~ Daeron's POV ~
"I can't believe this. You are smiling, brother. This is rare. I need to tell everything to our grandmother. She will be so happy to hear that you have finally found your mate. The whole north is going to celebrate this day." Amara was so excited that she even planned what she was going to wear at my wedding ceremony where I would mark Essence as my mate.
I don't think that I am smiling that much or am I? Shouldn't I be angry at that girl for suddenly claiming me as her mate?
The way she blatantly lied in front of that cunning bastard was so hilarious that I could not stop myself from smiling.
I can still remember her soft lips and the warmth that I felt when she got closer to me. Her presence calmed me so much that I feel I could sleep tonight without a problem.
I am not certain if she is my mate or not, but I do know that I need her by my side at any cost. I have not felt so peaceful in my life and I really don't want to lose this peace.
At that time I was not sure what I should do to take her by my side, but now that I have a reason, I am not letting anyone get between us.
"I thought that you didn't like that pampered princess, your highness. Do you think that our people will accept her as their queen? She still hasn't awakened her powers, so won't she become a weakness for you?
A powerless queen won't be able to survive in the north for too long." Silas was my Lycan gamma and as my gamma, he is the one who makes strategies for the kingdom.
He continued to drive and Zion, who was sitting by his side, glared at him. We are all childhood friends, but after growing up we have completely become different people.
"How could you judge her? She still hasn't come to the North, so how do you know if she will survive there or not?
The confidence that I saw in her eyes today, I could tell you that someone like her will never give up." Zion asserted calmly and the way he was glaring at Silas made me realize that some things never really change.
Both of them never agreed to the same thing in their whole lives. They could fight all they wanted as I only wanted to think about my future queen. It's strange, but I feel like I could hardly live another day without her.
The way she grabbed my hand in front of the werewolf king, queen and that stupid prince was enough to tell me that I could never find someone like her, so I really didn't want to lose her.
"When the king accepts her, then even the people will accept her. She even saved my sister from those rogues, so how could she be a weak princess? I have never seen someone as strong as her.
Even though she didn't awaken her powers or shifted into her wolf form… all those things seriously don't matter to me anymore." I replied to Silas and instead of arguing with me, he simply nodded his head.
Zion was happy and so was Amara.
I failed to dance with her today, but I will make it for her for our wedding ceremony. I don't care how she is going to use me for her benefit, but I don't care about all those things anymore.
"I am just feeling a little sad for her. Accepting the truth about her birth must be so hard for her. I am not sure how broken she must be feeling right now.
Those people… they were not even treating her like their daughter. We must bring her to our side as soon as possible." My sister sounded worried about her future sister-in-law and that just made me smile again.
Again?
Why am I smiling so much?
No, I will have to control myself or the whole palace is going to talk about my weird behavior.
That girl did not look broken to me. Well, she could break the bones of others, but if there comes a day when she will feel that way or when she will be sad, then at that time I want to be with her. I was alone when I lost everything, but I will not let the same happen with Essence.
After driving a while, Silas finally stopped the car in front of the palace and when I got out of the car, I saw that grandmother was waiting for me at the entrance gate, so I immediately walked towards her.
"What happened? Why are you making such an expression?" I asked her and she sighed in frustration.
Someone must have already told her everything that happened at the party.
"You are planning to accept that girl as your mate, huh? That damn uncle of yours is spreading rumors about you and the future queen of the Lycans that you have chosen for the north.
The people are not happy with your decision. He even made the council of members against you. You are well aware how those elders are, right?
They are not going to leave this topic. You know how many times they have tried to introduce their daughters, but everytime you rejected them without even looking at any of them.
What exactly are you planning to do with those council members?" She asked me in a serious tone and when I gently kept my hand on her shoulder, she simply looked me straight into my eyes.
How should I explain to her that Essence is all that I need in my life?
The rumors… I could take care of them and as for those stubborn relatives of mine, I will need to keep a check on them.
"You are thinking too much, grandma. You don't know how much my brother loves Essence. She looked so cool when she saved me from those rogues in the dark forest. I can guarantee you that she is perfect for Brother Daeron.
Everything that we knew or heard about her was nothing, but bullshit.
You will have to know the real her if you want to understand her." Amara embraced grandmother from behind and grandma simply kept her hand on her cheek when Amara tried to convince her to give Essence a chance.
Well, if she is only worried about those pests, then it won't take me long to take care of them. Oh, I also have to take care of my soon-to-be family.
That sly bastard must be looking for someone to help him out. He even invited the vampire prince to the party. Then something must surely be going inside his head.
What if he gifted Essence to his son in my absence?
No, if that happens, then my shadow guard will immediately inform me.
That cunning bastard is stupid, but he is not stupid enough to put his life at risk by going against me.
I clenched my fists when I heard the familiar footsteps.
What is he doing in the palace late at night?
"You are finally back. I was so worried about your and Amara's safety. I was not even able to eat anything, thinking that something might have happened to both of you, but now that you have returned without any harm, I can finally eat in peace.
I told you that nothing could happen to our Daeron, but you didn't believe me, mom. See, there is not even a scratch on his body.
He is not going to say anything to me like always, so why don't you tell me how the party was, Amara? Did you enjoy yourself there?
Did you meet the prince of the werewolf? He was always curious about you, so I thought you met him at the party." The guy continuously kept asking us questions and his voice was enough to put me in a bad mood.
Why does he care if we enjoyed the party or not?
What does he want this time and why is he mentioning the name of that useless prince in front of Amara?
Is there something that's going inside his head?
I could never really trust him and if he is so interested in our lives, then that only means that he was the one who tried to harm Amara with the help of those rogues.
I could not punish him without any proper evidence and this is something that he is well aware of, so he always finds different ways to boil my blood in rage.
"Are you done interrogating us, uncle? You see, it was a long night and now it's time to have a nice sleep. Oh, you might not be aware of this news as you are always busy with many things, so let me share this good news with you. I am going to get married to the princess of Westross.
So, make sure to prepare everything perfectly for my would-be wife. I want to make that day perfect for her. As she is my other-half, then it means that she is a very special existence for me, so you better think twice before taking any action.
I don't want to see bloodshed on my special day. You do understand what I am telling you, right?" I warned him with a smirk on my face and he just lowered his head in front of me without saying anything.
I won't let anything or anyone harm you, Essence, and that's my first promise to you.
