9 Reine My eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, provided by emergency bulbs, and I shivered. The bulbous eyes of cartoon characters stared at me from the walls, and an echo of lost laughter hung in the air. The place had once been a pediatric ward, now closed since the Aerie didn’t have any children. Would it open during tourist season for kids who got hurt or sick while visiting?
