Chapter Thirty Three - Sick

2194 Words
Zarina couldn’t sleep that specific night even though she knew she had to for a swift recovery, what happened between her and Luther again made her overthink. She didn’t bother coming to see him after he came back on the other side, she was so embarrassed with what happened that she just wanted to bury herself on her bed. Zarina felt how strong his hands were on her waist and it pissed her off why can’t she brush off that feeling. His body was toned and it felt so warm, Zarina blushed once more as she buried her burning face into her pillows. No man has ever held on to her like that aside from Lukei who accidentally hugged her when he was drunk. She just shrugged and tried to forget everything that had happened that night and slept soundly on her bed. “Oi lady it’s you again,” A kid in a strange formal outfit spoke to Zarina once more, she was planting something in their backyard to avoid those goblins from coming to visit their house. “It’s you again?” The small Zarina gazed at that strange kid before she decided to stand up, “What are you doing here? Are you the reason why goblins are here?” The strange kid in a formal outfit looked confused at what she just asked but then shook his head, “Look lady, I don’t know what you are, I tried to research something about your appearance, and still, I don’t have any idea of what you are,” “What do you mean? You’re the one who looks so strange, you’re floating and your whole body is transparent,” The small Zarina pointed out once more, as that strange kid furrowed his eyebrows. “What? You’re the one who looks strange and glowing!” The kid on the other side complained, so Zarina rolled her eyes at him. She thought that they’re repeating the same conversation they had once and it’s starting to annoy her. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, I’m leaving you here because I have other important things to do,” She bid that kid goodbye and never turned around even if he called her. Zarina opened her eyes before massaging her temples, another strange dream again about that strange kid, “Who was it? Why is he always appearing in my dreams?” She spoke to herself and glanced beside her bed. There was a tree plant over there and she didn't know why her lips formed into a smile, she checked her temperature herself and sighed in relief when she knew that it finally come back to normal. She decided to stretch her joints and pace outside. She stopped in her tracks after seeing that there’s another tree plant in the middle of the hallway near the exit and entrance of her unit. No wonder Kirstin was wondering why there was a small tree plant in her apartment. It was weird when she thought she asked why there was one, it was supposed to be on the other side! She paced towards the bathroom and opened the door, “Luther, why are there two plant trees in my apartment?” Zarina’s arms were crossed against her chest. Luther flinched because he was just about to greet her since he heard someone walking towards the bathroom, “Good morning human!” “You need to answer my question first before I greet you back,” Zarina firmly said, so he just scratched the back of his head. “I-I was panicking when I heard you fainted on your door, so I may have accidentally summoned two tree plants and just used the other one in exchange for me,” Luther almost forgot about that. “Kirstin finds it weird, you're lucky she didn’t question me too much, so don’t do that again,” Zarina sighed before meeting with his gaze, he looked attractive as he was wearing a black and red color combination of wizard clothing. “A-And good morning too, Luther,” She greeted before leaving him there alone to make some breakfast. Luther was so surprised that he cupped his mouth and squealed inaudibly, “How adorable!” He commented while shaking his head. “Zarina? Oi human? How are you feeling now?” He raised his tone enough for Zarina to hear in the kitchen. “I’m fine, thanks to your help and Kirstin, but I have to skip work for today too, I have to make sure I am truly feeling better for me to work well tomorrow,” Zarina informed Luther and thought it was a great idea. “That’s right! You still have to regain the remaining strengths that you have lost!” Luther beamed, so Zarina stopped chopping ingredients for a moment. “How about you? What are you feeling? Are you getting sick like me?” Zarina worriedly asked so Luther stopped for a moment before shrugging even though Zarina couldn’t see her since she was cooking. “I feel fine for now and let’s hope that it continues until this day ends, I should study about this sickness thing after we figure out if I feel strange or anything,” Luther sighed before using his power of levitation. “There’s also a possibility that we couldn’t visit each other often if this sickness occurs often, is it alright if we try it once more just to check if my theories were right?” Luther added as Zarina stopped sauteing some onion and garlic. The thought of not visiting each other’s world often made her feel upset on the inside and she couldn’t understand why. “Sure we could try,” Zarina answered firmly, Luther didn’t want to do it again because he doesn’t like Zarina getting sick. “Ahh! I hate to do experiments on us since our health is at risk, but seriously, do you really want to do this Zarina?” Luther wanted to make sure if Zarina was alright with this. “Yes, it’s alright,” She immediately answered, so he just sighed in relief before he started taking down notes. “Well um, are you going out today?” He curiously asked. She just finished up making fried rice and an omelet. Eggs and a few garlic were the only ones left here inside of her refrigerator, “Yes, probably grab some lunch outside since there won’t be a generator anymore,” Zarina mumbled before finishing preparing Luther's part of breakfast. She paced towards the bathroom before offering the bowl of the omelet to him, “Here’s your breakfast unless you have eaten already?”  