Clare rushed home, her mind overloaded with questions and emotions. Why hadn’t she followed the letter and just disappeared? How did they find her? Why hadn’t she asked Mrs. Niro more about the Fae?
Why had she denied her bond with Xavier?
She wanted to blame the letter, say it was because she was being cautious but she would just be lying to herself. After the social gathering, she had spoken to Mrs. Niro and while the older woman didn’t have the exact answer, Clare could feel that Xavier was speaking the truth.
But she feared the truth, not wanting to accept that the Goddess had given her such a wonderful mate. She feared that Xavier was going to hate her weak self once he realized all the problems surrounding her.
