Chapter seven helping her heal

2074 Words
~~Emma’s P.O.V~~   This poor girl had been through so much and yet she was still so strong, she had fought hard to live and she had survived. It's a shame that the only way I could get her out of there was to lie, but when I walked back into the room there were tears in her eyes and all I wanted to do was hug her and comfort her, telling her that everything was going to be okay now. I cleared my throat so that she would know I was back in the room, I didn't want to startle her or make her jump because that could do more damage to her wounds and it would only cause her more pain, that was the last thing she needed.   “Star, you will feel a slight prick and then a numbing sensation. As soon as you feel that let me know and I’ll start stitching you up, okay.” I said and she nodded, closing her eyes as I injected her. I waited for a few minutes, getting everything ready and threading the needle.   “I think it's started to work.” Star said, looking at her legs.   “Okay, close your eyes and tell me if you feel this.” I said and she did as I asked her. I poked her leg slightly and she didn't move, she didn't say anything either.   “Star, did you feel that?” I asked and she shook her head.   “Okay, then it has worked. Alright sweetie, I’m going to stitch you up now, but it's going to take a few minutes. I promise you wont feel anything and then you can get dressed when I’ve finished.” I said and she nodded her head, still not daring to open her eyes and I couldn't blame her for that. She had four deep cuts on her legs and they would need a fair few stitches to bring the skin together. The first thing I did was get the saline solution and clean her wounds, making sure to get any blood off of them.   “Can I ask how you got these cuts?” I asked and she went silent, as I started to stitch them up.   “My father had a whip a week back and I guess I must have left a dish out or something. He woke me up by hitting me with it, then dragged me downstairs by my hair and pulled all the dishes and plates out, making me wash and dry them all over again, then…..nevermind, you don't want to know that. Are you done yet?” Star asked, just as I was stitching up her second cut. What else happened that night?    “Not yet, but I won't be much longer.” I said, starting on the third cut. I stitched it up and then moved onto the fourth, which was the biggest. She was so brave, but I had no idea how she was able to walk properly with these cuts, they must have given her so much pain everytime she moved and yet when she walked into the house she never even winced, like she was sadly used to the pain. I stitched up the last cut and then put the cream on her legs, stomach and chest, she never moved once or even protested, like she now knew that I wouldn't hurt her.   “Alright, I’m done now and you can get dressed. Here I have this nightgown for you to wear, its baggy and wont rub or hurt you in the night, giving your body time to heal and your skin a chance to get air to it.” I said and she nodded. She took the nightgown from me and I helped her put it on when I saw how painful it was for her.   “If you need anything at all you can call me on this and I will be right here, even if it's the middle of the night.” I said, handing her a cell phone with my number already in it. She took it from me and nodded, she wasn't much of a talker which I understood because I was the same when I was in her position.   “You will meet my husband tomorrow morning if you are up to it and I’m sure Nash and Kelly will want to see you too. They know that you are here, but I told them to give you your space and let you rest tonight. I know all of this is a lot to take in, but you are safe here and no one will hurt you. You have my word. I’ll let you rest now and get some sleep. I’ll see you in the morning.” I said, putting everything on the tray and smiling at her as I left the room, closing the door behind me. After seeing her all I wanted to do was cry, but I didn't want to upset her and so I just went back downstairs to Leo, needing his comfort. ~~Star’s P.O.V~~   I listened to Emma and I felt a little more comfortable talking about my past with her, after she had said that she had been through the same thing, but then I stopped. I didn't want to talk about all of it, not right now, not until I felt completely comfortable with Emma. Emma cleaned up my wounds, stitched me up and even helped me get dressed, but she didn't push me to talk or do anything I didn't want to do and for that I was grateful. I watched Emma leave with the tray, would I really be safe here now? I thought to myself as I looked around the room. I hoped I would be, but I knew I needed to start trusting someone, so who better to start with than Emma who had actually helped me. I turned to get my bags, grabbed the book out of one of the bags and carefully sat down on the bed. I felt safe enough in this room to be myself and relaxed a little after a few minutes, knowing that no one was going to come into the room, but I had the cellphone on the nightstand just in case.    