Chapter 8: Date (3)

Neither of them cared about being polite or liked by the other person anymore, thus they acted like themselves for what seemed to be the first time since they’d gotten there…
“Hahaha! Did that really happen?” Elizabeth asked as she laughed out loud, to the point where some people on the neighboring table began muttering amongst themselves.
“No joke, I felt like I was going to drown in the shallow… My friends were awful back then…” Gabriel continued in a deadpan voice for further comedic effect.
“Elizabeth your voice is a bit loud… Laughing like that isn’t ladylike.” Lois said as he put his hand on top of the woman’s hand that was resting on the table.
“Huh? Since when did laugher have gender?” Elizabeth asked as she pulled her hand from underneath the man’s… She brushed it on the side of the suit jacket she wore, she was yet to take it off.
“You’ve definitely had too much to drink.” Lois said as he tried to take the woman’s glass away but the other man stopped him.
“This is her second glass of wine, she didn’t drink much but if I were your date I would have finished the bottle already.” Gabriel remarked with a polite smile on his face. “She’s actually having fun at the moment, not thanks to you that is…”
“Handyman… you’re rather rude for someone in your position…” Lois said as he turned his attention to the other man. “You could learn some manners.”
“Even the way you speak sounds snobbish…” Elizabeth remarked in a lower voice than the one she usually used.
“Huh? What did you say Elizabeth?” Lois turned his attention back to the woman he was sitting next to.
“I said you sound snobbish…” Elizabeth stood up from her seat. “Thanks for the date and all but it wasn’t fun. Not to mention the fact you couldn’t shut up for a split second. You were so engrossed with talking about yourself that I’m not sure if it’s called arrogance or narcissism anymore…”
“Ready to leave then?” Gabriel also stood up from his seat.
“Yeah.” Elizabeth nodded her head but before either of them could take a step away from the table the man that was still sitting down yelled at them.
“You’re kidding, right? Leaving like this?” Lois also stood up, his attitude no more pleasant than it previously was. “We’re not even at the desert yet, don’t be silly Elizabeth stay a bit longer…” He grabbed onto the woman’s hand.
“I’d rather not. And don’t worry about the desert, I asked the waiter to pack it for me… I’ll enjoy it at home.” Elizabeth said with a smile on her face, once again pulling her hand away from the man’s grasp. Both her and Gabriel headed to the door together, taking the delivery boxes the staff had prepared for them. “Oh, one more thing… Don’t worry about the bill Lois, I paid it for you. Wouldn’t want you wasting your insurance money on this.”
As if throwing the final jab at the man’s ego, Elizabeth exited the restaurant happily…

Back to the woman’s apartment, Gabriel was the one that had to drive them back home since the woman had drank. The road was peaceful, there weren’t many cars out so late at night and the moon in the sky seemed to finally be showing its light…
“Do you think I acted a bit childish back there?” Elizabeth asked, as if it took her a while to realize what she had done. “I don’t… usually act like that…”
“Well… I don’t think there was anything wrong with it, you just gave the guy a piece of your mind is all. Though I do think you shouldn’t have paid the bill instead of him. That ass should at least pay for wasting your time.” Gabriel said as he took another piece of the cake they were eating. It was one huge slice that both of them were sharing.
“Nah… it’s fine money isn’t the issue I just didn’t want to owe that guy anything so I paid it instead.” Elizabeth explained. “With guys like that they think you should date them just because they spent some money on you, they believe they’re entitled to it even…”
“I guess you’re right about that…” Gabriel remarked, he looked up at the woman that was eating ever so peacefully. “You have some cake on your cheek…”
“I do? Here?” Elizabeth pointed to one of her cheeks before wiping it. “Is it gone, still there?” She asked while looking at the man.
“The other one.” Gabriel held back the urge to laugh. ‘For a thirty year old woman she sure acts like a kid sometimes…’ He thought to himself as he watched the woman brush aside her other cheek.
“Hey… Are we going to the police tomorrow? For what happened with your ex…” Elizabeth asked with a hesitant voice as if she wasn’t quite sure how to approach the topic.
“No need to… Even if I file a report against her it’s not like anything will come out of it. She probably stole a total less than two or three thousand dollars, it’s not like the police will care for something like that. And there’s no way I can prove it was her either…” Gabriel explained as he put his fork down.
“So you’re just going to let it slide?” Elizabeth asked. She also put her fork down on the side, the half eaten cake stood there as if waiting to be finished off.
“Well… It’s not like I have it rough. I’m living here with you and working, I’ll make back the money she stole from me quickly as well so it’s not like I have anything to complain about.” Gabriel said while looking up at the woman that had a surprised look on her face…
