READY FOR THE WORST

 Daniel’s P.O.V.

I watched her struggling for air and keeping her pace in the last lap. She was supposed to be strong with good strength but I couldn’t blame her for what we did with her. It pained me a lot to saw my daughter struggling so hard to keep her pace with others. She had a strong will though. She never complained about her hard training or about her lack of strength. She was very enthusiastic with great determination.

Today, it’s her 16th birthday and she was so excited. Every she-wolf of this age is excited about this day as they gain their wolves today and with that their every sense including their strength heightened. They are supposed to sense their mate also after today. I was not ready for her mate though. She was only 16 and I don’t think that any boy could keep her safe and take good care of her.

“What are you thinking so hard?” I looked at my mate who was cooking our lunch. I came back home after the training and already had taken my shower. I found Ruby a month after my 18th birthday during Alpha Ceremony in Dark Moon Pack 20 years ago. She was 17 years at that time and only I knew how I resisted myself not to mark her before her 18th birthday.

“It’s her 16th birthday today and I don’t her to smell her mate”, I frowned and she looked at me in disbelief. Some wolves smelled their mate right after their 16th birthday but couldn’t mate or mark each other before 18. But It doesn’t mean that they can’t do any other things.

“Are you really serious, Dan?” she put both hands on her hips while glaring at me hard. I pouted while looking towards her innocently.

“Don’t give me that look, Dan”, she growled at me and I blinked at her hard. She growled in frustration while looking up and resumed her work. “She is grown up and like everyone she does has some needs. So don’t go possessive. She has my back if she wants to date anyone or find her mate”, my wolf Finn growls this time and instantly she moved back and snarled at me. The color of her eyes changed into her wolf and I knew that Nina was surfacing right now. Finn instantly whimpered like a lost puppy and Nina showed her canines to him.

I am Beta of Red Moon Pack but like other men in the world, I and Finn were submissive towards Ruby and Nina. She was also Beta Blood and her temper was fiercer than mine. Finn and I decided not to say anything more. I didn’t want to sleep on the living room sofa at the night.

“Hey mom… dad”, I perked up instantly when I heard Marie. Nina was very sweet and caring towards Marie since day one and now I knew that I had someone on my back. Nina never showed her aggressiveness in front of Marie and that was my advantage over her.

“Hey, angel…. Sit here”, I patted on the stool beside me and she instantly hopped up. “So …. Are you excited about tonight?” I asked her gently and she instantly grinned while showing the complete set of her pearly white teeth.

I looked at Ruby and she lowered her head without saying a word. “I am a very excited dad. Like others, I also wanted to hear my wolf’s voice. I wonder what she would look like?” she looked away with dreamy eyes.

“I am so excited to meet her, dad”, she beamed again and my heart pained instantly. I patted her back gently and passed a smile to her.

“Enough chatting now. Finish your meal first”, Ruby put our plates in front of us while glaring at me. “Now what did you do to piss her off?” Marie whispered to me and I looked at her helplessly. She understood immediately and patted my back sympathetically. It was clear now that I was going to sleep in the living room sofa. Finn whined in my head.

“It was your fault and I have to bear the consequences”, I scolded him and he hid his face under his paws. Stupid mutt…..

“Okay… baby… prepare your dress for tonight's ceremony and try to have a nap. You need your strength to be intact tonight. Amelia and Bonny are coming in the evening and they will prepare you for the ceremony”, Ruby informed her and she nodded. Amelia is Jacob’s daughter who is Delta (third in command) of our pack and Bonny is Mason’s daughter who is gamma of our pack.

Amelia, Bonny, and Marie were childhood friends and inseparable. They always backed up each other. Like Marie, both of them were also good fighters and wanted to serve the pack as warriors if their mates are from this pack. Both of them were a year older than Marie and already gained their wolves last year.

Marie finished her meal and washed her plates and other utensils. I and Ruby looked at her while finishing our meals.

“What we are gonna do tonight?” Ruby asked me sadly after Marie left the kitchen and I sighed. I could see the pain in her eyes. She was her mother after all.

I put my hand on hers and squeezed gently. “Whatever happens tonight we will go through together, remember this”, she tried to smile but failed miserably. A tear escaped from her eye and I instantly pulled her on my lap. She immediately hid her face in the crook of my neck and inhaled sharply. I rubbed her back while securing her in my embrace.

“Everything will be okay, Ruby. This is for her own good”, she nodded but didn’t lift her head. Suddenly I got a mind-link from Christian and I informed Ruby.

“What he wants now?” she asked me annoyingly and I smiled while putting her gently and carefully on the ground. “He calls me in his office. It’s also important for him too and you know this”, she rolled her eyes instantly and took our empty plates.

“Yeah… yeah.. I know”, she said in an irritating tone and I smiled again. She was her mother after all and was very possessive towards her.

I pulled her again toward me and gave her a small peck on lips that she responded quickly. “I will be back soon”, I gave her a small peck again and then came out of the home. I headed towards the alpha’s office on the ground floor of the packhouse. I knocked gently on the door and he commanded me to come in.

“Alpha”, I greeted him and he looked at me while putting a file that he was reading before on the table.

“Daniel… have a seat please”, he requested me and I nodded while taking a chair in front of his table. “Is she ready for tonight?” he asked me and I nodded while pursing my lips.

He sighed and then stood up from his seat. He went towards the window and looked outside the office. “I don’t know how are we going to deal with the situation tonight?” he said in a very distant voice and didn’t say anything. This was the same question that I was dealing with in my mind.

“To be honest, Alpha… I really don’t know what we are going to do tonight. I think you should have called Augustin for tonight. His presence near her could give her the much-needed strength that she needs tonight”, I stated my mind and he came back to his chair again.

“Augustin will celebrate his 18th birthday in the next two months and then we will have to deal with another condition. You know about their rivalry and I was not sure that in this condition, his presence will soothe her pain or it will worsen the condition more”, I slumped down my shoulders sighing heavily.

“I only don’t want my baby to be in pain for more time”, I looked away in a blank spot and he threw his head back.

“I have to make sure that she will be fine and take everything in a positive way. We will give her our support and strength to deal with this situation”, he said and I gave him a curt nod.

“Let’s hope for the best, Christian”, I said to him and he passed a weak smile. I could see the pain in his eyes that he was suffering from all these years.
