Chapter Fifteen - Jealous

2292 Words
Zarina just got out of the taxi that she called a while ago, they’re meeting at a building where people could stay in different rooms to sing karaoke. Luckily, this place has a huge generator that can hold only a limited number of people. The power outage isn’t being fixed yet, so most businesses only rely on their generators and solar-powered equipment. She doesn’t know how to sing, but she probably won’t sing because she’ll immediately leave if they force her to. “Zarina! Ice queen! Over here!” Zarina almost flinched after hearing Kirstin's voice, it was so loud that people who lived two blocks away could hear her. Zarina gazed at the front and saw that Kirstin was waving at her like a lunatic on the front, so she decided to fasten up her pace for her to stop doing that. She roamed her eyes at the people that she was with and everyone was looking at her in awe and some of them fell into a daze. “Wow! You look good today, isn’t that right everyone?” Kirstin glanced at their workmates from the back, so they immediately agreed with her as Zarina felt highly embarrassed on the inside. “She’s right, that romper looks good on you, honestly, that’s the first time I saw that kind of style,” One of the managers from the other department commented, “Are you perhaps a daughter of a billionaire? Was that tailored privately?” Zarina just shook her head at their remarks. She thought, why would they think of something like that? It’s weird. Some of them we’re still checking her out, especially the outfit Luther made for her, was it a bit too much? She felt a little bit uneasy for a moment as she felt Kirstin wrapping her hands on her arms. “Well now that we’re all here, let’s go!” Kirstin cheered happily as she dragged her inside of that huge building. Faint music was to be heard after they entered that building, it wasn’t much, but she thinks this place looks decent enough to gather around with huge groups like this. She thought that every room must be soundproof for each group to enjoy their quality time here together while bonding with their friends. Kirstin let go of Zarina’s arms finally as she volunteered to buy the tokens for herself as she asked for extra money to pay for it. “I honestly didn’t think you would come, manager,” One of Zarina’s people smiled, so she gazed at them from the back before tilting her head. “I’ve got nothing else to do, I finished my work in advance,” Zarina coldly replied, but everyone looked pleased that she answered them. “We’re truly glad that you’re here, it’s a good time for you to get to know about us,” A familiar man joined the conversation, so Zarina felt nervous for a moment. Is she actually having a conversation right now? “Let me guess, you don’t know our names, do you?” One of them amusingly asked, so Zarina just slowly nodded at them. These people keep on talking and talking like the flow of conversation isn’t going to stop unless she says something that would cut off the conversation. She suddenly felt bad when they mentioned that she probably didn’t know about their names, which is the truth. “Well we figured that out, I’m Fred, this is Eon, and lastly Miranda,” Fred happily smiled at their manager while pointing to those people that he mentioned, so Zarina just nodded as she tried to remember their name correctly. This is it, what Luther has been telling her about, she can’t risk this conversation being cut off, “I’m Zarina--” “Zarina Kaye Taylor, we know you, manager! We adore you for getting our work done swiftly and professionally!” Eon beamed while cutting her off as he happily gazed at their beautiful manager. Zarina felt relieved, she didn’t know the names of the people working under her aside from their emails where she sends some advice and remarks. And she honestly wouldn’t have thought that they knew her full name, so she was too surprised by that. “Nice to meet you then, Fred, Eon, and Miranda,” Zarina casually replied while offering her hands, so her team looked emotional for a moment before shaking her hands in unison. “Glad to work with you manager!” Her team exclaimed as they started talking to her about things at work. Zarina doesn't know what just happened, but all she knows is that she clicked with these people and she couldn’t deny how comfortable she was with their company. “I’m proud of you Zarina,” Luther happily smiled as he listened to the conversation that they were having. The good thing is he managed to activate the water element to listen to how Zarina was holding up from her phone, plus, his familiar is making it hard for him to listen. “Master, you have to tell me what happened here exactly! How am I supposed to help if you don’t tell me? And who the heck are those people that are talking?” Wayne kept on pacing back and forth while floating mid-air. After Luther let his familiar see that glowing mirror a while ago, it wouldn’t stop bugging him about what he did. “Master? You have to tell me what happened!” Wayne exclaimed while reaching out to his master’s shoulders. “Later Wayne, I have to check if she’s going to be alright,” Luther insisted, so Wayne was stunned at what he just said. “How close you are to that being? She might be dangerous for you!” Wayne screamed, so Luther rolled his eyes. “Did you forget how fragile human beings were? We studied about that years ago, don’t tell me you forgot about it,” Luther disappointedly stated before focusing on summoning the element of water. “But they were not real! How long has this been going on? How can I leave you now when I found out about this?!” Wayne sounded like he’s going to have a panic attack, so Luther just sighed before glaring at his familiar. “Would you calm down? Nothing strange happens, okay? It just appeared here,” Luther bit his lower lip, so Wayne just shook his head at him. “Master, we’ve been together for many years, I know if you lie or not, you probably did something to make that gap appear,” Wayne complained. “Shush! I feel like something is going on, I feel a weird aura around Zarina,” Luther wondered for a moment as he summoned a cake for Wayne to shut him up as he