Chapter five linking

~~Nash’s P.O.V~~   I was sitting in my class when all of a sudden I got a mind-link from Kelly, which was unusual, she never talked during class unless it was important.    “Hey big brother, Kristie has her sights set on you and Star. we need to do something to get her to leave her alone. Should I scare her? It might be fun.” Kelly said, mind-linking me and I waited for a few seconds to reply to her, I needed to calm down first. The thought of Kristie turned my stomach, but the thought of her hurting Star in any way pissed me off.   “No don't, humans don't know about us just yet and they can't find out. We’ll figure it out. Have you spoken to mom or dad? I told them about Star last night and told them that I hadn't seen her face properly, but when I explained why they both clammed up and started acting strange. They started acting weird when I mentioned Star wearing baggy clothes and a hoodie, I need to figure this out. I need to know why she wears it. Maybe if I talk to dad again and see what he says.” I replied, mind-linking her back and keeping my head down, so that Star wouldn't notice.   “Alright Nash, but until then I'm going to follow her and see where she lives or I can offer her a ride home.” Kelly said and that sounded like a good idea, but would Star accept a ride home from her.   “Good idea, sis. Let me know if you see anything else.” I replied and ended the link before Star or anyone else caught me. I sat beside Star and I was trying to concentrate on my school work, this English stuff can be hard, but not when you speak many languages. The bell rang for class to end and before I even had a chance to turn and look at her she was gone, running through the door. I followed her scent and it took me straight to the library.    “Wow, she must have the two periods free that she was on about the other day, lucky me.” I said to myself, peeking in through the window of the door. I watched her for a few minutes as she placed books back on the shelves, hoping that she might just lower her hood a bit so I could see her face, but she didn't and I now had to hurry to get to gym class. ~~Star’s P.O.V~~   I got done with my job at the library and grabbed my backpack, heading out of the school and back home. I looked at my watch when I was half way home and I was running really late, so I started to run as fast as I could. I wasn't usually this unorganized but for some reason lately I seemed to always be running late and the one person I couldn't be late with was my dad. I got home in the nick of time and hurried to cook dinner, deciding on shrimp tacos with homemade sauce to go with it. I cooked as quickly as I could and hurried to eat mine before dad got back. I made my dads plate up and set it down on the table along with his usual two beers and then went back into the kitchen, washed up the dishes and cleaned everything up. I ran upstairs and straight into the shower, once finished I dried off and put my night clothes on. I grabbed the book I had been wanting to read and put my night light next to my bed, turning the other lights off so that my dad wouldn't notice and think I was asleep. I was out of breath, but I was also so excited to read this book that I quickly opened it up and started to read before I was disturbed again like last night.   I read about werewolves and werebears, how they look like humans in normal everyday life and only shift when they feel threatened or are at war. They find their life long mate when they turn eighteen. This was really interesting, but it didn't seem like a fictional supernatural book like I first thought it was, this somehow made it all seem possible, like it was a factual book of some sort, but it couldn't be. I carried on reading and the next part was about werecats, fairies and vampires, but just as I was about to start reading about these creatures I heard my dad's car pull up. I heard the car door open and close, his footsteps on the porch and then the sound of the front door opening and closing. I thought he would head straight to the dining room like he usually did, but then I heard his footsteps coming up the stairs and quickly hurried to close the book, hiding it under my pillow and turning off the night light. I pulled the covers over my head and pretended to be asleep, just as my bedroom door flew open with a bang.   “STAR! GET YOUR ASS UP AND COME DOWNSTAIRS! WE NEED TO TALK!” My dad shouted, but I still pretended to be asleep, hoping he would just leave me alone. I could smell the booze on him from here and I knew that if I went downstairs he would beat me, so I was trying to avoid it for as long as possible.   “NOW! GET YOUR ASS UP! I KNOW YOU'RE AWAKE!!” My dad screamed, leaving my room and I knew that there was no point in trying to pretend it would just end up with me having an extra beating on top of the normal beating I had. I hurried to get out of bed and ran downstairs, going straight into the dining room where my father was sitting and eating his dinner. He opened the first beer and drank it in one gulp, then he opened the second beer, but was a bit slower at drinking this one and it took him two or three gulps before it was gone. I knew this was a sign for the bad things that were to come.   “Get me another one.” My dad said and I hurried to the kitchen. I grabbed a beer, opened it and set it down beside him, backing away quickly. I didn't show any fear in front of my dad because even if I did he would be even worse. It seemed to take him forever to finish eating and I just wanted to know what he wanted to say and get it over and done with.   “I’m glad you could get your fat ass out of bed for once. When you clean my plate come back here and hurry, I want another beer.” My dad said, looking up at me once he had finally finished his food. I grabbed his plate and hurried to the kitchen, washing and drying his plate, putting it away. I grabbed two beers in case he wanted another one, I would be prepared and then hurried back into the dining room, placing them down on the table.   “Sit down Star, we need to talk.” My dad said and I pulled the chair out next to him.   “Not there stupid, I dont want your useless ass next to me. Sit at the other end.” My dad said, glaring at me like it was a crime to sit in the chair next to his. I went to the other end of the table and pulled the chair out, realising how stupid I had been, of course it was better for me to sit here, he couldnt jump and attack me at this distance.   “Star, I’ll get right to the point. You don't want to be here do you? Well, I don't want you here either, I can't even stand the sight of you. You look just like your w***e of a mother and you disgust me. No wonder she got herself killed and I couldn't care less about your brother.”  My dad said, shocking me. Why did he beat me and blame me for their deaths, saying that I should have died instead when he didn't care about them and talked like this about them? Was this all just a front just so he could beat me? Was it all just lies? Just then there was a loud knock at the door and it made me jump, wondering who it could be, we never had visitors.   “COME IN!!!” My dad screamed out and then I heard the door open. I heard loud footsteps and what sounded like the clicking of womens high heels, then she walked in the dining room and stood beside me, making me feel uncomfortable.   “This woman is taking you to her house. They live out in the middle of nowhere and I couldn't give a rats ass if you live or die as long as I don't have to see your ugly face again. She's taking you to train to be a lady in waiting. Go get your s**t together, you have five minutes to pack your s**t and get the f**k out of my house.” My dad said, glaring at me and my jaw dropped open. I was going to be a lady in waiting, I had heard stories about them and a lady in waiting was a w***e.   “NO, I WILL NOT GO WITH HER! I WOULD RATHER LIVE ON THE STREETS THAN BE A f*****g w***e!” I shouted and stormed out of the dining room. I have had enough of this s**t, I don't care if I don't have enough money yet, anything would be better than staying here or being a w***e. I packed what I could, got dressed in my jeans, t-shirt, my baggy hoodie, put my shoes on and grabbed my money, book, phone and charger. I stormed back downstairs, when the woman grabbed me.   “LET GO OF ME YOU f*****g b***h! ” I screamed out, but my dad slapped me hard across the face.   “STOP BEING DISRESPECTFUL! GO WITH THIS WOMAN OR LIVE ON THE STREETS! THE CHOICE IS YOURS BUT YOUR NOT f*****g LIVING HERE!!” My dad shouted again and I jerked away from the woman.   “Then I would rather live on the streets, you f*****g prick.” I said and turned to leave.   “I hope you choke on your beer, you asshole.” I said and stormed away, but that didn't stop my dad from landing a punch between my shoulder blades as I left. I flinched and it hurt like hell, he had winded me a bit, but I wasn't going to stop walking and stormed out of the front door into the pouring rain. I walked down the road a bit and then stopped when I was out of sight, doubling over at the pain I felt, but when I saw a car approaching me I tried to straighten up as fast as I could and carried on walking. The car pulled up next to me and the same woman got out and stopped me.   “Star, listen I know it's hard, but you have to trust me, please you can trust me. I promise. My son told me about you and this is the only way for me to get you away from this man. I know something is going on with you and from what I just witnessed I know it's really bad. Now get in the car and I will explain everything when we get to my house.” The woman said and I looked at her like she was crazy. Does she really expect me to believe her? Who is her son anyway and what does he have to do with any of this?   “Who the hell is your son and why would he tell you about me, Lady?” I asked, cautiously.   “Can you stop calling me Lady, my name is Emma and my husband's name is Leo. You know my son and daughter, Nash and Kelly.” Emma said and now I knew who she was, but that still didn't explain why she was here.   “I know who they are, but why do you want me to go with you? Why did they tell you about me?” I asked, still suspicious of her.    “Listen, please this is for your own good, but we don't have time for this and need to leave now.” Emma said, looking back at my dad's house and I saw the front door open.   “Okay Emma, I’ll tell you what, I will go with you, but if I don't like what I see I'm leaving.” I said, dreading my dad coming out and beating me to death this time. Emma nodded and opened the passenger door for me, taking my bags and putting them on the back seat. I got in the car, but I was still suspicious of her and kept my hands balled into fists just in case she tried anything, I would be ready. After all it was better to face and deal with her than my dad at the moment, he had drunk so much and was in such a temper that I was sure he would really kill me this time.
