The sound of my bedside alarm jars me awake. I blink, stretching out my hand to put it to a stop.
I rub my eyes, feeling the remnants of sleep still clinging to me.
I force my eyes awake and glance around.
There, I found my footwear, I slip into my clothes. I walk out of my room and head down the stairs.
"Mrs Jones?" I call out for my morning coffee as I walk down the stairs. But there's no response.
When I reach the bottom of the stairs, I paused.
Nothing prepared me to seeing her this early.
Mom's seated on the couch, her legs crossed with a cup of coffee in hand like she's a queen or something. Her presence is imposing as ever.
"Mom?" I call out, walking towards her.
"Oh, Bill. You're finally awake." she says, her tone a mix of relief and eagerness.
