Chapter 7 Several days passed, and Neil hadn’t seen Rolf except from a distance. He decided Rolf’s interest in him must be merely casual. If it had been more than that, wouldn’t Rolf make some effort to see him? The circumstances under which they worked would make that easy. All Rolf would have to do was make a request for Neil to examine one of the horses with which Rolf needed help. Just when he’d concluded Rolf’s bringing him home after working in the clinic in town was nothing more than a polite gesture to make up for Rolf’s standoffishness, one of the farrier’s assistants came into the clinic, saying that Rolf wanted to see him. Dr. Turner smiled. “You must be making a positive impression on Rolf,” the senior vet said. “He’s pretty particular about who works on horses with him.” N
