have my own office, my own parking space, I will have an allowance for a house and I will be getting a company car, first I had to pass the interview. "Mr Jones will be conducting your interview today, go to through there and take a sit, he will be with you shortly." She said and left me. I took a deep breathe I walked to where she has pointed. I entered the door and saw a huge table, there was also a huge screen. I guess it's safe to say that this was the boardroom. I went to the table and I took a seat. Shortly after that someone came in with a tray and put it in the table. "Coffee?" She asked me. "Please..." I said with a smile. She poured me coffee and left soon after. Finally the door opened again and a man came in. He was wearing a three piece suit, the very expensive ones. "Good morning, I am Jackson Jones and I will be conducting your interview." He said and gave me his hand. I took the hand gave him a firm shake. "I am Abigail Brown..." I said with a smile. "Good to meet you Abigail." He said and went to take a seat at the head of the table. "Relax, I have seen your resume' and I am impressed, this is just a formality." He said with a smile. I watched him take the file in his hands. He went through it and I got nervous with every page he turned. I didn't even know what he was looking at. "It says here that you went to Harvard?" he asked me. "Yes I did, I got a full scholarship." I said proudly. "Well you are exactly what this company needs. Now tell me about yourself, what would your presence bring for us." He asked me. "Well this is already a well established company, the clients are happy because you haven't lost a case so far and neither have I, I plan to maintain the company's high standard of always being the best I can be and I also hope to learn a lot as well. I might have went to Harvard but I am pretty sure that I still have a lot to learn. I am driven and passionate about what I do, this will be an opportunity for me to take this company higher than it has ever been before." I said with a smile. "Well that is all I need to hear. Mrs Brown you have been hired." Mr Jones said with a smile. "Thank you sir." I said with a smile. He gave me the paper's that he had been looking at. "Here's your contract, read through it and if you are satisfied with the terms, I will see you Monday morning." He said and stood up. "Thank you Mr Jones." I said with a smile trying to not to sound too excited about the job. I was finally going to live my life, I was finally going to make my dreams come true. "Please call me Jackson... " He said. "Okay Jackson, thanks for the opportunity." I said and shook his hand. I suppose I should call Linda and tell her the good news. Despite all that happened in my past, Linda has been the only consistent thing in my life. She has always been there. I consider myself very lucky to have her. I walked to my car with a huge smile on my face, when I walked in here, I didn't expect to walk out of this place with a job. The interview was too easy but I didn't care because I had finally got the job of my dreams. Life is about to change for me and in a couple of years, I could even build Mama her dream home. This job comes with a huge salary. I hope soon that I can be able to bring Mama to live with me and after a few years I can buy her a house. When I woke up this morning, I didn't think this was how my day was going to turn out. I couldn't wait to go home and write my resignation letter, I was resigning with immediate effect. As soon as I email it, I will be out of a job but I don't mind because I am getting a better one.