Luther smiled at the bowl that she was holding as he chanted something to exchange something for her, “I haven’t eaten yet, so here’s a rose for a pretty lady like you for cooking me such a lovely breakfast!”  He playfully winked, so Zarina gazed at that red slightly glowing flower, “It’s beautiful, thanks,” She sincerely said without emotions plastered on her face before leaving the bathroom to eat in the dining room. Luther was caught off guard because he was expecting Zarina to glare at him or even roll her eyes at what she received from him. He felt his cheeks heating up as he decided to munch on that breakfast, it was silent until they both finished eating. Luther summoned the book his mentor was writing before, he flipped the pages until he reached the empty part of the book as he started writing about his findings there. He also wanted to gloat to his mentor about the things that he did while he was gone, he’s still dedicated to finding him no matter what. “Luther, I’m going to take a bath and head out,” Zarina suddenly appeared with a towel hanging on her shoulders. Luther gazed at her intently, her long burgundy hair was in a messy bun, she was wearing plain black sleeping clothes yet his heart was oddly thumping so rapidly against his chest. “Oh thank you for gracing me with your beauty!” Luther beamed, so Zarina glared at him because she thought he was being a pervert again. She took out the cloth behind her back and covered the mirror, “Quiet, and don’t do anything that’ll force me to break this mirror,” Zarina threatened, so he just chuckled on the other side as he felt his throat was sore. It wasn’t long until she finished taking a bath and decided to dry her hair and slipped into her casual clothes to grab lunch. “Hey, I’ll be going now,” Zarina went to see Luther before she rummaged through the inside of her small shoulder bag. “Do you want me to get you some too?” She coldly gazed at Luther who was reading numerous books while looking at her intently. “No, I’ll be fine, be back as soon as you can,” Luther smiled before he started reading some books again. Zarina thought something was weird, Luther looked like he was hiding something from her but then shrugged. “Alright, I’ll go now,” Zarina bid him goodbye as she securely locked the door of her apartment. Luther, on the other hand, waited until he couldn’t hear Zarina’s footsteps anymore as he started coughing. He felt like his head was about to explode and it’s unusual for that to happen especially to wizards like him. Mythical creatures can’t get sick, he doesn’t get sick, so why is he feeling that way? He doesn’t want to worry Zarina, that’s why stayed silent up until now. [So you were keeping something from me,] His eyes widened after he heard that voice, it wasn’t that loud but it’s enough for him to hear it below the mirror. “Z-Zarina? Are you there?” He curiously asked while gazing around the bathroom on the other side. [No, my phone is there, I have two,] Zarina casually informed, her tone sounded calm and it terrified Luther for a moment. “So you mean, you called yourself?” Luther coughed severely while raising his eyebrows, it’s weird to talk when he’s not seeing her physically. [Yeah, I left it when I took a bath a while ago, your voice sounds different and I was testing you if you’re going to tell it to me,] Zarina replied, [And you didn’t,] Luther flinched and was about to reply when he coughed so hard that his head felt like it was being squeezed, which made it worse. [I’ll be back there as soon as I can after I grab some food, and you have to teleport me to your place,] Zarina demanded, so his eyes widened. “Y-You just recovered Zarina, I can’t do that,” Luther almost scolded, but his harsh coughing stopped him from doing so. [You promised me a wish, you might as well take responsibility for that,] Zarina firmly stated before she ended the call. She wanted to be quick on grabbing both of their lunches and she’ll probably just make soup at his place. After she arrived at the convenience store, she looked for microwave goodies that would make them both full as she swiftly paced towards the cashier while impatiently tapping her fingers into the counter. The cashier noticed that she was in a hurry as she immediately swiped all of her goods and asked for payment. “Keep the change,” Zarina coldly stated after she gave the money, she swiftly ran away from there to go back towards her apartment. She’s worrying too much about Luther’s state, all she thinks about is how he is doing every passing minute. “Luther? I’m back and I have our lunch with me,” She immediately raised her voice and securely locked the doors after she arrived, she checked the bathroom mirror and panicked when she didn’t see Luther over there. “Luther?! Where are you?” She almost screamed, so Luther grunted on the other side before rubbing his heated face. He slowly floated towards the mirror to look at Zarina, “W-Why are you shouting? It’s making my ears numb,” He pouted. “Good you’re still here, can you teleport me there? No one would take care of you,” Zarina didn’t mind his question as she requested, so Luther just gazed at her intently. “Y-You’re still recovering Zarina, you don’t have to come here, I can handle myself,” Luther suggested in a low, stern voice, but she just shook her head. “Please, you have to grant this wish of mine you promised,” She firmly said while gazing at Luther’s eyes. “B-But–” “I want to return the favor and you promised me,” She cut him off while clenching her fists, so Luther just sighed before summoning his wand. “F-Fine, be sure to make me some soup after this,” He mumbled as he felt the remaining strength of his body was slipping away from him.
