Chapter 15: Mismatch (1)

“How about dinner then?” Billy asked as he out the keys back in his pocket. ‘She’s quite difficult today...’ He thought to himself. ‘She really is in a relationship... but she’s hiding it rather well...’ What annoyed him was losing a toy he found so fun to play with, he didn’t like the idea of Elizabeth being happy with someone else either.
“Sorry but I have a date tonight, and I believe it’s going to be more enjoyable with him rather than with a stuck up asshole like you.” Elizabeth said as she leaned on the wall again. Of course she was referring to Gabriel rather than the other date she had planned for that night.
“The more you talk down on me, the more intriguing I find you.” Billy said with an irritated voice.
“Good for you.” Elizabeth said with a faint smile on her face as she heard the door unlocking next to her.
“Ah... I didn’t know you were still inside... should I come another time?” The cleaner asked as he looked at the two talking to one another.
“No, you came right on time.” Elizabeth said as she casually walked through the door. “I’ll make sure to put in a good word in for you and get your pay raised.” She said to the man that stood at the doorway confused as the other left.
“Thank you?” He replied as he turned to look at her. He had no idea what had just happened but the man that was still in the room didn’t seem as happy.
‘So she’s still playing hard to get... I thought we’d gotten over that phase...’ Billy thought to himself as he gritted his teeth and left the room in a silent rage...

After that small interaction Elizabeth had she was feeling much better while heading back to the cafe. ‘I have to get ready for tonight... I wonder if Gabriel has any nicer clothes... the suit he wore at the date was- Why... am I thinking about that anyways...’ She thought to herself as she heard the notification ring from her phone. It was a message...
She picked up her phone from her suit jacket and low and behold it was the man she was supposed to be meeting tonight. He was apparently busy...
‘Hm... then I guess there’s no point for her to come along either...’ Elizabeth considered as she headed back to her apartment. She texted her friend the date is off for that night...

Meanwhile Gabriel who was still working at the cafe couldn’t get the single thought out of his mind. ‘Why did I say something so stupid? Just why... I’ll be there if you need me... such a load of crap! Ahg! I can’t take it anymore!’ His mind was a mess but his exterior looked calm as he unloaded the truck.
“You’ve been working really hard today man... You should slow down and leave some work for the rest of us...” One of his co-workers said as he picked up a box from the truck as well.
Gabriel didn’t say anything as he looked at his watch after leaving the box he was carrying. Then headed at the direction of the backrooms...
“Where you going?” His co-worker asked him as he turned around.
“On break.” Gabriel said as he turned around one last time.
“To do what? We just ate.” The co-worker asked again, but then was met by a less than pleasant response from the other person.
“To breathe!” Gabriel yelled back as he closed the door behind him.
“Can’t he just breathe here? Is it dusty or something.” The man asked as he looked around, he felt like something definitely wasn’t right with the other person but he didn’t want to push the subject either.

‘Did I really need to be so hard headed...? Why is she so eager to find someone all of a sudden... well no... I guess she wanted that from the beginning but... ugh... I can’t even question her about it... cause it’s not like I have anything to offer her...’ Gabriel thought to himself as he leaned against the wall and looked up at the sky, it was a rather cloudy day and the sun was yet to be seen. It was cold but the man didn’t mind that, somehow it felt better being hit with the cold outside air for a bit... to cool himself down...
“Hm?” Gabriel looked down at his pocket, his phone was vibrating it was a call from someone. He picked it up and saw it was from Elizabeth, *(in his phone he has her number down as ‘Boss1’ and his other employer from the bar he works at is Boss2)
“Yes?” Gabriel picked up the phone, his voice was a bit nervous but it wasn’t far too obvious when he spoke to the woman.
“Hey... so both of them canceled on me today... I was wondering if you still wanted to go on that date, just the two of us?” Elizabeth said with a calm voice but she did sound a bit excited underneath it.
“Sure, it’s going to be much more fun that way anyways...” Gabriel said as he widened his eyes. ‘Did she just invite me on a date? No... wait she probably doesn’t want the restaurant reservation to go to waste or something...’
“Alright! Oh... by the way do you have other suits? Something a bit more official?” Elizabeth asked as she looked through her own closet for clothes to wear that night.
“Not really, I don’t go to fancy places but I could ask a friend to lend me one if you’d like?” Gabriel suggested as he began walking in small circles. ‘Are the clothes that important? Where are we going anyway...?’ He wondered to himself...
