Gainful Employment Rylie got me a job at the store where she works. They needed an extra hand at the deli counter, and naturally Rylie thought of me—mostly since I never had money to take her anywhere or buy her anything. I don't have the desire to take her anywhere or buy her anything, but I didn't tell her that. Seems like it would be hurtful, and I'm not out to hurt anybody. I didn't have to submit a resume or go for a job interview. If I'd had to do all that, I wouldn't have applied. Rylie introduced me to the store manager, he asked if I'd ever worked a deli counter, and I said no. He admitted they were pretty desperate for workers. Ever since they started serving hot chicken tenders and potato wedges, they'd had a sudden influx of lunch customers—mostly construction workers
