CHAPTER FIVE

VIRGINIA POV CON'T

I couldn't help but hug her. She and Devon have been together since junior year. He was really good to her, and I could feel sadness in my heart, knowing that I would never have anybody or that kind of love. I mean what guy would want to be with someone with so much baggage and is ultimately broken? "Mandy, I am so happy for you and Devon!"

She smiles and tucks her hair behind her left ear and that is when I see the ring! I am staring at her, shocked. She sees me and blushes and Chey and Paulette notice what I am gaping at.

"B*TCH!" Chey yells and yanks Mandy's left hand across the table. "How could you NOT tell us?! When did he pop the question? When is the wedding? Who is the Maid-of-Honor?"

Paulette just smiles and congratulates Mandy. I noticed sadness cross her face briefly. I made a mental note to ask about that later.

Mandy giggles at Chey. "Whoa, he asked me today before graduation and, as for the rest, we have not discussed it yet, so you will have to wait."

Chey grumbles something about needing to be prepared. "I am happy for you Mandy, and as for Rae's question, I am heading to New York City in August. I have an interview with a modeling company there. If everything goes well, I will be moving there to start my life-long dream of being a model!"

We all hugged her. "Oh my gosh! That is amazing!" I feel a deep pain in my heart, my friends won't be here near me! I miss them already!

"So, Rae, what are your plans?" Chey asked me as she pops a deep-fried ochra into her mouth.

"Well...umm I...I don't really have any plans." I haven't planned for my future because I am only concerned with surviving and getting away from Neil. The first thing that I had to do was to ensure my safety, then I would worry about my future. I was really enjoying myself with my friends when a waitress approached and handed me a folded-up piece of paper.

"Ma'am this was left for you." She shyly smiled at me.

I looked from her to the paper and back to her and cautiously took the paper. "Who left it for me?" I asked as I opened the folded paper and saw that it was a phone number.

"It was a very attractive gentleman from the corner booth." She said with lust evident in her voice.

For some reason, the tone of her voice set my nerves on edge. I had this very fierce need to protect the person who this slut was talking about! I could feel a rumble start from deep within my chest and escape my mouth as a growl! I immediately stared at her in surprise as her eyes widened. I could almost smell the fear rolling off of her. I quickly folded the paper back up and put it in my purse. "Thank you." The waitress nearly fell a couple of times running from the table. I looked around the table only to find that all three of my friends were staring at me. "What?"

Chey quickly smirked. "Oh yeah...you have absolutely NO feelings for that arrogant prick!"

I glared at her but said nothing. I just wanted to leave now. "Is everyone done? You guys want to go do something after this? I don't really want to head home just yet."

They all nodded their heads, and we all paid for our own meals and headed towards the door. We were all laughing at something that Chey had said when my arm was roughly jerked. I was nearly out the door when it happened. "Ow...hey what the fu-" I stopped mid-sentence when I saw who jerked my arm and the deadly look in his eyes had my blood running cold! "Neil! What are you doing here?"

Neil just smiled but still had that deadly look in his eyes. "I think that you have had enough fun with your friends, don't you think so...Ginny?!" He held my arm in a death grip that just got tighter. "I think that it is time to get you home...now!"

I could not hide the fear in my eyes as I looked into the fierce emotion in his!

CHRISTIAN POV

We made our way back to Alpha Kentwood's pack, and we were making good time when Tammy began whining about needing ot eat and stretch her legs.

"Christian, can we please stop and get something to eat? I also need to spend some time out of this cramped car!" Tammy whined at me.

I rolled my eyes at her, but I had to admit that I was even getting hungry. Hey Derek?

Yes Gamma?

Is everyone ready for a lunch break? I waited for a few minutes for him to reply. We were all in about 4 SUVs. I was in charge of the first one with the alpha and his daughter, along with a couple of warriors for protection. Derek was in charge of the other SUVs.

Gamma, we are ALL ready for something to eat!

I smirked at his reply. Of course, they wanted something to eat. Werewolves had a very active metabolism, so we constantly needed nourishment. Okay, we are about 10 minutes from the nearest town, which is Helio. We can stop there.

Alright Gamma.

"It will be about 10 minutes before we reach Helio, then we can stop for food." I told the alpha and his daughter.

She smiled at me. "My hero!"

I cringed at the tone, I couldn't believe that she acted so loose, especially for an alpha's daughter! She shamelessly flirted with Alpha Braxton, then when he shut her down, she flirted with my beta, and now she is using the same tricks on me! "I am no hero, miss."

