"I haven't done it yet," Lucifer grumbled. "But I may have to."
"No?" I said. "You don't have to do anything."
"But if I don't do it, it could kill him."
"No, wait," Cedar said. "Points have been made. So some things I want to say first. Lucifer, you definitely shouldn't have Church come into his power.”
"Did you not hear me? He'll die if I don't.”
"How long do we have?" I said.
Lucifer shrugged. "I'd have to do some more tests but from what I've got so far, a year, maybe two at maximum, for all his powers. But some have started showing up. Like the fact that we can’t lie to him.”
“Wait, really? None of you can lie to me?” he said, grinning. Oh, no. what was he going to do?
"And energy wise," Cedar continued. "If he has both demonic and angelic energies. And if we take him to the side where angels roam.”
Wait, what? Angels roam the Earth too.
"Right they're human they don't know," Ocean said. "The demons have the side we’re on with angels thrown in here and there for cosmic balance. But on the other side, angels are the majority, with demons being scattered."
"Let me process please," Cedar said. "If we take him there, depending on who his angelic parent is, it will cause some s**t. There's a chance we might need a stronger demonic presence on this side."
"The seven. Can't we just use one of them?" I asked. "But you know neutralise their power a bit. Or maybe Lucifer?”
"That might be a possibility. Not Lucifer, though. He stays in hell where he belongs,” Cedar said. “He’s staying in hell. His power on earth, that would just be a s**t show.”
“Speaking of the seven, Greed has Angel blood running through him," Lust deadpanned.
"You f*****g what?" Lucifer deadpanned.
"Yeah, he and Wrath are working together. I didn't sense Angel's blood flowing through Wrath. But Greed, his energies were all f****d up."
"And you told us now?" Ocean deadpanned.
"Well, Azure and I have been preoccupied if you didn't realise."
"But, if you ever wanted to take Church across, you'd have to worry about the split," Xavier said.
"No! Because of the split. Can't forget that," I said.
"Has anyone found out what is in the split?" Church said. “Because I have a few theories.” Ah, yes, Church’s weird theories.
"No. But I've had a few demons try and they've said they've seen lights down there,” Ocean said, as he eyed Nether. And by eye, I mean, eye. Like he was prepared to jump his bone any second.
He had his blue skin and his pointy demon ears that kept the piercings of his human form and human eyes and he looked very, very attractive.
"People?" I asked.
"People? Angels, demons, mutations. Whatever it is, they guard the split."
"So theoretically it's possible," Azure said.
"Does that mean that Wrath and Envy keep flipping sides?"
"It would explain all the tremors," Cedar said gently.
"Tremors? We've felt no tremors," I said. "You know besides the massive ones."
"That's because you're human, but we had a meeting and we've all been feeling them. It's the earth trying to fix the cosmic balance when two sins keep swapping over the split. That side is throwing something here. It's messing with the waves."
"Wait, you said it's throwing something here?" I said.
"Yes, when they get here, it's most likely two things will come here and when they come back they go back."
"Do we know what they are?" Lucifer asked, he was frowning.
"Not yet, we still don't know if they're the same people."
"But because of the Seven's high power, it's probably a high-level something."
"No. I just realised that when the seven came to the surface, all seven came to our side. That must have completely f****d with the balance. So how did that side react to it?"
All eyes landed on each other.
"Jesus f**k. I'll have a word with some of my contacts with that side," Lucifer said.
"You have contacts on that side?" Xavier asked, suddenly excited.
"Yes, I do."
"Awesome! I wanna meet them!"
"Absolutely not. You're staying away from them. Come on, let's go," Lucifer said.
Xavier grabbed Lucius and happily followed behind Lucifer, mentioning how he was definitely going to meet them.
The others all split into groups. To be honest, I wasn't really listening to any of them. Could I hear what they were saying? Yes, of course. But what is really processing? Not in the slightest.
When Yua walked away, I grabbed his sleeve. He paused and then sighed as he turned to look down at me. I gave him a small smile.
"Can we talk? Please?" I whispered, looking around. Everyone else had gone, but I didn't like being so out in the open. He nodded and I smiled as I dragged him to a room I had claimed as my own.
"What is wrong, Mint?" he asked, his deep voice had me weak in the legs. I cleared my throat as I casually leaned against the wall to help me stand.
"I'm sorry," I said. I looked up at him and he looked confused.
"It is okay. You said you were drunk. It happens."
Except I wasn't all that drunk, I could surprisingly take my alcohol well. But I wasn't going to tell him that. Xavier had snuck some in so we all got drunk, even Emory had joined us, much to Pride’s dismay. But we just locked the door and it worked out fine. But then after, I just had to go and seek Yua out.
"Then why aren't you looking at me, Yua? You've been ignoring me."
"I apologise," he said. I made a noise of frustration as I stormed over to him and grabbed his arm.
"Look at me!" I yelled. He was still looking up at the ceiling instead of at me.
"I am sorry, Mint. Please, excuse me." Except I didn't. He wasn't f*****g excused.
"No. Tell me what's wrong? Was it so bad that I kissed you?! That I could possibly like you!"