listened to what conversation Zarina was having. “Oh great! She took out her phone, I will see where she is right now,” Luther ignored Wayne’s whining as he revealed what the mirror was seeing. He was excited for a moment but then stopped after seeing Zarina sitting right next to a man that looks like he’s interested in her. He doesn’t know why he suddenly felt his blood boil at what he was seeing. “Hey there!” Zarina looked surprised when he called her, so he just chuckled, “Ms. Zarina, I’m Lukei Drake, just call me Luke for short, I’m part of Kirstin’s department,” He politely offered his hands, so Zarina nodded before accepting it. “Zarina Kaye Taylor, but you probably also know about that, right? Everyone who approached me knows my name,” She coldly replied, so Luke just laughed. “Well I do know your name, everyone probably does, you stand out inside our company,” Luke informed her with a smile, he’s still not letting go of her hand. Luther clenched his fists, “How dare he hold her hand for too long!” He furiously complained while pacing back and forth. Wayne stopped whining as he stared at his master who was acting strange, “Master, are you alright?” He curiously asked while munching on the cake Luther summoned a while ago for him. “Why would I stand out?” Zarina confusingly asked and Luther doesn't know if he’ll be proud or something because Zarina was the one initiating the conversation. “What do you mean, why? You’re beautiful, independent, and do her work so swiftly and professionally, everyone admires you especially those three,” Luke casually pointed at Eon, Fred, and Miranda singing like a choir on the front while looking at their manager. They’re finally singing at the karaoke and Zarina has been peacefully sitting on the corner when this guy approached her. “I see, thanks,” Zarina bit her lower lip as she decided to drink the lemon drink that she ordered gracefully. She doesn’t know what to say because it’s weird to just hear those compliments from her workmates. She had no idea they thought of her in that way. Luke, on the other hand, sipped his beer while gazing at her attentively as he smiled. He still can’t dismiss the fact of how beautiful Zarina was and Luther could see how he views her intently. “I don’t know why I’m getting pissed even though this has nothing to do with me!” Luther complained while scratching the back of his head. “Master, you’re acting weird, who is that woman?” Wayne curiously asked while looking at what Luther was watching. “She’s the human that I’m talking to you about!” Luther furiously answered him while gazing at that guy who was looking at Zarina intently while drinking his beer. Zarina was too dense to care who was looking at her since she was enjoying the drink Kirstin ordered for her. “Um, Zarina,” Luke nervously called while scratching the back of his head, so Zarina looked at him intently while raising her eyebrows. “Is there something wrong?” Zarina coldly asked, she was slightly proud of herself since she probably managed not to dismiss everyone that tried to approach her. Mostly, she liked the vibe of those people that talked to her. “Oh um, I’m just wondering if you had a boyfriend or something you know? Romantically?” Luke curiously asked as he nervously drank his beer. He’s thinking that he probably got this confidence to ask her that because he was feeling a little tipsy. “Boyfriend? No, it’s not in my best interest,” Zarina answered him directly before drinking her lemon juice. “That’s right! She’s not interested!” Luther commented, so Wayne looked at him weirdly. He thought his master was truly acting strange. “Why are you so worked up about that human talking to someone master? Isn’t it natural for them to interact with each other? I heard that’s how humans create friends or relationships,” Wayne claimed, so Luther gripped his hands. He didn’t say anything as he watched what Luke was doing, he just kept on staring at Zarina while she was drinking her lemon juice. “It’s cold,” Zarina whispered as she rubbed her palms against each other before warming up her thighs, she was wearing a romper, so her legs were exposed to the cold. “Oh um, do you want to step outside first? We could warm up there for a moment,” Luke suggested, so Zarina stopped for a moment before nodding. “Sure, I’ll just get my phone,” Zarina coldly replied before standing up, the people inside of the room looked highly drunk for them to care who’s entering the room or leaving. “Ahh! Why did you come with him!” Luther furiously complained while scratching the back of his head. “But the good thing is she brought her phone, I’ll be able to look after her,” Luther comforted himself as he nodded. Wayne just shook his head while watching his master go crazy, he thought he’s losing it after he left him here for like a month now already. “Here, let me offer you this jacket,” Luke took off his jacket, so Zarina immediately shook her head. “No, I can’t possibly do that,” She replied coldly, so Luke just chuckled before placing it softly on her back. “I insist, can’t let the manager get sick because it’s too cold, plus, you’re wearing such short fabric,” Luke smiled at Zarina before leaning on the wall beside the room they got out to. “Thank you,” Zarina sparingly replied as she gripped on that jacket, she remembered Luther from him as he immediately gave her a cloth to wipe her tears away before. “Are you sure you’re not interested in having a boyfriend?” Luke solemnly asked while lowering his head. He’s drunk and he knew he had to get away before he do something stupid, “B-Because I like you, Zarina,” He whispered, so Zarina furrowed her eyebrows at what he just said. “Oh no, he just didn't say that!” Luther was about to do something when Zarina politely gave his jacket back. “You must be saying those words because you’re drunk,” Zarina sighed before helping him sit on the bench next to that room since he couldn’t walk properly. “You can’t like someone you just met right now, even if you know their names before and observed them, it doesn’t work that way,” Zarina coldly commented and left him there to think about what he just said.
