I paced back and forth in front of the front door as I waited for Sara to walk in. She had called from the car to let me know that she was coming home instead of going to Lauren's house. I was relieved to know that she was safe and sound, but there had been a note in her voice that left me feeling concerned for some reason.
My head shot up as I heard the familiar purr of the engine and saw Sara parking the car. I only had to wait a few minutes before I heard the opening and closing of car doors. The door burst open and King ran in, jumping around my legs excitedly. I crouched down and pet the small dog, my eyes locked on the doorway where Sara was standing. She offered me a strained smile as she stepped into the house and closed the door behind her.