She leaned forward and ran her hand up and down my shoulder as she whispered in my ear. "Oh, but you ARE MY hero and I will show you how thankful I am towards you later." She ran her tongue along my ear.

I quickly jerked my head away as Deuce was growling in my head. WHY THE F*CK DID YOU LET HER NASTY A** LIPS NEAR OUR EAR?! If you don't do something about her, I will!

Deuce, whoa man! You have never acted like this! What has your boxers in a bunch? I could feel my wolf pacing in the back of my head. I was so confused, but I didn't push the issue. We will talk about this little blow up later!

Yeah, whatever human! After grumbling and pouting, he blocked the link.

What a moody a**hole! I smiled to myself at that thought. I briefly glanced behind me and saw that Tammy was about to caress my cheek. "Ma'am, if you want to keep that hand, I suggest that you refrain from touching me! My wolf won't tolerate anybody's touch except from our mate!"

I heard her gasp and quickly sat back in her seat. We drove in silence until we arrived at a quaint little diner. I could also see that there were a bunch of teenagers quickly piling in the doors. "Alright we have finally arrived for some food for the princess. Alpha, you and your daughter please wait here for me to go check it out to make sure there are no rogues in there."

They both nodded in agreement. I got out of the vehicle and linked up with the others. I am going to scout, wait for my signal!

Yes Gamma! They all chorused in unison.

I walked into the diner and immediately saw a table where I could observe every angle of the diner. I quickly reached it and at down. I noticed that there were four very beautiful girls also approaching, but I was slightly faster.

"Hey! We wanted that table!"

I looked at the girl who said that. She was indeed very beautiful. She looked to be about 5'3" with a very curvy body. She had long blond hair that was pulled up into a high ponytail. She had hazel eyes, tanned skin and lips that were pleasantly plump. She smelled human. In fact, they all smelled human, but the one in the back had a slightly different scent. It wasn't something that I hadn't smelled recently. It was familiar, but I just couldn't place where I smelled it before. My attention was brought back to the blond. "I didn't see your name on it."

"Whatever man, you obviously are not a gentleman!"

I looked at her with an amused expression. When did I say that I was a gentleman? I asked myself, but I am curious what her parameters are for a 'gentleman'. "Please enlighten me as to how I am not a 'gentleman'."

I saw her flip her hair and wave her hand between herself and the other three. "A gentleman, having seen that us women were heading for the table, would have given it to us."

I looked at the other three and saw another blond but with brown eyes and a few inches taller than the one talking. She was extremely shy, and I could see a blush creep up her neck to her face. I then realized it was because I was looking at her that she became shy. How cute! I looked at the girl standing next to her and saw that she had dark brown hair that was cut into a bob that pleasantly framed her face. She had forest green eyes, and she looked to be about 5'5". She also had a quietness about her. I couldn't really see the one in the back because she was being blocked from my view. I look back to the one that I will call Biznatch. I scoff. "Women? All I see are teenagers, but you do have a point...a 'gentleman' would have given up the table!" I looked her directly in the eyes. "Of course, I never claimed to be a 'gentleman'!"

I was taken aback by the sweet sound of laughter coming from the mystery girl at the back orf the group. The sound of her laughter sent a warm feeling throughout my body and even my wolf perked up to get a peek at this girl. Deuce, could this girl be our mate? I mean, I don't feel a pull towards her like that, but I do feel something.

Deuce is quiet for a long time. That is a good question. I agree with you that I don't feel the pull, but I can't be sure because I haven't seen her eyes yet. I do know that there is some kind of connection between us and her. It feels familiar, but again... I don't know.

I was so lost in thought that I completely missed what the mystery girl said, but I was pulled to the four of them when that Biznatch ws glaring at the mystery girl. I feel this overwhelming feeling like I have to protect her. The feeling was so sudden and powerful that I almost lost control of my wolf! Deuce, please back down, we are in a diner full of humans!

I need to protect her, I can feel that she is in danger!

I feel the need to protect her too, but this is not the time! Look, no one is hurting her! Can you please just chill?!

I feel Deuce reluctantly surrender control back to me. That was weird. I thought to myself.

"Come on Chey, let's get something to eat!"

Oh, so that is what Biznatch's name is, Chey. I roll the name on my tongue, and it has a bitter taste to it. Just based on Chey's attitude, I find her less appealing to the eye.

"Fine, let's go." Chey says as she turns to look for another table. I saw that the shy one and the dark-haired one followed their friend. I also noticed that the mystery girl was openly staring at me!