I leaned back on the bed and started to read my book again, it said that once a werebear or werewolf finds its mate that it's for life. They mate and mark each other as a sign to others that they are taken. This mark creates a bond between the two mates and they can feel everything the other feels or does. Mates are nearly always faithful to each other because it is a gift to be able to find your mate, but if one of them is unfaithful then the other would feel it through the bond, they would feel a sharp and tight pain in their chest and stomach, sometimes the pain is too much and they feel like they are going to die. Mates are considered a sacred and a precious thing, so the penalty for being unfaithful is death, this punishment is the same for both werewolves and werecats as well. Every now and then a werewolf, werebear or werecat will have a human mate, but this can be very risky as humans tend to overreact and be scared of the unknown, so they will try to ease their human mate into their life and gradually introduce them to new things of their world. This book was so interesting and I wanted to read more, but I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I felt so sleepy from the cream, stitches and everything else I had been through today, so I closed the book and placed it on the nightstand next to the cellphone. For the first time in years I wasn't afraid to fall asleep, I wasn't scared that my father would come into my room and yell at me or hit me. It was a weird sort of feeling, but it was definitely one I could get used to. I lay back on the bed and I guess I was more relaxed here than I thought I was because it didn't take me long to drift off to sleep.   I was dreaming that I was riding on a huge black bear and when I looked around I saw that there were other bears, werewolves, huge panthers and jaguars surrounding us. We got to the middle of the forest and all of us stopped, when suddenly wolves that had red eyes and were drooling came out into the clearing and my father was standing in the middle of them. I woke up with a jump and sat up in the middle of the bed, coated in sweat. I looked around realising that it was just a bad dream and saw that the sun was shining in through the huge windows. I threw the blankets off me and got out of bed, finding that I could walk easier than yesterday and that there was no pain when I stood up or moved. I went to my bags and grabbed some clothes then went to the bathroom. I took my nightgown off and noticed that my cuts were almost healed.   “Wow, that cream really worked. I wish I had some of that stuff before, it would have made my life less painful and a lot easier.” I said out loud to myself, looking in the mirror. I saw that the bruises on my back were fading fast, even the new ones. I took a look around the bathroom and saw that there was a walk in shower, so I turned the water on and got it, washing my body and it felt so strange not having to be careful because of my wounds. I got out once I was finished and dried off, got dressed and went back into the bedroom. I sat down on the bed and brushed my hair, still looking around the room. I didn't have a clue where anything was in this house, so I decided to be a bit cheeky and take a look around. I walked out of the bedroom and almost ran right into Emma.   “Oh, I’m so sorry Emma. I didn't know where the kitchen was so I decided to look around. I hope you don't mind.” I said, expecting her to be angry with me, but she just smiled at me.   “Star, this is your home as well now. If you want to take a look around you are more than welcome to. How are you feeling today? How are your wounds?” Emma asked, more concerned about me than the fact that I was snooping around. It was really weird how she was so accepting of me, but I didn't question it, not yet anyway.   “That cream is amazing, my cuts are almost healed and the bruises are fading fast.” I replied and she nodded.   “That's great news. Come on, let's go and I will introduce you to my husband Leo.” Emma said, smiling at me. I nodded and followed Emma downstairs, through to the living room.   “This is the family room where we gather to watch TV, talk or play games. We have Wii, playstation and others, you name it, we probably have it.” Emma said, showing me around. The next room she showed me was the kitchen.   “This is the kitchen, we have someone come in every morning to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner, but all of us help clean up after each meal.” Emma said and I nodded as she walked out of the room and down a long hallway. I noticed that there were a lot of photos on the walls, some were of huge men with crowns on their heads and some were of kids and their parents. All of the family pictures and one thing in common, they all looked happy and I couldn't remember the last time I felt happy in my family. We finally stopped outside a door and Emma didn't bother knocking, she just grabbed the door knob and opened the door.