"Yes!" he yelled back. "It is terrible! It can’t be you, Mint!”
Oh.
I mean, I knew he would never have accepted it, but to be told so harshly. I thought he'd be more gentle about it like I had hoped.
"Well then," I said, trying not to cry. I swallowed the lump. "I'm sorry too."
I cleared my throat and moved out of the way. "Mint," he began, as he reached out and I moved out of the way. Oh, so now he wanted to look at me. After, he yelled at me. No. no way.
"Leave."
"Mint-" he began. He reached out and I stepped away from his touch. This was the first time he had raised his voice at me, but also the first time I moved away from his touch.
"Leave, Yua! Get out!"
He left and I slammed the door shut behind him. I wouldn't cry. I wouldn't cry. I inhaled and exhaled. I was fine. This was fine.
But then I felt that one teardrop and I couldn't stop crying. I rubbed my eyes and I wailed. He didn't have to be so mean about it. He could have been nicer about it.
Someone knocked on the door, rather loudly too. "Mint, I know you're in here. Open up!"
I wiped my eyes quickly and cleared my throat and threw on a smile. Opening the door, Xavier walked in and I closed the door behind him.
"Why were you crying? And don't even lie to me. I can see the tears. I heard you too. So spill."
"It's nothing. Just a thing with Yua," I whispered. He walked over to me, grabbing my face in between his hands, as he gently wiped the tears.
"What happened?" he muttered.
"I kissed him when I was sort of drunk. He's been weird since and I confronted him about it and I got defensive and he got mean. I wasn't expecting him to accept me, believe me. I know he wouldn't, because I'm his nephew-not-nephew, but he could have been kinder. I was praying he would have been kinder about it. I wish he had been nicer about it.”
Xavier rubbed my cheek with his hand and he sighed as he pulled me in for a hug.
"I'm sorry. Do you want to go to the surface?" I shook my head. There was a chance I would run into Kai and I didn't want to see him either.
"You'll be okay," he mumbled, as he kissed my head. He pulled away from me a little. I looked up at him, huh, he had really nice eyes. Then my eyes accidentally flickered to his lips and I realised how close the two of us stood and how if I got on my tiptoes and leaned in we would be kissing.
He must have had the same thought as he leaned down and I let our lips meet. His lips were warm. You know what they said, right, to get over someone you had to get underneath someone else. I would get over Yua. And if Xavier slept with Lust, maybe he would sleep with me.
Drown my sorrows with s*x. It was working with Lust, maybe it would work for me.
"I think the f**k not," Lucifer deadpanned. I didn't know where he came from. One minute we were alone and the next, Lucifer was beside us and he grabbed Xavier by the arm. I saw how long and black his nails were. Did he paint his nails?
But no, anyway, he grabbed Xavier and snaked an arm around his waist, before Xavier could get a word out, Lucifer used his free hand to grab his face and Lucifer kissed him.
Xavier groaned a little, but he didn't protest for a minute before he elbowed Lucifer and freed himself from his grasp, glaring at him. What the f**k? What the f**k? I thought Xavier hated Lucifer.
"Mint, if you were not my only grandchild I would have had you killed. I would have killed you myself. You do not touch Xavier." Lucifer was mad. His eyes were glowing red, his black hair seemed to be floating behind him. And his long nails were in Xavier's skin. He glared at Xavier, who looked unimpressed. "You're coming with me."
After they left, I blinked a few times as tears festered in the corners of my eyes, once again.
What the f**k just happened?
I wasn’t the type of person to kiss someone because I was rejected. Also, what the f**k were Lucifer and Xavier a thing? Since f*****g when? Was one of the Seven around? It would explain my reactions. I wouldn’t just sleep with Xavier.
Ah, Yua too. That was a thing too, but I was going to ignore that because I didn’t want to focus on the fact that I was rejected. I didn’t do too well with rejection. But I didn’t know how to deal with the ache that was growing.
“Hey,” Lust said. Ah, that made sense. “I overheard. I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. I knew it was never going to happen anyway.”
“But really, Yua? Out of everyone, Yua? The one who looks like he would kill you if you even look at him wrong. I mean, I guess I see the attraction, you could climb his tall ass like a ladder, but really, Yua?”
I blinked a couple of times. Climb his ass like a ladder? Wow.
“Why is everyone so surprised by the fact that I like Yua?”
“I don’t know much, you know, from being trapped in the void and all, but from what I’ve heard, he’s the least sane out of all the knights. He was taken by exorcists and tortured.” Ah, no. wait. I didn’t want to hear this.
But I just nodded.
“They exorcised him. Over and over and over again. You won’t know because you’re half-demon, but exorcising demons hurts from deep within. If demons had souls, I would say it hurt their souls. But it’s like this burning sensation and it hurts -”
“Wait, Lust, stop! I don’t want to hear it,” I whispered, and he nodded.
“He’s broken, Mint. That’s all he is.”
“He’s not,” I mumbled. “I’m not trying to say I can fix him and all of that, but he’s not. I’ve seen him when it's just him and I. That’s not all he is, sure he’s a little broken, but we all are. Don’t say it like broken is all he is and nothing more.”
