Payback A couple weeks ago, I told my mother that my only pair of winter boots had a hole in them. Whenever I went out, snow and slush soaked my socks. My mother told me to go right out and buy myself a new pair of boots. She couldn't have her only daughter walking around a new town looking like a hopeless ragamuffin. Mom said she would pay for the boots. They would be my birthday present. Right after I bought myself a new pair, I called my mother to say I got them and tell her how much they cost. She didn't say anything about sending money, but that wasn't super-surprising. She doesn't trust the internet and she never does e-transfers or anything like that. But, like, when I say I bought these boots, what I really mean is that Chris put them on his credit card. I needed my mom
