"Good night, thank you for coming," I called out to James and Amanda as they left. James waved back but didn't turn to look at me. I shut the door carefully behind them and set the locks and alarms. I stood there for a moment just regaining my composure. I wanted to run into Sara's arms but I felt so hesitant. I wanted to believe her when she said nothing happened but I felt weak and doubtful.
Slowly, I moved back into the house. I walked into the living room and saw Sara sitting on the couch. She looked like she was trying to make herself as small as possible. Her legs were crossed and pulled up to her chest. She leaned her chin on her knees. She wouldn't look at me as I walked in. I carefully moved to the opposite couch and sat across from her.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered,
